This afternoon I want to talk to you about someone in the Bible whose name is well known, but is rarely the subject of a sermon.  I am talking about Mary Magdalene.  

And I know that by just the mention of her name some of you have already put to work in your mind some preconceived notions, but I am going to ask for you to set all of them and stay with me, I just want to talk to you briefly about how Satan can have you so tangled up, that he has you counted out, but God. 

First let me say that all throughout the Bible there were many Marys.  But this Mary was distinguished from the others as her surname is always mentioned simultaneously with her first name.  Her surname was likely connected to the town of Magdala which is where she was from.  This town was a wealthy community that thrived in the textile industry.  www.BibleDeliverance.org

A kiss can be oh so innocent, denoting something as guiltless  as a friendship or  family kinship .  It can also be exchanged in a fiery moment between lovers that could escalate into something more intense.  When we think of a kiss we think likely about these two kinds of kisses.  But there is also a kiss of death.  In the world of a crime family, this kiss means that the person who is marked for death.  Funny how the world uses biblical reference to uphold their own traditions, because Jesus was betrayed by a kiss.

The Bible tells as Judas approached Jesus to kiss him, Jesus asked him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?” for Jesus knew that who Judas kissed was a message to those who had been looking to kill him that he was in fact exactly who they were looking for.  www.BibleDeliverance.org

I want to start this morning off reading to you from  Isaiah 43:19 which reads Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? If you don’t feel and see that God is doing something new, you have been living on another planet for all of 2020.  God asks us a simple question, do you not see that I am doing something new?  

If you do see that God is doing something new, but don’t quite understand what it is he is doing, let me continue reading the verse to you as God continues by saying,  I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. 

If you are like me you know the wilderness all to well, you know that place where you can see the forest for the trees, you know where you need to go, and even how long it should take to get there, but you can’t see through the shrubberies of the wilderness to make a clear path, well God is saying don’t worry about it I am about to make a way for you, I am about to create the ideal path, I am about to move some shrubbery, some stumbling blocks out of your way.  www.BibleDeliverance.org

Dessert before dinner, if you were raised in my mother’s house, that was not even a permissible option.  But as we grow and move outside of the confines of our parents' restrictions, we tend to explore and try some of the nonpermissible things, like dessert before dinner.

The concept is to have dessert before dinner so you don’t miss out on satisfying that sweet tooth because you were too full from dinner to enjoy it.  We have created a culture whereby people are OK with enjoying what they have not earned, have not worked for, nor do they truly understand.

If it feels good, makes us look good, or gets us noticed, then let’s do it in the mindset of our culture. Proverbs 12:24: The hand of the diligent will rule.  The principle that we seem to miss, thanks to the temptations of Satan, is that you can gather stuff, even become envied by others, and still not rule, still not walk in the fullness of God's purpose.  To go after stuff regardless of its manmade value is a cheap ticket to nowhere. www.BibleDeliverance.org

Yes we are approaching winter and the temperatures are changing and some days are colder than others.  But beyond the cold weather, our world seems to be getting much colder, as our compassion for one another is fading, a reverence of God has dwindled and even common courtesy seems to be disappearing at alarming rates.

Matthew 24: 12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. www.BibleDeliverance.org
