When things are going wrong, and the circumstances look bad, our natural inclination is to complain first, and praise later after everything works out. ... In this Scripture, David said, “I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.”

Continually means we give God praise before we even begin to see our prayers come into fruition, that’s called the trial of our faith, 

See, it’s in the process, in the waiting  when many get discouraged and give up, they start believing the negative thoughts, it’s never going to happen, it’s taking too long; now that seed of your prayer is lying dormant. 

You have to do your part and start watering the seed with praise. thanking God in advance. 

Don’t can’t wait until you receive the promise, begin to thank God that the answer is on the way.  

Maybe you’re struggling with your health, the medical report doesn’t look good, don’t talk about how you feel, say, “Father, thank you that I’m healthy, strong, with a long life ahead of me.”  

That’s not just being positive, that’s watering the seed of your prayers;  

If you are struggling in  your finances maybe, business is slow, all through the day, say “Father, thank you that whatever I touch prospers and succeeds, I’m coming out of debt, thank you that Your favor surrounds me like a shield.”  when you thank God in advance for the answer, it not only waters the seed, but that strengthens your own faith. 

Use the power of pre-praise to keep your prayers watered and flourishing.

We have all heart that trial comes to make us strong and whatever doesn’t kill us will bless us.  But in the midst of trials and storms, we don’t want to hear that we just want the trials to storm and the sun to shine.

James 1:12 Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.

And if you are going through something right now you really didn’t want to be reminded of that scripture either.  However, There are two, seemingly distinct evidences of salvation, put together in this verse. 

First it says that after someone has stood the test of trials in this life and remained steadfast, then they will receive the crown of life. One evidence of eternal salvation is steadfast perseverance.

Second, it says that the crown of life is promised to those who love God. 

The crown of lie is not given to those who receive the gospel with joy and just are able to endure through the good times and as soon as tribulation and persecution arise they immediately run for the hills or begin to lose faith.

God never promised us that following him would be easy, He promised that He would never leave us that he will turn what was meant to kill around for our good.  So just know when the smoke clears and joy is restored, your testimony will be to and for the glory of God and your steadfastness will be rewarded as it is pleasing to God.

On yesterday, I talked to you about being true to yourself, and  setting new standards for yourself.  I challenged you to write down uncomfortable truths about yourself and devise a plan to address these truths. 

How are you doing with the challenge? If you haven’t taken the time to take on the challenge, I will tell you avoiding facing the truth about yourself is like riding a train and not knowing what stop to get off onto get you to where you want to go.  

One of the biggest obstacles we face is procrastination.  Proverbs 13:4 reads 

The soul of the sluggard, THE PROCRASTINATOR craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.  

We have NO problem establishing our desires, and our soul craves continuously for our ordained purpose to be fulfilled, the problem we tend to run into is taking our desires, our dreams and the desires of our soul and implementing the required action to push forward.

John 9:4-7 tells us that  We must work the works of him who sent us  and recognize that as long as we are in the world, we are meant to be the light of the world.  In the text Jesus  spit on the ground and made mud with the saliva. Then he anointed a man's eyes with the mud then told the  man to go wash in the pool of Siloam” and the man came back seeing.

We like Jesus was created in the image and likeness of God, we too can spit out what is in us, following the instructions of Jesus and obtain the vision we need to pursue, to conquer, to be influential in the Kingdom of God.

I would like to jump start your day reading to you 2 Corinthians 13:5-8 from the Message translation, in these verses Paul is talking to the member of the church congregation as he says: Test yourselves to make sure you are solid in the faith. Don’t drift along taking everything for granted. Give yourselves regular checkups. You need first hand evidence, not mere hearsay, that Jesus Christ is in you. Test it out. If you fail the test, do something about it. I hope the test won’t show that we have failed. But if it comes to that, we’d rather the test showed our failure than yours. We’re rooting for the truth to win out in you. We couldn’t possibly do otherwise.We don’t just put up with our limitations; we celebrate them, and then go on to celebrate every strength, every triumph of the truth in you. We pray hard that it will all come together in your lives.

