Asahel Nettelton's feelings were often severely tried by the unwise counsel which some professing Christians were in the habit of giving to awakened sinners. He has been heard to say, that he recognized more evil from this source, than from all the opposition of public enemies of religion. He usually occupied one meeting in considering these misguided directions. A sketch of the address delivered on these occasions is found among his papers, of which the following is an extract.

Lyrics:
Ignoring Your love
We went our own way
We were far off
We talked our own praise.
We were like sheep
Just going astray
But You have come, Lord what have You done?
What have You done?
What have You done?
What have You done, Lord
Hallelujah, what have You done?
You sent Your Son
From Your very own side
He poured Himself out
such great sacrifice
To die for sinners
Redeem fallen man
You bore our own sins, Lord,
What have You done?
What have You done?
What have You done?
What have You done, Lord
Hallelujah, what have You done?
All! All! All for Christ!
He deserves our all!
All, brethren, all for Christ!
Give to Christ your all! [2x]
How blessed is the man
Whose sins are forgiven
Whose sins are covered
With His precious blood
How blessed is the man
With righteousness given
Apart from his works, Lord
What have You done?
You call us saints
You don't call us sinners
You call us sheep
You don't call us goats
You call us friends
Not Your enemies
You call us sons, Lord
What have You done?
We're waiting on You
Our eyes are on You
We cannot say
No - talk, sing, or tell
Words cannot capture
Enough of Your worth
We thank You and say,
Lord, what have You done?
Let's give Him our strength
Let's give Him our youth
Never postpone
No, never be fooled
Hold forth the Truth
The Word of our God
This privilege is ours
Oh, what have You done?
What have You done?
What have You done?
What have You done, Lord
Hallelujah, what have You done?
All! All! All for Christ!
He deserves our all!
All, brethren, all for Christ!
Give to Christ your all!
Christ! Christ! All for Christ!
He deserves our all!
Christ! Christ! All for Christ!
Give to Christ your all! [Amen]
Introspectionism has its seekers looking, not at Christ as their hope, but their repentance. Thus repentance itself becomes a fetish. If one has repented enough he has hope of acceptance. If not he must wait until God reveals more wickedness to repent of.
Tim refutes the idea that some come away with from 1 John 5:18. The error that born again believers have two natures: the old, and the new nature, the old and the new man. So, they say when a Christian sins, it is the old man who is sinning, and not the new creation, because the new creation cannot sin.
Are you truly a Psalm 1 man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, but your delight is in the law of the LORD, and on His law you meditate day and night?
The Bible teaches us that it is God who makes Christians. Paul says in Ephesians that God has made us alive together with Christ. God makes people into something that they were not before. We are not talking about something that men start, but it is the essential work of God.
What is a good attitude to have considering your debts when giving? Should you give a small amount, or does that show a lack of faith in God to provide from His own hand? Or should you give as you would like to give, as if you did have the means, trusting in Him for your financial situation; or is that a lack of wisdom and lack of stewardship for your wife and kids?
What is the Bible's view on Christians exercising? Someone wrote in saying, "By the time I drive to a gym, work out, shower, change clothes, drive back, it is almost a two hour ordeal. I don't want to spend that much time each day in something unless God affirms it as good, and not just neutral."
I am all for sharpening our minds… and a greater theological understanding, but we cannot afford for it to stop there. Does your theology make your heart dance? Does it move you to obedience? Do you know anything of a “felt” Christ? – Don Currin
Preached at the Fellowship Conference New England 2017
I see the preparation these people make for Sunday. I'm not talking about several hours of prayer. I'm talking about lights, music... everything is choreographed... and people come in and they get wrapped up in the event; and their strength comes from the events. That is wrong! It must come from Christ. - Paul Washer
