Have You Ever Wondered Why Is Photography Hard?

So here's the question in this show. Is photography hard, or are we just making our own lives more complicated than necessary?

Lee and I think photography is pretty simple, but we get why someone can get overwhelmed by all the possibilities, options, configurations and styles. Fortunately, we have some suggestions in the show to help highlight some of the confusing items and deal with the overwhelming options.

Photography is full of technical possibilities and creative options. We have gear and gadgets, software that needs more software to plugin and do more stuff. We even have common phrases for it like “lens lust” or “GAS” (gear acquisition syndrome).

All of these products smack us over the head as solutions to our problems, with promises of making our photos better than ever.

There's some truth to those claims, but photography isn't about the gear or even the software. It's about having a vision and using your tools to make the result.

So, is photography hard? Only if you want to make it so.

What is Your Travel Photography Style?

Thank you for listening to The Photo Flunky Show. We appreciate you and have some tips about developing your travel photography style.

What does that mean?

Your style is your own preference and unique way of composing a photograph. Yes, you can take a snapshot and than can be your photography style. You can also concentrate on a subject, like food or architecture. You can shoot interesting colors or reflections. Maybe tones and textures are your thing. Odd angles, abstracts or detail photos are all fair game.

Think about the kind of shots that interest you the most. It could be something challenging or perhaps just photos that have your own sense of beauty. Whatever photography style you develop, it's something that is uniquely yours and can help identify your shots no matter what the subject.

I'll be honest, my own Instagram feed is going hungry. That's because I've neglected the service, and I neglected it because I didn't quite get it.

Imagine my delight when Lee took over one of our accounts and started building her own. Almost immediately, she was getting engagement from visitors who were truly interested in the things she shared. I had to find out why and get her to spill the beans on this episode of The Photo Flunky Show so we could all learn.

Lee's Instagram Tips

Some of the things she shared make a lot of sense and aren't that hard to do.

* Choose your niche

* Understand what your audience wants in that niche

* You can post different types of photos, as long as they are relevant to the niche

* Show your face!

Bad photography habits come in many forms. They can be mental blocks, composition issues, or even post processing errors. We'll discuss nearly a dozen common bad photography habits and how you can correct them.

We also offer some ideas to tweak your creativity to get out of those habits. Many times, we get into bad photography habits because we're concentrating a bit too much – overthinking our photography.

So we recommended a few exercises to break you out of your comfort zone and let you concentrate on something else that changes your photography process.
