Executive Director for the Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group, Mendy Harlow, and Salmon and Steelhead Biologist, Clayton David, came on Daybreak to talk about the challenges that salmon are facing with climate change and what steps you can do to help.

35th District Representative Dan Griffey called into Daybreak to talk about HB 1168 which is being promoted by the Washington State Commissioner of Public Lands, Hilary Franz. Rep. The Commissioner of Public Lands for Washington, State Hilary Franz, came on Daybreak to explain HB 1168, Titled "Concerning long-term forest health and the reduction of wildfire dangers." The bill creates a dedicated funding source for wildfire response, forest restoration and community resilience strategies.

Commissioner Franz, talks about the rise in burned acres across the state and how this impacts every Washingtonian. There is bi-partisan support in Olympia and partnerships from tribal to private are forming across the state. She explains how the current aircraft available to fight fires is outdated, including helicopters from the Vietnam War.

Central Mason Fire & EMS Chief Mike Patti about how little time people actually have to get out of their homes when the smoke detector goes off. The time has gone down from 15-20 minutes to maybe 3 minutes. The main reason for this is the change in how furniture is made.

Jeff Slakey had the chance to talk with the new Shelton Police Chief Carole Beason. Chief Beason comes from San Diego and the conversation covers her time there on the various task forces and how that can translate here to Shelton. She also talks about what she's seen and likes so far in the city, her leadership style and what football team she roots for.

Mark Mead, Stewardship Forester for the Mason Conservation District, came on Daybreak to talk about the Urban Tree Program for the city of Shelton They are trying to give away 50 trees to city residents as part of the City’s stormwater planning. Trees provide a huge impact and they are giving them away just to get people to plant them and help in efforts to control these issues. The conversation is extended from the broadcast version to talk more about the trees that are available.

Superintendent of Shelton Schools, Dr. Alex Apostle, called into Daybreak and responded to statements attributed to him at the Shelton City Council Meeting on January 19. Dr. Apostle categorically denies saying that the proposed workforce housing development in the city of Shelton would be "devastating to the school district". He also talks about the reopening of the schools and how SSD is working to get things ready.