I want to stress to you this morning that “to thine own self be true”, in truth there is freedom.  In truth there are no limitations and with truth anything is possible, because God is truth.  We sometimes buy into making excuses,  procrastination, fear and a spirit of unwarranted contentment.  And the only way to steer away from these stumbling blocks is to be extremely honest with ourselves concerning how we are in our own way of our pursuing purpose, how we are our biggest obstacle.

Let’s stop blaming others, let’s no longer use past experiences to justify our idleness, let’s annihilate the spirit of procrastination, and send fear back to the pits of hell from whence it came.  Truth is... the key to accomplishing all that you were purposed for, all that you have dreamed of.

I challenge each of you to begin to write down some uncomfortable truths about yourself that you need to address, then create a plan to deal with them, set  new standards for yourself and continually pray for God to show you, you and show you Him in you.

I know some of you under the sound of my voice have been praying and waiting on a miracle from God.  I want to tell you this morning that you are the miracle you have been waiting for.  Think of all God has brought you through thus far, think of the times things turned around in your favor, think about the unexplained covering and protection, that many laying in their grave weren't privy to.   

God woke you up this morning, as our ancestors used to say “clothed in your right mind, with blood still running warm through your veins.  This day you represent a miracle, so what are you going to do with your miracle to get you to what God has promised.

Man’s extremity is God’s opportunity.  You have to be willing to go to the extreme, pay the dues, sacrifice some sweat, discipline your mind, seek  and implement godly instruction with diligence.  In James chapter 2 it asks a question: What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? The answer is  faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

You are waiting on a miracle when the truth is you are your miracle now invest your faith in God and get to work.  Scripture tells us; a man is justified by works, and not by faith only. For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is also dead.

Don’t kill your purpose, your dreams sitting idle waiting on a miracle.  God gave you dominion, meaning in you is the ability to strategize, the ability to thrive, the ability to discipline yourself for success.

Shut down your prayer for a miracle and exalt prayers asking God for instructions and direction, then do what you know is right to do and watch God unravel and elevate you as a testimony He can use to glorify His Kingdom.

You know in the military before you are released to operate collectively in the overall mission each soldier has to go through basic training aka bootcamp and today starts your bootcamp.

But because we don’t serve an ordinary commander in chief, and because we are not working for a democracy but a Kingdom our bootcamp is a little different than most.

We are entering into Shock Troop Training.  You see “Shock Troopers” are an exclusive military group used on special detailed missions.

The term “shock troop” is used to describe a unit with a special assignment composed of assault troops which are typically organized for mobility with the intention of penetrating and attacking the enemy through its “vulnerable areas”.  

 Shock troopers specialize in the use of various “non-standard weapons and equipment”. They are also distinguishable by their “extra heavy plate of armor.”  In the realm of ministry those who are assigned to the “shock troop” unit, are those who have been declared ministerial leaders, teachers, deacons, evangelists and confessed believers.  

 Please note, in order for the ministerial mission to be a success the attitude of those committed to the mission must first be intact.  Yes, what your mother told you was correct.  Attitude is everything.

 If we dissect the word attitude you will find that “at” represents presence, participation, attendance and the suffix “tude” means,  “state : condition : quality”.  Hence attitude is indicative of one’s present state of mind.  We all know that one’s  body language will tell us one’s level of participation, and their quality of intentions, which all makes up what we know as attitude. 

 Today as part of our first day of shock troop training we are going to address the “beatitudes” and “similitudes” detailed in the bible.  In short the bible give us the example of 8 beatitudes which are the attitudes that bring forth blessings and 2 similitudes, which refers to one’s visible likeness to something, and biblically speaking it refers to the visible likeness to God that we should possess.

 Now this sermon is entitled setting aside trash can lids, and I know you may be wondering where did that come from.   See many of us want to profess that we are believers of the word of God and on the surface we are real good at making what we do look presentable, but our intention, our sincere attitude is not at all pleasing to God, as we are subtly arrogant, judgemental, proud, and haughty, equivalent in some instance of presenting a prime rib dinner to other on the lids of trash cans.

 Yes on the service prime rib dinner is delightful, considered the creme de la creme, but our mindsets, our attitudes and our reasons, are on the level of trash can lids which are plagues with the residue from what is foul, stick, and of no real use.

