Andrew Sullivan has been writing about the menace of Donald Trump over the past year for New York Magazine, warning America about creeping authoritarianism and the danger Trump poses to American democracy. Born in England, Sullivan was for many years known as the most prominent gay conservative in America. He became editor of The New Republic in his late 20s, and within a decade he started blogging, becoming one of the first must-read bloggers on the internet. Sullivan supported the Iraq war in 2003, but eventually turned against the Bush Administration because of issues like torture and gay marriage – the latter was something Sullivan had supported all the way back in the 1980s. Sullivan was among one of Barack Obama’s most ardent admirers during his first Presidential bid.
