Being part of a community, especially the ones that share a common goal, not only satisfies our need for companionship, but also gives us a sense of purpose. We dedicated our last regular episode this season for a discussion on the importance of community groups outside the Philippines that are calling for action. Sammie Jam Rumbaua; an advocate, community organizer, youth worker and entrepreneur, joins us from Vancouver, Canada to talk about why it’s vital that we give voice and platform to the vulnerable members of our community. What’s Roasting? Filipino Potluck!

What’s not to love about a potluck party? Not only will you get to have a good time with your friends, you’ll also get to showcase your cooking skills (or your mom’s best dish). Speaking of potluck, we are joined this episode by Kiya Basabas, writer and director of the play “Potluck” which was showcased in sold-out shows in this year’s biggest open-access arts festival in New Zealand, Fringe. The crew sat down with Kiya to discuss the play, her passions in life, her Filipino background plus more.

For part 2 of our Pinoy Doctors Abroad Special, we linked up with two Filipino doctors currently based in the United States. Both hailing from the University of the Philippines, Dr. Denise Sese joined us from Ohio while Dr. Nico Cabrera is in California. We talked about their journey to becoming medical practitioners in the US, the challenges they face in their profession especially in the time of Covid, the phenomenon that is "brain drain" in the Philippines, their plans for the foreseeable future, and a lot more in between. This is the first time for most of us to meet, but it sure did not feel that way as we had so much fun talking that it seemed like we've known each other for a while. What’s Roasting? Filipino Doctors 2-Part Special

A few weeks ago, we had our first multi-part episodes when Ria, Jason, and Michelle guested in our show. They all have Pinoy roots and are now media practitioners based in Canada. This time around, we are featuring Pinoy doctors practicing in North America in a two-part special. Given that health professionals are some of the busiest people in the world these days, we’re very much grateful to be joined by three of them.

First up is Dr. JJ Dubec, a Vancouver physician and an automotive enthusiast. As usual, we touched on how Dr. JJ is doing nowadays in the time of corona, his Filipino heritage, the Pinoy community in Vancouver, his love for collecting luxury cars, and more. Dr. JJ was such a character that we had so much fun talking to him and getting to know him, and one thing we can say is he’s definitely a guy that’s full of surprises.
