Love is a beautiful foundation, but love alone is not enough to sustain a lifelong marriage. Many couples walk down the aisle with full hearts but unprepared minds, only to discover later that passion cannot replace preparation. Marriage is not just an emotional connection; it is a partnership that requires clarity, honesty, and shared vision.
Before saying “I do,” couples should have deep, intentional conversations about the things that shape everyday life and long-term commitment. These are not small talks, they are the building blocks of understanding:
Bills & Finances: Who pays what, how you’ll save, and your financial priorities.
Parenting Styles: Approaches to discipline, education, and instilling values in children.
Credit & Debt: Transparency about spending habits and existing obligations.
Religion & Faith: How shared (or differing) beliefs will shape your family.
Family Dynamics: Boundaries with in-laws and handling extended family expectations.
Childhood Traumas: Past wounds that may influence present behavior.
Expectations: Emotional, sexual, financial, and relational roles in the marriage.
Health History: Awareness of family health patterns and mental well-being.
Dreams & Bucket Lists: Personal goals, travel, and the vision you share.
Careers & Education: Ambitions, further studies, and how they align with family life.
Political & Social Views: Finding common ground and respecting differences.
These conversations may feel uncomfortable at times, but they are necessary. They protect couples from walking into marriage with hidden assumptions, unspoken wounds, or unrealistic expectations. By addressing these areas openly, you build trust, prevent resentment, and strengthen the covenant you are about to enter.
The Takeaway
Marriage is more than falling in love, it is growing in wisdom together. Discussing the hard things before marriage doesn’t weaken love; it deepens it. It creates a foundation strong enough to withstand storms and tender enough to nurture joy.
Don’t just marry the person you love, marry the person you’ve learned to understand.

Marriage is sacred — not only a covenant between husband and wife, but also a divine union sealed before God. At its deepest, prayer is not just words spoken into the air, but an intimate communion with the Father. When a husband and wife step into that sacred place together, something profound happens: their individual hearts begin to beat as one, in rhythm with the heart of God.
The Deeper Meaning of Prayer in Marriage
When couples pray together, they are not merely asking for things or repeating familiar words. They are laying bare their souls before God, their fears, their joys, their dreams, their failures. In that vulnerability, they invite their spouse to see them not just as a partner, but as a fellow pilgrim on a spiritual journey.
Prayer in marriage becomes a mirror:
It reflects the weaknesses that need God’s strength.
It reveals the gratitude that keeps the heart soft.
It nurtures the hope that carries love through trials.
In prayer, couples are reminded that they are not the source of each other’s wholeness, God is. And by lifting their hearts together, they acknowledge that their love story is safest when written by His hand.
How Shared Faith Anchors a Relationship
Every marriage will face storms — misunderstandings, wounds from the past, financial struggles, moments of doubt. Without an anchor, those storms can easily sweep couples apart. But shared faith, built through prayer, roots the relationship in something unshakable.
Prayer replaces pride with humility — because before God, both partners kneel as equals.
Prayer transforms resentment into forgiveness — because grace flows from the One who forgave us first.
Prayer restores hope in seasons of despair — because it lifts weary hearts toward a God who promises never to leave nor forsake.
It’s not simply about praying for each other, but about experiencing God together. In those quiet moments of seeking Him as one, the couple discovers a strength that arguments cannot erode and trials cannot extinguish.
Encouragement
Praying together is not a ritual but a lifeline where love is refined, unity is forged, and the bond of marriage is renewed in God’s presence. In that sacred space, couples build an altar with their love, struggles, and future, trusting God to breathe life into it all.

