ONE: Make innovated Merch, and have a well-functioning e-commerce store up and running to make online sales and ship easily.

TWO: Work on make your music marketing the most professional way possible, and get people to fall in love with you. Have a daily show?

THREE: Create two brands, one personal brand, and one band brand set up and organized.

FOUR: Get your publicity set up at a professional level that is current for 2020. Send out your press to 100 outlets big or small.

FIVE: Study at a professional level of understanding what publishing and royalties are

SIX: Learn how to “clear the song,” and figure out the possibilities to get set up for submitting songs for ads.

SEVEN: Research ASCAP and BMI, and set it up if you have yet. Understand this at a professional level.

EIGHT: COLLABS! Write songs with other musicians, be on other band’s podcasts or youtube channels. Get creative and start collaborating like crazy!

In Episode 36 of Idea Diary - Today, I talk about Damian Keyes video he posted today that got me thinking about a new way to possibly get more ad revenue from people listening to your album for free. Simply post your full album as a podcast episode inside Spotify, get some ads on that episode using Anchor FM, and share that link of your “full album episode” out as a place to listen to full album instead of having people just listen to the album inside Spotify as music streaming. Is that a hack? Not totally sure, but sounds like an additional revenue stream option for your fans to listen and share your music easily. I am certainly going to try it!

Bands and musicians may need to consider starting daily content of some kind. to connect with people, and have people getting to know you. There are no gatekeepers anymore! Every musician may possibly need to personal branding themselves, as well as branding the music. That’s a minimum of two brands you need to market… sounds time consuming and hard, but there is money to be made being a musician. You just have to find the way that is easy for you. In Episode 34 of Idea Diary - Today, I talk about more failure fatigue, and going from success, to rock bottom, back up to success.

I'm working on an idea on how to study "failure" with you guys. I came up with an idea of studying a moment when a successful person actually did go through a tough time to get to where they are today.

Okay, super random, but let's take a look at Donny Osmond.

Donny Osmond was on television and a teen idol sensation from 1963-1979. He was 5 years old when he started working, and 22 when his last television episode aired, the Donny & Marie show. That's a fantastic amount of time to live inside the good feeling of being successful.

However, from 1980-1989 he had absolutely NOTHING going on. That's 10 years of feeling like CRAP! He tried to get jobs so that he could get back to performing, but no one wanted him. He didn't receive any of the money he made during his youth, and he had to start all over. People even told him his name was "poison," and the only way he was going to successful again was to change his name, and just be a totally different person. He obviously didn't do that.

Eventually, he recorded an album in England (where a label thought they could make money off a new Donny Osmond album), and recorded a song named, "Solider of Love."

A Donny Osmond fan happened to send the cassette single British import of "Soldier of Love" to a New York City radio station. The program director at the time liked the song. She wanted to play it on the station but was afraid to say it was a "Donny Osmond Song."

The radio station program director created a new way to promote a song at the radio station. She played the song as a new song by a "mystery artist." At the end of several weeks, the song was the most requested song at the station, and she brought Donny into the studio to reveal who the singer was.

Donny got signed by Capital Records and he was back working again.

So, what do you guys think.... Was it fate for Donny to live with 10 years of “no,” or should he have worked harder?????

In Episode 32 of Idea Diary - Today, I talk about three ways I have failed as a leader.

ONE: Create a disagree space - I feel like when working with teams give the consideration for anyone on the team to bring disagreements at any time to the table. Make sure that people that have disagreements also come to the disagreement meeting with SOLUTIONS options to discuss. You will need a jury, voting or outside tie-breaker person that everyone agrees on to help make decisions. Once the meeting happens, and the outcome decision is agreed upon, then everyone needs to be happy with the result. With any new business going forward working in groups, I will implement this practice.

TWO: Don’t let things go unsaid to keep the peace. Address things NOW to make sure everyone is happy faster. Trying to polite instead of working out issues is not really helping, and it’s actually nicer to just deal with stuff right away and get over it.

THREE: In the past, I went full speed ahead to achieved goals, and I wouldn’t slow down when others dropped balls. I would just pick up things that needed to get down, and plow through without addressing any problems. Now, I will stop and connect with the group to make sure if there is a problem to fix it first, then get back on track.

After one month of daily podcasting, I am committing to ONE YEAR of daily shows,. I am also committing to three years of making the show happen, even thought it might not be everyday after one year. I feel like that will be great test to see if a podcast just being yourself, all by yourself, could be something profitable and worthy of anyone’s time.

In Episode 30 of Idea Diary - Today, I talk about the nudging feeling I am having to have fresh flowers around, and my goal to spend $5 every two weeks to have four tiny bouquets of fresh flowers consistently in my life. I’m still testing out types of flowers for the length of time they stay beautiful and the price. I have been changing the water on my bouquets every three days, and start them at a tall length, and slowly cut them down in size as the week goes on. Just reporting on the experiment. Also, reporting on the two hour a day experiment that I am calling, “EXTREME ME TIME!” Still curious on who wants to take the challenge with me, and report results!

Dr. David Hawkins recognized The Consciousness Scale, and Christie Marie Sheldon explains it pretty well in her talks about, “Love or Above.” I recommend you check her out. I’ll post a video of hers that I like below to get you started.

In Episode 29 of Idea Diary - Today, I talk about the terrifying aspect of people that try to SELL you stuff and they don’t care if you need it, if it works, or if you can even afford it. Courses and conferences can bring huge value to your business education, but you must be careful. There are some bad actors out there trying to sell you stuff that may or may not help you. I found a Youtube channel exposing Don Lok. He mention a book by Robert B. Cialdini called, “ Psychology of Influence of Persuasion. It’s terrifying. I’m reading an abridged one-hour audio book of that book, and it’s worth a listen. Learn all the dirty tricks that scammers use to influence you to give them your money. Yikes!
