Marriage is an important event in the life of an individual, and it comes with a lot of uncertainties that will only be unveiled as individuals experience it.
So, the opening question might be a question that some people have in mind before starting a new relationship or taking vows of marriage.
The main aim of this article is not to convince but to state emphatically the benefits of premarital counseling which will guide the choice of those who want to start up a new relationship or marriage and have such questions in mind.
Premarital counseling is a therapy that helps the intending couple to prepare mentally for marriage. The sessions help to make sure that they both have a healthy relationship.
Here are five (5) benefits of engaging a counselor before relationship/marriage.
It builds communication skills
When couples go to counseling, they talk together with a counselor who has the training needed to help them better understand one another. Couples who go through this type of counseling inevitably build better communication skills because they have a neutral party there to help them understand one another. No doubt this is one of the biggest benefits of premarital counseling. In addition to learning how to better communicate individual needs and desires, couples also learn how to better understand each other. They gain compassion and communication skills that will get them through the tough times.
It provides an Opportunity to resolve issues
Premarital counseling also provides a great opportunity for couples to confront issues that could lead to serious problems in marriage, and some of these issues must have been unattended over time in the relationship.
By talking with a counselor, couples may be able to settle money disagreements or talk about their plans to have children. Addressing issues before marriage is the best way to ensure a solid foundation for the future and to avoid serious conflicts after the big day. Of course, it's important for couples to be candid when they attend premarital counseling. That's the only way to realize the benefits of this time-honored tradition.
Platform to plan for the future
Many premarital counselors do more than just help couples talk through their current issues. They also help them plan actively for the future. A counselor can help couples set financial or family planning goals, and can help them find ways to accomplish those goals. Premarital counseling is the perfect place for couples to talk about the expectations that they have for married life and what they want personally in the future too. Premarital counselors help their clients focus on healthy goals and relationship changes.
It allows couples to discover new things about themselves
Counselors ask a lot of questions when they're working with engaged couples. Listening carefully to your partner's answers is a great way to learn more about them. Many couples perceive that no one knows their partners better than they do. However, counselors can help bring out important information that a partner might have been reluctant to share based on certain reasons.
This offers great growth opportunities while helping couples learn more about each other. It's also a safe space for individuals to share things that they are nervous or upset about with their partners. It can be particularly helpful if one individual in the couple has been in failed relationships before.

It is the joy of everyone going into marriage, to enjoy happily ever after, knowing that their spouse will be with them through thick and thin, the assurance of having someone have your back no matter what can't be bought with money.
There are several attitudes one should deal with immediately, but I will be discussing on 6 of such and number 5 should not be overlooked in anyway.
POOR SELF IMAGE: Have you ever taken a photograph with a camera with a dirty lens? If yes, you would noticed no matter how high quality the camera is, the photograph would never be clear.
If you don't clean the lens, you use to take the photograph of you and your life, you won't get a clear picture of you, and if such is taken to the marriage, you won't have a clear picture of your marriage which will led to continuous conflict. A good self image will give a good marital image.
NEGATIVE CRITICISM: Probably you are the type that likes giving their perspective about a matter, but you say 90% more negative views and fail to talk about the good aspect of a matter , it feels normal initially but when you are known by it, you have to learn how to CORRECT IN LOVE and CORRECT WITH LOVE.
Because if you don't work on it, your partner will feel they are not good enough for you, or you don't appreciate them their efforts concerning matters and this can lead to resentment.
HOLDING UNTO UNREALISTIC EXPECTATIONS: One thing you should know is that we are all human and no one is super human.
Setting expectations are great, but ensure they are realistic. This can lead to unfinished project. Let all goals be SMART. Having unrealistic expectations for your partner can lead to anger and depression
DEFENSIVENESS: It is defined as self-protection in the form of righteous indignation or innocent victimhood in an attempt to ward off a perceived attack, and this is really a way of blaming your partner.
Learn to take responsibility of your actions and know it is better to be at peace than to be right.
