Let’s be honest, the world is… kind of a lot right now. There’s natural disasters due to climate change, uncertainty related to the results of the presidential election, and the unfortunate reality that if you go to see Wicked opening weekend you’ll probably have to endure at least one Idina Menzel wannabe ruining the screening for everyone (seriously this is a thing.)
So we’ve decided to combat this with something delightful - Birds! And who better to join them than a travel and wildlife writer, not to mention an avid birder - the similarly delightful Jarad Ranahan! We chat with Jared about the vibrant world of birding, celebrity birds (as in the birds are the celebrities) and which small bird species are also huge a-holes.
Plus, birding slang, the illicit substance that’s impacting bird populations, why you should never trust an owl, and a quandary about whether it’s possible to “steal” birds from your neighbors. (Spoiler alert: the bird feeder wars are very, very, real).
