In this episode we talk about Project Healing Waters and Garett's recent experience at a fishing fund raiser used to raise money for a great cause.  We also chat about opening day of trout season in the North East and some of Carlos's favorite fishing memories.  

The focus of this episode is on our physical and mental preparation prior to going on hunting trips out west.  The terrain and elevation is not the same on the East Coast as it is out West, but that doesn't mean we can't be fully prepared.  More importantly, having the right mindset and attitude will keep you going strong the entire hunt.   

We discuss the beginning steps in training a bird dog, starting with puppy selection and some tips on getting a few commands started early that have been successful for us in the past.  We also discuss some lessons learned with mistakes we've made in the past, how to adapt training techniques to your dog, and the importance of bird exposure and repetition. This is the first part of a series of podcasts dedicated to training bird dogs.  

We've all had our battles with target panic, but Garret really had it bad.  Here we talk about how he developed target panic over time and the way he was able to overcome it.  We cover everything from different release types to missing grouse with confidence!
