Tommy Avallone returns to talk Barney! His new documentary “I Love You, You Hate Me” is streaming now on Peacock, and looks at the cultural hate and backlash that surrounded the popular purple dinosaur almost from his first introduction to the world. Tommy chronicles the creation of Barney, his rise and fall in popularity, and the hate the sprang up around him. He explains how Barney’s cultural phenomenon status impacted Bob West who voiced Barney and actor David Joyner who physically played the purple dinosaur in the giant costume. Tommy talks about the “Barney Curse” that plagued creator Sheryl Leach’s family, and shares some of the dark urban legends surrounding Barney involving drug cartels and serial killers.
