Blessed with multiple talents, Sonny is equally at home as a TV host, actor, radio personality, writer, commercial spokesman, motivational speaker, or voice artist. He has served as TV and radio spokesperson for companies like Disney, Pepsi, McDonald’s, Sears and Sprint.

As a motivational speaker and master of ceremonies, he has presented at such prestigious events as the White House Hispanic Heritage Awards (7 times); the National “Just Say No To Drugs” Rally at the Washington Monument; and the USO 50th Anniversary Gala at the Ambassador’s Palace in Paris, France with guest of honor, the late Princess Grace of Monaco.

As host of the award-winning children’s television series, “You and Me, Kid!” on the Disney Channel, Sonny enjoyed one of the longest runs in the network’s history.

He was named Inc. Magazine’s “Socially Responsible Entrepreneur of the Year,” awarded the “Marketing Philanthropist Lifetime Achievement Award” by the Sales and Marketing Executives of San Antonio and named Alignable’s 2017 San Antonio Small Business Person of the Year.

As the Los Angeles commissioner of the United Nation’s Year of the Child, Melendrez was invited to Washington, D.C. to present his idea for a national children’s holiday. Sunshine Day was officially proclaimed and celebrated in all 50 states on August 19th of that year, encouraging parents to spend the day, with their children, giving them what they most want and need: time and love.

The City of San Antonio named the Sonny Melendrez Community Center located on the city’s West Side in his honor as way to say “thank you” for his community involvement, benefiting disadvantaged youth and families, including over 1400 motivational school presentations.

President Ronald Reagan commended Sonny for his efforts in the war on drugs and he received the National Director’s Community Leadership Award by FBI Director, William S. Sessions. The Department of Justice lauded him with the prestigious “Modern Hero Award” for his efforts to inspire the nation’s youth to “Soar In School”. In recognition of raising tens of thousands of dollars for youth scholarships, he was named “El Rey Feo” (The People’s King) and presided over San Antonio’s annual weeklong Fiesta celebration.

Programs that benefit children have always been a priority for Sonny Melendrez. One of the projects of which he is most proud is The Children of the World Project, giving talented youth and countless volunteers a way to give back by recording the children’s version of “We Are The World,” which he created in Los Angeles in 1985. Over 1500 children participated in the recording and video and proceeds from record sales benefited USA for Africa. Sonny received a Grammy nomination for “Best Children’s Recording.”

As a public servant, he’s played a major role in countless city, county and state projects in the past 25 years, including his service as Bexar County Chairman of the 2010 Census.

A man of a thousand voices, he provided the voices of several characters in Hanna-Barbera’s “Jetsons” cartoon series; created many of the sounds heard in the Gremlins Movie; played opposite Walter Mathau as the voice of Bob Cratchet in the animated TV classic, “The Stingiest Man in Town“; and was even the voice of the infamous Fred the Cockatoo in the 70”s NBC TV series, Baretta. He was chosen from a field of over 140,000 as the new voice of the Parkay Margarine Talking Tub, and recently, after a nationwide search, Sonny was picked as voice of Jerry Seinfeld for a campaign promoting the Bee Movie Game for ActiVision.

Conferences, companies, colleges, universities, school districts, and groups of all types have been inspired by Sonny’s captivating motivational presentations. His topics are designed to fire up companies, teachers, students, and parents to get involved and make a difference in the world around them, while delivering above-and-beyond service.

In his popular book, “The Art of Living with Enthusiasm!”, Sonny presents the benefits to be found in positive living through personal and powerful stories of encouragement, comfort, and joy.

Josh Hurt comes back on I Am Refocused Radio discussing the following topic "You were born an original not a copy" As a tribute to Kobe Bryant we talk about the importance of going all in for your dream. Josh speaks on his experience having the right mindset and faith in God as he pursues his goals and purpose in life.

Josh Hurt is a native of San Antonio, Texas, and one of its most sought after and recognized singers. He brings an energetic and refreshing sound to music that appeal to the young as well as the seasoned saints. He sang his first solo in church at the age of 7 and since then his love for music has grown and now it is very evident that it’ll always be a part of his life.

Undeniably called to musically bridge denominational gaps, Josh carries a burden for uniting believers to worship the Father in spirit and in truth. It is further his desire to inspire and encourage other young men to cast aside the tough guy stereotype and relentlessly pursue the presence of God in worship. Josh also mentors worship leaders of various ages, frequently being called upon to help them bridge the gap in their churches between Traditional Gospel and Christian Contemporary Music sounds. He is often requested to lead Praise and Worship workshops as well as conduct choir workshops.