SILENT TREATMENT, WITHDRAWAL, AND DISTANCING: It is appropriate to know when silent is appropriate in an argument or conflict. Be the one who tries to resolves conflict and not one that keeps silent about conflict. If not properly checked, it can deteriorate.
The first stage is silent treatment, then withdrawal and finally distancing.
You have heard partners say things like, “we don't know how we cut off here, that we won't see ourselves for days and we are fine.”
When you see that silence is entering your relationship more that normal, ensure you ask questions so it doesn't progress .
NAGGING: No one loves to lives with someone that nags. And one way to know one nags is to continously complain and faults.
Nagging can ruin even the healthiest of relationship, so is of major priority to work on any nagging behaviour, instead of nagging, complement, applaud, praise and see your partner becoming better.
What other insignificant factors can destory a marriage?
“Hold on one sec. Let me send this text.”
How many times have we heard this from a significant other across the dinner table?
Mobile devices are one of the most popular forms of communication. Talking through cell phones and the internet can be good because they can help people have meaningful relationships with those who live far away.
However, research shows that cell phones interrupt face-to-face interactions (FTFI) in relationships and can make conversations less meaningful.
Technoference is a large problem with young adults who are dependent on their smartphones.
While technology can be helpful in relationships, this article will talk about two ways it can be harmful and how to avoid them.
PROBLEM 1
Relationship Conflicts
Phone conversations between partners affects FTFI and can lead to more relationship conflict.
Partners can feel stressed when their significant other chooses to focus on their cell phone instead of each other. This can result in the partner responding with harsh reactions, not feeling understood, or a feeling of distrust.
Partners with FTFI can have higher levels of happiness and satisfaction. This explains why an interruption can be harmful in the relationship.
Smartphone interference can cause problems or changes the attitude in the relationship.
Studies show the largest source of conflict is when couples’ happiness levels are less due to interrupted FTFI. Conflict in the relationship can be unhealthy, making conflict from cell phone usage potentially unhealthy.
SOLUTION
Healthy, open communication helps partners overcome conflict in relationships from cell phones. Research shows that when couples have open and available communication, they have less feelings of distress and more mental resilience.
PROBLEM 2
Alone Togetherness
“Alone togetherness” can make people unhappy in their relationships.
This term is used to describe times when people are in the same room, but they are distracted by their phones. However, there are different levels of alone togetherness . A mild example of alone togetherness is when someone finds his or her partner answering messages during a conversation. A moderate example would be if someone gets distracted once or multiple times because they are on a cell phone.
Being on a phone while talking to your partner can lead to unhappiness in the relationship. It can also lead to less meaningful conversations or being more connected with your cell phone than to your partner.
SOLUTION
Research shows that trust, intimacy, and confidence must be present in order to have meaningful times with romantic partners. To ease this situation and create a safe place for relationships, partners can set aside daily time to unplug and recharge the relationship. They can put their phones on airplane mode, turn them off, or leave them in another room for a time. To build trust, intimacy, and confidence, partners should put their partner first and put their phones down.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Mobile phones and relationship problems are not unrelated. Mobile phones ruining marriages are more common than we realize at times. We treat ourselves as an exception and let our vices get the best of us.
You must understand that your phone keeps you connected to work and distant friends and relatives— but can isolate you from the one you love most.
By learning to power down and tune in to your partner, you’ll experience a stronger, more lasting relationship.
Don’t let it become a cautionary tale about “how cellphone use can disconnect your relationship” and learn some restraint and enjoy the company of your loved ones.
Thank you
The Easter story is a representation of Jesus's love for the world as seen in the Holy Bible. Love that doesn't require man to do anything and love, man does not deserve any obligation. This is the reality of what Easter is all about.
What should we learn from the Easter story?
We were told that Jesus went through pain and shame to show us that he loves mankind. In intimate relationships, you must learn the act of showing love by vows not by convenience. Love is never an easy ride, it comes with giving everything to your partner.
We discovered that Jesus bore the pain and he brought men closer to God. In intimate relationships, one must understand that the love for your spouse will raise godly and great seeds as your love becomes an example for them to grow with.
