Idling In The Impala | a ride through SPN fandom and fanfiction

Merry Holidays! We hope you all get the chance to relax and spend time with those you love! Karlee and Sandra ended up reminiscing all things Christmas along with their commentary of Supernatural’s holiday episode “A Very Supernatural Christmas” waaay back from season 3. Enjoy!

Some Christmas FanFic Recs:

A recommendation from one of our favorite listeners, Ms. Autobahn. She spoke highly of this Destiel AU story, A Model Christmas (Note: NSFW Pics - Seriously, don’t say we didn’t warn ya!)

If you’ve spent time in the backseat with these two, you know how Karlee and Sandra feel about the Supernatural finale. Like many other watchers, they wanted something different for the boys. So, for this episode of Canon Fodder, they’ve got two recommendations for series that are very near and dear to their fanfic hearts. One of these ending fix-its is written by an amazing SPN friend/fanfic legend; the other belongs to Sandra. No bias or partiality here!

Karlee and Sandra were lucky enough to have SPN lovers and writers Carole, Tammy, and Sandy back to discuss J2 and A/B/O fanfiction. Great discussion, as always. They got a little sidetracked along the way, but that’s half the fun!

Reach out to these lovely ladies and read their work!

Character discussion time! We’re talking about King of the Crossroads, King of Hell, arguably the best baddie to ever “bad” on SPN: Crowley.

Dean Winchester/You, Dean Winchester/Original Female Character(s)

Summary: Dean's admired your hunting skills and prowess for years. You have a relationship with the eldest Winchester built on mutual respect and a level playing field when it comes to handling monsters and having each other's back.

When a wrong assumption he's had for years is corrected, it leads to both of you being presented with an opportunity to explore and be honest with the feelings that are hiding just under the surface.

The Battle of the Dads episode stirred up some strong feelings for Karlee and Sandra. Turns out, a long-time listener had some thoughts as well and sent them an email about it. Which, in turn, created more thoughts by Karlee and Sandra. So, now, here they are, reading some fan mail and having a discussion about the topic that never seems to get old around these parts - John Winchester’s A+ Parenting.

Karlee and Sandra debated on calling this episode “Mommy Issues” as the topic of discussion is the enigmatic character, Mary Winchester. She’s been a source of loss and wanting for the boys. A ghostly influence and force over their lives for decades. And then, she was resurrected and thrown back into the mix during the final seasons. Needless to say, there are many, many thoughts.

Podfic Narration Time – “The Coriolis Effect” by firesign10

Huge thanks to Carole (firesign10) for giving me permission to narrate. There’s a lot of love in this Sam/Dean story, which was wonderful to experience.

Please visit the fic on AO3 and give it all the kudos and comments - it deserves a ton of praise! Also, this fic is a story from the 2020 Supernatural Reversebang Challenge (a thing I just learned about a couple of weeks ago), and it showcases some amazing digital art from Jld71. So make sure to send kudos to all the collaborators that brought this story to life.

Dean Winchester/Sam Winchester

Summary: Dean awakes from being in a coma after being in a car accident. He sees Sam sitting by his bedside and reaches out to him. He knows who he is and he remembers Sam, but he has no memory of Sam being his brother and thinks they are a married couple. Sam is stunned by Dean’s revelation that he thinks they’re more than just brothers and has no idea how to react to this since it’s his deepest desire coming true.

Ah, the Impala has a ton of people along for the ride this episode, Y’all! Three talented fanfic authors, who ship and write Wincest, have joined Karlee and Sandra for a fantastic discussion. If the pairing of Sam/Dean is your cup of tea, you won’t want to miss this one!

Reach out to them and read their work! Can’t wait to have them back!