Transactional Marriage: Love or Business Deal? 💍💼
When you hear the word “transaction,” what pops into your head? Buying and selling, right? 💸 That’s exactly what I thought too. But hold up, can there be a transaction in marriage? Or, to put it more dramatically, can marriage turn into a business deal? 🤔 Let’s dive into this juicy topic together and find out!
First, let’s break it down: what on earth is a transactional marriage? Picture this: two people tying the knot, not because they’re head-over-heels in love, but because they’re getting something out of it - money, status, family approval etc.
In this kind of marriage, everyone has a role to play, and they stick to it like it’s their job because, well, it kinda is.
Love? Optional. Responsibilities? Non-negotiable. Na so e just be.
Transactional marriages aren’t just some rare beautiful relationship. Nope. They’re sneaking into more relationships than we’d like to admit. Think about it: how many couples start off all lovey-dovey, only to end up as glorified roommates or business partners? They’re staying together for the kids, the fame, the money, societal pressures, family talk or religious leaders take in it.
But wait o, before you start side-eyeing your own relationship (or your parents’), let’s talk about the dangers of transactional marriages. Buckle up, because this is where it gets real. 🚨
Dangers of transactional marriage.
ISSUES OF TRUST IN MARRIAGE: This whereby a partner is thinking what to get and how to get something out of the relationship and not thinking of the other person’s feelings or interest.
LACK OF EMOTIONAL CONNECTION:The parties concerned will love their lives as they wish and will not build genuine emotional connection which will lead to isolation and loneliness in the marriage.
POWER TUSSLE; Just imagine two people in a marriage whereby one has a significant right or power over wealth or fame or property. There will be signs of manipulation and exploitation from the partner.
CONFLICT RESOLUTION:Even in the right or proper marriage we advocate for listening and understanding your partner when communicating before response.(people still Dey learn and try to balance am).In a transactional marriage it will be like two elephants fighting in the woods, and na ground go suffer am.
Conflicts may never be resolved and resentment could set in for a very long period of time which eventually could split the marriage of affect the children psychologically on how they view marriage (if there are any).
These are just a few of the dangers of transactional marriage.
From experience and observation I have deduced that there is less or no happiness in a transactional marriage and could ultimately destroy the existence of it.

Marriage traditions have evolved significantly over time. In many cultures, arranged marriages were once the norm, a practice steeped in familial and societal expectations.
Meanwhile in this present times, dating apps, social media platforms have transformed how people meet and choose partners. This newsletter explores the benefits and potential drawbacks of arranged marriages compared to contemporary dating practices.
Benefits of Arranged Marriage
1. Family Support: Arranged marriages often involve families, especially the parents in the matchmaking process, which can provide a strong support system. Families typically consider compatibility (also if there is any disease or disability), values, and long-term goals, which may lead to a more stable foundation.
2. Cultural and Social Compatibility: Families may ensure that partners share similar cultural, religious, and social values, which can lead to a smoother integration and understanding within the relationship.
3. Reduced Pressure: The process can reduce the pressure of finding a partner on an individual, as families take an active role in the search and selection.
4. Emphasis on Long-Term Success: Arranged marriages are often approached with a focus on long-term stability rather than short-term romantic excitement, which may contribute to enduring relationships.
Disadvantages of Arranged Marriage
1. Limited Personal Choice: Individuals may have less say in the choice of their partner, which can lead to dissatisfaction if personal preferences are not fully considered.
2. Potential for Lack of Chemistry: The initial lack of personal connection or romantic chemistry may affect the emotional bond between partners.
Benefits of Modern Dating
1. Personal Choice: Modern dating allows individuals to have a significant say in their choice of partner, aligning with personal preferences, interests, and values.
2. Freedom and Flexibility: Online platforms offer flexibility, allowing individuals to meet potential partners at their convenience and from a diverse range of backgrounds.
3. Varied Experiences: The ability to date multiple people before settling down can help individuals understand what they truly want in a partner.
4. Increased Communication: Modern dating emphasizes open communication and personal connection, which can lead to stronger emotional bonds.
Disadvantages of Modern Dating
1. Superficiality: The emphasis on profiles and initial impressions can sometimes lead to superficial connections and a focus on appearance over deeper compatibility.
2. Dating Fatigue: The process of swiping and messaging can be exhausting and disheartening, leading to potential burnout, frustration due to multiple choices
3. Pressure to Conform: The pressure to adhere to societal standards and expectations portrayed in dating apps can impact self-esteem and personal satisfaction.
Conclusion
Both arranged marriages and modern dating have their unique advantages and challenges. Arranged marriages benefit from family support and a focus on long-term compatibility, while modern dating offers personal choice and flexibility. Ultimately, the success of either approach depends on individual preferences, values, and the quality of communication between partners.
Understanding the strengths and limitations of each method can help individuals make informed decisions about their own paths to finding a life partner. Whether through traditional means or contemporary methods, the goal remains the same: to find a meaningful and fulfilling relationship.
