  • John Dorsch - Album Elevation
John Dorsch from Rideau Ferry is a talented singer, songwriter, guitarist, and recording artist with a lifelong passion for music. As a teenager, he experimented with using pennies to slow down his vinyl records, seeking to capture "that sound" on his Les Paul guitar. This led him to discover influential bands such as Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, Rush, and The Beatles. Over the course of 45 years, John honed his skills on both electric and acoustic guitar, as well as drums. His musical journey took an exciting turn when he discovered Fingerstyle guitar, inspired by mentor Tommy Emmanuel and influenced by the likes of Jerry Reed and Merle Travis. The challenge of creating a different sound by manipulating the strings exhilarated John, and he delved into acoustic duets, stepping into the role of lead singer.John's deep connection to his local music scene led him to shift gears from playing lead electric guitar in bands to focusing on acoustic fingerstyle and electric guitar. His wife, Dani, now accompanies him in live performances, adding African Djembe drum beats and percussion while blending harmonious vocals. Together, their motto is "Let's put smiles on faces!"Based in Ottawa Valley, Ontario, Canada, John has spent most of his life in the region and considers the Rideau Lakes area his home. The serene summer nights and the haunting call of loons, combined with his winter travels around the world, serve as great inspirations for his songwriting. Writing, recording, and promoting his original music are his primary focuses.Exciting news awaits as John proudly announces the upcoming release of his first full-length album, "Elevation," on July 14th, 2023. This 15-song collection features a blend of fingerstyle instrumentals, pop, and rock songs with captivating melodies. The entire album was recorded in John's personal studio, with mastering done at Little Bullorn Studios in Ottawa.John's musical style is unique, blending Fingerstyle, Jazz, Pop, and Rock influences to create a sound that is rarely duplicated. His collection of instruments includes an autographed Tommy Emmanuel 2018 CGP Maton "808" acoustic, a 2018 Gibson J45 acoustic, a Manouche "Django" Gypsy Jazz acoustic, a Gold Tone "Paul Beard" Resonator acoustic, a 2013 Custom Fender Telecaster, and a 1989 Gibson Les Paul Custom electric guitar.Currently, John performs live as part of an acoustic duo, where he sings and plays acoustic guitars, while Dani provides harmonies and accompanies him on the djembe drum and other percussion instruments. They have found success performing at various indoor and outdoor venues, including restaurants, patios, and pubs. Their repertoire encompasses popular rock and pop hits, fingerstyle arrangements, and original compositions.

  • New Update: Jerome Surles - Member of the National Foundation for Transplants
    https://acommunitythrives.mightycause.com/story/Kidney4jerome

    https://www.gofundme.com/f/kidney4jerome

Jerome Surles is awaiting a new lease on life. Ten years ago, while undergoing a routine health checkup, he was diagnosed with stage 2 renal disease. This diagnosis came as a surprise to Jerome as he doesn’t have a family history of this condition. Unfortunately, his health has continued to decline. Now doctors say a kidney transplant is necessary. While awaiting his transplant, he endures regular dialysis treatments, which leave him exhausted and take a toll on his quality of life.

During such a challenging time, Jerome is thankful to be surrounded by a strong support system. His beautiful wife, Kiya, their four children, and two grandchildren, have been by his side every step of the way providing much needed love and encouragement. While it has been very hard for Jerome and Kiya, these circumstances have also brought them closer together, strengthened their trust in each other, and given them perspective on what matters most in life. Jerome looks forward to the kidney transplant that will allow him to live his life fully again. More than anything, he would like to return to coaching, working on his cars, and spending time with his children and grandchildren, but right now, he needs your help.

Unfortunately, Jerome’s hope for a new life comes at a very high price.

The average kidney transplant costs approximately $442,000. And that is only the beginning. Even with health insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, he faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.

Jerome must travel to reach his transplant center for evaluations and doctors’ appointments. When he receives his transplant, Jerome and his caregiver will need to stay near the hospital during recovery, adding to the financial strain.

You can help by making a tax-deductible donation in any amount. This will go a long way to aid in supporting Jerome and his family during this time.

If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to:

  • Robin Bartlett - Vietnam Combat: Firefights and Writing History
Robin Bartlett takes you back 50 years to a ‘boots on the ground’ account of his extraordinary combat experiences as a 22-year-old 1st Lieutenant with the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile). As a combat infantry platoon leader, he deployed a 28-man platoon on search and destroy missions and helicopter assaults into hot landing zones at the height of the Vietnam War.
Bartlett’s vivid combat events are brought to light in a fast-moving presentation expressing the horror, fear, anguish, and sometimes illogical humor of that war. He brings to light the long-term impact, both positive and negative, on his home life and business career…. with insights about leadership, courage, PTSD, and life lessons learned. These are stories that will stay with your listeners long past the end of his presentation.

    Bio:
Bio: Promoted to 1st Lieutenant after only one year, Robin Bartlett at 22 assumed the leadership of the 1st Platoon, A Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile). Over the next seven months, he led a platoon on more than sixty helicopter combat assaults and search and destroy missions.

Bartlett grew up in a military family. His grandfather, father and brother all attended West Point, but after thirteen elementary and middle schools and four high schools, he decided he’d had enough of the military. But in college, as the Vietnam War escalated and eighteen-year-olds were drafted daily, Bartlett joined his college’s ROTC program and fell back into a familiar routine. Upon graduation as a Distinguished Military Graduate he volunteered for Infantry, Airborne, and Ranger training, and assignment to the 82d Airborne Division. He got everything he asked for…and more.
Bartlett holds a BA degree in Comparative Literature from Claremont McKenna College in California and a master’s degree in Media from Pace University in NYC. He has written numerous business publications and a professional book published by Dun & Bradstreet.

He is the President of the NY/NJ Chapter of the 1st Cavalry Division Association, and a proud member of the 82d Airborne Division Association. He and his wife live in Norwood, New Jersey, and have three sons, none of whom have pursued military careers.