The scriptures highlighted that Jesus died and resurrected on the 3rd day. In intimate relationships, the season of pain will come but will not be for long. A good season will come where you will reap the act of your love. Both partners must give to each other so the circle of love is balanced.
We saw how Jesus spoke to his disciples before his death came. In intimate relationships, talk to your partner about the coming pain, the current pain and the past pain. Share your pain with your spouse and they will understand what you are going through. This indicates trust even if they cannot bring any solution to your pain.
In the journey to his death, we saw how Peter cut off the ear of a soldier and also denied Jesus. In intimate relationships, don't change when the season of pain comes. Be your partner's greatest supporter. Be bold about your love for your spouse. Don't stop your partner from going through the challenge, don't deny them but support them.
There is a lot to learn from the Easter story. What did you learn. You can share with us in the community.

The Christian community went into an outburst after Theophilius Sunday through his Instagram handle informed the general public of his intentions to get married. For many, it was beautiful and amazing, while for some, it was a moment of sober reflection of what marriage truly is.
I am here to share some thoughts in the light of which many people especially Nigerians thought at that moment,
At the moment he shared his intentions of getting married, many thought to themselves why he decided to choose a lady who is not a Nigerian? They wondered if they were still virtuous ladies in Nigeria. You must understand that a man’s exposure beyond his country can give him an opportunity to make a choice over a wider stage. He is not limited to Nigeria. You must also understand that it is not a must to marry from your country because we have other factors that binds people from different countries together and from this story, one thing that bounds both is Christianity. They both practice Christianity and that is enough to bring them together.
Many persons were amazed of his kind of person getting married to a person who does not seem to be a minister like him. This is a reality check for everyone to know that not all doctors marry doctors, nor all lawyers marry lawyers and that applies to this case. Marriage is a place of complimenting each other as much as possible and that is why it is beautiful to find two persons of different experiences come together. It is actually boring to find too many similarities in marriage.
Some persons say he is too spiritual to get married based on the songs he sings and his ministry. They have a point but you must realize men are first men and they have desires regardless their current spiritual level or they are at a high level in the fulfillment of destiny. Appreciate them when they have like passions like every other man, it means they know humanity and they acknowledge such.
A REMINDER!
Marriage is a test of your assignment in life.
Marriage will create a level of discipline in your life.
Marriage will test your strength and you must be prepared for it.
Marriage with the wrong person can destroy your life.
Seek guidance and counselling before you choose a woman.
Theophilius Sunday is getting married and I believe he has inspired you one way or the other.
What are you inspired to do?

Life is generally a place where unusual things happen to anyone and one of those tendencies is for a lady who was engaged to her man and after a while changed his mind over the eventual marriage with her. This could happen to anybody and we must understand what to do in such a situation.
I have heard stories of many ladies in this situation and they consider it a spiritual problem and many say it is the worst kind of heartbreak after you have had the ring on for a while and having your mind prepared for a wedding. What are the reasons for such to happen?
1. He probably got new information about you that he could not go ahead with.
2. He realized he was not ready for marriage and his friends forced him to do it.
3. You probably pressured him to do a proposal.
4. He realized a new behaviour about you that he is not ready to accept.
5. You stop pretending and showing what you are.
6. His mother or family does not want you because of where you are coming from.
7. Your genotype does not work together.
8. And many more.
Whatever reason this may happen, as a lady, you must first see the good side of the situation and begin an inner dialogue to recreate yourself before the situation defines your self worth. This is a general rule I believe one must deploy whenever they get disappointed. Going forward, accept this has happened and take out some time to grief, shed the emotions, the pain, the feelings, don’t hold back the natural reactions of your hearts toward such a situation. Listen to your pain, don’t blame them because that will take your eyes from the source. The source of your pain may not be the object of your disappointment but coming from the frustrations of what people may say, your reputations or your image before the eyes of the world.
Your pain is amplified when you have a wrong reason to feel pain. Pain with a wrong purpose will elongate the pain. Listen to your pain, identify the source and maintain your self worth.
After you are able to get yourself back, kindly pick the lessons from the situation. While you pick the lessons, here are some things you should know.
You could have married him and regret all your life.
