Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love. Love is so many things, its expressions and feelings, actions and words but without doubt, it is understood and accepted by the recipient. I think everyone knows what love is, without having to really explain it, it is understood from the heart. You don’t need faith to know what love is but do you need faith to know what God’s love is?

Rehab’s story intrigued me because although we don’t know much about her life, throughout the Old and New Testament she is mentioned and has made it into the genealogy of Jesus Christ and is purposely mentioned there, by name, and one of only five women mentioned specifically in the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah.

Rehab’s story demonstrates her faith, reverent fear of the Lord, a desire to be saved and a promise/pledge in the form of a red scarlet cord/rope.  It turns out Rehab got much more than she asked for.

True love is love without expecting anything back, it’s selfless, without reciprocation, love that withstands persecution, love that gives and gives, endlessly. God’s love is for everyone! Not a select few, Everyone! God is love and He gives it freely, even to those who do not want it, see it, appreciate it or understand it. His love is unconditional.

This week I find myself in the shoes of Martha.  Feeling frustrated, tired, discouraged and entitled. When it feels like we do more than our fair share whilst others benefit from our works/kindness and then barely notice the effort we are putting in? What can we learn from Martha?

King Saul, was the first anointed king of Israel. He was from a humble background, the least and smallest tribe of Israel. A Benjamite, but God chose him to lead his people.

Saul was a king that did not follow God’s commands. He was a terrible ruler. The Bible says that the word of the Lord came to Samuel saying, “I regret that I have made Saul king because he has turned away from me and has not carried out my instructions.” Saul went against every command and all the covenants of the law of Moses.

How can we learn from Saul? Can we identify with him?

Job was a man that had everything in life it seems. He was a healthy man with a loving family and a good wife. He was blessed with lots of children (seven sons and three daughters). He was considered very wealthy in the land (owning several thousand live-stock and a large number of servants. Job and was a respected man in the village. If you know the story of Job, you know that Job loses everything soon after this. He loses his wealth, his servants, his whole family, he loses all his children in death and he loses his relationship with his wife, his health deteriorates drastically and people start avoiding him, his friends dwindled and everything that he had that was secure and good, was taken away from him, all except his life, and at one point he suffered so much that he wished for death to take him.

Why would God allow a man that was "blameless" and faithful to suffer in this way?

For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

People say: We need money to survive. We have to work to earn money. We work so that we can be rewarded with money. With more money, we can help more people. We need money to advance the gospel of Christ.

All of the above statements are lies, especially the last one. You don’t need money to do what you need for God, you just need God. God will provide you with everything you need to fulfil your purpose. You just need God. Money is never a reward. Money is a means.

For six days work is to be done, but the seventh day is a day of sabbath rest, holy to the LORD. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day is to be put to death.” Ex 32:15

Is the Sabbath still relevant? How should we celebrate it? How do we rest? Rest from what? To understand why the seventh day was proclaimed holy and why God commanded us to rest, we have to first understand what is meant by rest.

Peace is the thing that all humans want. It is one of those words that is thrown around, promised by world leaders, preached in churches, quoted by famous people, plastered on walls, and represented in many forms of imagery. Songs are written about it and some even try to sell you peace.

So, what is in this little word? How do we define it? How do we know we have peace? Can someone really promise you peace and deliver? What do we expect when we want peace?
