Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. When he came to Beersheba in Judah, he left his servant there, while he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness. He came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, Lord,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.”  Then he lay down under the bush and fell asleep.

That day when the Israelites received understanding, that day when the Israelites felt blessed, that day when the Israelites experienced godly sorrow, that day they knew that their God was good and pleased with them. Everything that had been prepared in advance had come to that moment and they celebrated it. ‘That was the day that the Lord had made and we will rejoice and be glad in it.’ 

God will send us people to rebuild walls and restore His temple.  They are like Nehemiah.  They have faith and confidence in God who has sent them and do not doubt His great power.  Their message is always encouraging and brings comfort.  They have authority and power because the spirit of God is always with them. They build you up so that you can arm yourself again and continue serving God.  They bring understanding through the word of God. They have the spirit of truth which brings great joy when understanding comes.  They are humble servants of God, and they delight in Jesus.

Zipporah’s task to ceremoniously clean Moses’ feet with the foreskin and blood of her firstborn son Gershom was according to God’s commands to consecrate the Levite priests and the covenant made with Abraham. Circumcision was the covenant sign between God and Abraham that they belonged to His family lineage."

This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep: Every male among you shall be circumcised. You are to undergo circumcision, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and you. My covenant in your flesh is to be an everlasting covenant. Any uncircumcised male, who has not been circumcised in the flesh, will be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant.” (Gen 17:9)

Zipporah was given the command to intercede between God and Moses. Just like Jesus intercedes for His disciples and wash their feet and then commands them to wash the feet of others. “Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.”

Faith is a small word, but the power of it can move mountains.

The dictionary defines faith as “complete trust” or “a firm belief in something/someone of which there is no proof.”

The Bible defines faith as; “faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.  This is what the ancients were commended for. By faith, we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.” (Hebrews 11:1 NIV)

Faith in God means you have no doubts about His power. You come to love Him and fear Him more than anything in this world.  When tested, in obedience and faith, we would sacrifice our family, our career, our friends, our belongings, our life…

What did Sarah say when her husband Abraham told her he would sacrifice their only child?  What did Sarah say when her husband Abraham told her to pretend she was his sister instead of his wife so that she ended up as Pharoah’s wife and again taken by king Abimelek? The Holy women of the past submitted themselves to their own husbands, like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her lord. You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear.

Some days I look at the world, the stories in the media, the conversations of friends and I worry, I despair when I listen to what the World has to say. We live in this world, and it is easy to be dragged in or even affected by the language of mere mortals when we take our focus off the language of God.

The apostle Paul’s story is one of intrigue. His testimony and wisdom teach us so many truths that bring clarity to the Old Testament laws, salvation and how to live righteously. However, Paul’s entrance into becoming an apostle of Christ was not a good one to begin with, but it is an important one because it teaches us that religion, with all good intentions, can have very serious consequences and even lead to our death and the death of others.

Many people claim that they have experienced ghostly activities, encountered ghosts or have communicated with “ghosts” or spirits of the dead. What does the Bible tell us,  is this possible?

A ghost as a noun is defined as a “disembodied soul” of a dead person believed to be alive. Many of the gentile believers and other nations used to regularly consult the spirits of the dead for information, or to console themselves or to find out about “spiritual” things. Many Israelites also believed that the consulting of spirits was acceptable and started following the practices of other nations in the Old testament.

Heavenly treasure is much more precious than any earthly treasure. They are not in the things that are seen in this world that can all be destroyed, but they are the things that can never be destroyed. They are the things of the spirit and not of the world. 

The word of God is our treasure. When we fill our minds with the living word of God, the truth shall not only set us free, but it shall also fill our hearts with many treasures (truths) worth more than gold and silver. We are blessed with knowledge, understanding and wisdom and our hearts are conformed to the image of God. Hearts which are kind, loving, honest, and good, to name a few.
