I'll Be Honest

1 John 4:1 says, "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world." However, there are three things that make testing the spirits difficult in our day. First, the ecumenical and universal spirit of our day that seeks to promote unity in the midst of false teaching. Secondly, people's own experiences make it difficult to test the spirits because men refuse to test them with the Word of God. Thirdly, our own feelings can make it difficult to test the spirits because we can attach too much importance to how we feel about a person than what they say about Jesus Christ.

Prayer must have been the most remarkable thing in the life of Jesus because the disciples asked of the Lord that He would teach them how to pray. The prayer life of our Lord is that which we should strive to imitate and look at carefully as we study the Scriptures.

When the Bible talks about the church, it is not referring to the building, but to the assembly of the redeemed. It is also not referring to the pretenders, but to those who are truly born again and washed by the blood of Christ. It is in fellowship with such people that you will find a world of love. God intends the church to resemble heaven in this respect of love. The only love in this world that truly resembles the love of heaven is the love found in the church.

Perfect love is the result of God's love being perfected in us. This is not something unreachable, or unobtainable. This is real and this is something we should experience in our lives.