He loved you so much to leave you to someone who will love you better.
Pay attention to growing beyond the opinion of people.
Share your lessons with friends who will strengthen you.
Don't feel guilty about yourself.
Stop the comparison. You are different and you have a unique story.
Lastly, when you decide to date a guy, you have opened yourself to a level of love and pain, when you decide to go into courtship with this person, you have further opened yourself to a level of love and pain, when you decide to say yes to a proposal of marriage, you have decided to further increase the level of love and pain. We must learn to accept pain when it comes because we made the choices earlier. The fact he did not get married to you after the proposal is painful but it is a strategic pain you should always anticipate. You don't put your money in the bank and believe nothing can happen to it.
A woman is a born female. She is beautiful and amazing. She brings unique and invaluable strength that contributes to the foundation of love, resilience, and connection.
We are celebrating women more than just romantic partnerships. They are an embodiment of partners, mothers, friends, and pillars of support.
We celebrate women in many dimensions but to mention a few;
1. Nurturers and Caregivers:
We celebrate women as they carry the mantle of nurturers and caregivers in relationships. Whether as mothers, partners, or friends, their innate ability to provide emotional support, compassion, and care forms the bedrock of strong and thriving connections.
2. Strength in Vulnerability:
We celebrate women for their strength. The strength of women lies not only in resilience but also in their ability to embrace vulnerability. In relationships, this authenticity fosters intimacy, trust, and a deep connection that transcends societal expectations, allowing for genuine and meaningful bonds to flourish.
3. Friendship and Companionship:
Beyond romantic partnerships, women play a vital role in friendships and companionships. Their loyalty, understanding, and ability to share life's joys and challenges make them essential companions, enriching the tapestry of relationships with genuine connection and camaraderie.
4. Communication and Connection:
Women often excel in communication, nurturing open dialogues that strengthen relationships. Their willingness to listen, express feelings, and engage in meaningful conversations creates an atmosphere of understanding and closeness, enriching the fabric of connections with partners and loved ones.
5. Resilience and Adaptability:
In the face of adversity, women often showcase remarkable resilience and adaptability. This strength is a cornerstone of enduring relationships, as women navigate challenges with grace and fortitude, demonstrating a commitment to the shared journey of growth and resilience.
6. Supporting Personal Growth:
Celebrating women in relationships involves recognizing their role in supporting personal growth. As partners and confidantes, women often encourage the pursuit of dreams, self-discovery, and continuous improvement, fostering an environment where both individuals can flourish.
Celebrating women in relationships is a recognition of the diverse and invaluable contributions they make to the intricate tapestry of human connections. As we honor the strength, compassion, and authenticity that women bring to relationships, we affirm the importance of fostering partnerships that thrive on understanding and mutual support.
In a world where instant gratification often overshadows the beauty of slow, intentional growth, Myles Munroe's wisdom serves as a gentle reminder that true love is not a destination but a transformative journey—one that unfolds with purpose, effort, and unwavering dedication.
Imagine a tapestry woven with threads of commitment, trust, and shared dreams—a masterpiece crafted through the careful hands of time and devotion. This is the essence of intentional relationships, where every stitch represents a moment of love, vulnerability, and genuine connection.
Purpose infuses meaning into the fabric of our relationships, guiding us toward a shared vision of the future. It's the compass that steers us through life's uncertainties, anchoring us in moments of doubt and uncertainty. When couples align their hearts with a common purpose, they create a synergy that transcends individual desires, fostering a deep sense of unity and fulfillment.
Effort is the heartbeat of every enduring love story, pulsating with the rhythm of commitment and perseverance. It's the willingness to show up, day after day, in both moments of joy and hardship. Like a gardener tending to his garden, couples must nurture their relationship with care and attention, cultivating an environment where love can blossom and thrive.
Intentionality transforms ordinary moments into extraordinary memories, infusing each interaction with depth and significance. It's the conscious choice to listen, to empathize, and to cherish every aspect of our partner's being. In a world of distractions and fleeting encounters, intentional love is a beacon of authenticity—a sanctuary where two souls can truly connect on a profound level.