Matthew 8:1-4

When Jesus had come down from the mountain, a great multitude of people  followed Him. And, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.”

Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

And Jesus said to him, “See that you tell no one; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”

Notice the man suffering with what was a horrible disease that kept him in isolation, ridiculed and laughed at, when he asked Jesus to heal him he was adamant in saying if you are willing, submitting to the will of God over his personal issues.

When Jesus healed him, he instructed him to be silent about his healing. Although the man approached Jesus in the right way submitted to his will, Mark 1:45 tells us he was not obedient to Jesus’ request to remain silent about his healing.  

And this healed man who chose not to be obedient as he went out and began to proclaim his healing, Jesus could no longer openly enter the city without being mobbed, so Jesus ministry of teaching halted in that area.  Jesus then kept to a relatively uninhabited region to allow the excitement over the man’s healing to calm down.

The moral of the story is that our healing is a small part of God’s overall plan and we should always be more conscientious and committed to  His overall plan than our own healing as magnificent as it can be. 

Jesus’ ultimate goal was teaching the people, but they became sidetracked and were only now interested in the miracles, not the teachings of Jesus. Testimonies are great, the sharing of God’s manifestations and miracles in our lives should be used in the context of teaching, not boastfully.  Don’t allow what God has done for you to be a distraction to those who need the Word and the teachings more than a miracle.

We crave wealth to buy not only what we need, but what we want, to provide us with a sense of security, or in order to obtain and maintain a lifestyle that we have as successful.  

We look around and ask the question why does it seem like those who do all kinds of evil seem to be blessed?  

First and foremost, don’t allow things to determine the blessings of God.  Because the very ones that seem to be blessed are not blessed but bound.  You see Satan has all the stuff our hearts can ever desire and if you serve him, he doesn’t mind giving it to you.

However scriptures ask us a question, what does it profit a man to gain this whole world and lose his soul? True wealth evident  in this life but in the after life, in eternity. So how do we attain this kind of wealth?  So glad you asked. 

Stop worrying, stressing, and going after gaining material things, even a spouse. Get your heart, mind and soul  in proper alignment with God.  Get to know the mind of God, stop depending on second hand information about The Almighty.  

You would never settle for a relationship with another based solely on communicating through someone else.  You like most would even consider it a real relationship if you did not have that one on one interaction, and intimate talks.  So don’t settle for anything less than that in your relationship with God.  Don’t depend on every biblical word and revelation to come through the mouth of pastors, apostles, or church leaders.  Their word should only be confirmation.

Once you begin to read and study the word of God it will make it so much easier to obtain the key to wealth which is extended to those who follow the mandate of God that says seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, then all these things will be added.

I get it, it’s hard to trust what you can’t see.  But that is exactly what faith is,is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.  Some of you may be thinking the Pastor, tell me exactly what it means to seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. Plain and simple it means to go after only what exalt His Kingdom that brings people to the understanding and the truth of His word, and to humble ourselves to His righteousness, his commandment, his mandates, not our own interpretation.  

If He said it do it, if He said don’t do it don’t do it. The strength to stand firm on   the Kingdom of God and His righteousness comes from getting to know the mind and plan of God, which can only be obtained through the reading and studying of His word.

God is not a deadbeat if you seek him first in all you do, he will reward you abundantly and openly for your work

Matthew 9:10-12 Now it happened, as Jesus sat at the table in the house, that behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Him and His disciples. 11 And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to His disciples, “Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

12 When Jesus heard that, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.

What Jesus was saying to them is that those who are representatives of the Kingdom, should welcome  the opportunity to witness to the lost, to minister to unbelievers, to conversate with those who need to hear the Word of God.

In order to walk in the dominion that God has given us, we have to shut down our religious mindset and engage with a Kingdom mindset. 

As children of the King, with Kingdom assignments, we must be willing to colonize the earth to align with the Kingdom of Heaven, that is the responsibility of believers, that is the great commission.  A Kingdom’s glory is territory, and to operate in dominion, having all territories submitted to the Kingdom of God will require those who are willing to teach uncolonized folk the culture of the Kingdom Heaven.

And we should welcome the opportunity to share the word of God and the message of the Kingdom every chance we get. Are you prepared to serve up the Word of God?  who's your dinner guest?