In addition to working on his own long-awaited recording. Josh provides vocal coaching services, has appeared as a featured lead vocalist on projects, including most recently the live recording of Anthony McBeth and the United Praise Chorale (Houston, Texas), and has recorded as well as arranged background vocals for several other projects.

Make no mistake about it: Josh Hurt is on the move, and he is not looking back. Since the very first time he heard Kim Burrell’s voice at the COGIC AIM Convention, it was clear to Josh that he wanted to be a singer and inspire others as he was likewise inspired that evening. Josh was later blessed to receive invitations to share his gift as a background vocalist for artists such as Josh Groban and Leandria Johnson. Additional opportunities soon came for him to share the stage with numerous gospel and inspirational artists, such as Fred Hammond, Israel Houghton, Jessica Reedy, Micah Stampley and Youthful Praise.

After walking away from what could have been a tragic automobile accident in early 2015. Josh credits God’s hand of deliverance for giving him a new lease on life. With even greater determination than before, he is taking full advantage of each day God gives him to do the will of the Father.

Marvin Hurst is an anchor / multimedia journalist for KENS 5 in San Antonio, Texas.

He never thought his childhood fascination with television would evolve into a career in broadcast journalism. It did!

He was bitten by the news bug while earning a bachelor of arts degree in mass communications at Grambling State University, focusing on broadcasting, newspaper and public relations.

Marvin started his television career at KALB-TV in Alexandria, La., as the crime and investigative reporter. He took on that same role at his next station, WBRZ in Baton Rouge, where he was the lead reporter in the hunt for the South Louisiana serial killer.

Marvin then served as press director for the new Office of Youth Services under Louisiana's first female governor, the honorable Kathleen Babineaux Blanco.

While in Louisiana, Marvin won several Associated Press awards for general news reporting, investigative reporting and in-depth reporting.

Marvin joined the KENS 5 Eyewitness News team as a reporter for "Eyewitness News This Morning" in December 2004. Since then, Marvin has garnered numerous nominations and awards from the Texas Associated Press and the Lone Star Emmys.

He is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists, where he is the former co-chair of the council of presidents and a member of the NABJ constitutional committee. Marvin served five terms as president of the San Antonio Association of Black Journalists.

In addition, Marvin held the position of vice president of the Grambling University National Alumni Association - San Antonio Chapter.

Marvin served on the executive board for the 100 Black Men of San Antonio. He also was named as an honoree for media in the inaugural edition of Who's Who in Black San Antonio.

Marvin is a native of Milwaukee who mentors journalism students, does many appearances to help a great cause and finds time to do church media.

He believes in building communities through mentoring, which is why he sought out the award winning KENS 5 workplace mentoring program.

Flat River Band - Biography
One thing is apparent when you listen to The Flat River Band. The trio, comprised of siblings Andy,
Dennijo, and Chad Sitze, love to have fun when they are playing music – and it shows.
This bond has carried the success of the band throughout the years as the trio has opened for the
Dixie Chicks’ Natalie Maines, Alison Krauss, Ricky Skaggs, Rhonda Vincent, TG Sheppard, among
others.
The brothers have also charted #1 hits on the bluegrass gospel charts as well as have had their
songs featured in the 2018 movie “The Least of These — A Christmas Story” featuring Duane Allen
(Oak Ridge Boys), Deborah Allen, and Tayla Lynn (Loretta Lynn’s granddaughter).
That unabandoned joy and love of music comes to the forefront when you listen to the band’s new
album, Every Dog Has Its Day. The trio’s fifth effort is one that the band is very excited to bring to
the attention of its fans.
Aaron McDaris who plays with Rhonda Vincent and the Rage was brought into play banjo, and
much to the brothers’ surprise, he brought with him his 1934 Gibson RB-3 that was owned by
Sonny Osborne who recorded the University of Tennessee’s theme song “Rocky Top” with that
same banjo in 1967. One of Dennijo’s guitar superheroes, Johnny Hiland who is legally blind was
brought in to play the electric guitar, while Stuart Duncan played fiddle.
Those all-star names only add to the first—rate musicianship that fans have expected from The Flat
River Band over the years. Again, Chad chalks that up to the undeniable bond between the three
brothers that grew through a dozen years performing at Branson’s Silver Dollar City and five at
Dollywood in Pigeon Forge.
And just as the band features some special guests on instrumentation, they also include some of
Nashville’s top tunesmiths on the disc, such as “In Another World,” a co-write with the highly
respected John Scott Sherrill (“Some Fools Never Learn,” “The Church On Cumberland Road.”).
Telling stories – whether it be that of John or their own – is what the Flat River Band is all about.
