Welcome to another episode of I’ll Show You Mine! This week, Elyse is showing James an American classic, Billy Wilder’s The Apartment from 1960, starring Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine. Insurance agent C.C. Baxter lets his bosses “borrow” his apartment to conduct their extramarital affairs, but things get even more awkward when the big boss wants to use the apartment to take out the elevator operator Baxter has a crush on.
Join us as we talk about the wonderful performances in this movie from the entire cast, the smartly funny yet thoughtful script, and how this is a romantic comedy that doesn’t always go where you expect it to.
**Just a warning that an attempted suicide is a plot point in the movie so we do discuss that a bit in this episode.
Our next episode will be August 28th, when James shows Elyse Cave Story for the PC.
Our theme song is by us! James Sparkman and Elyse Wietstock.

A real-time strategy game that revolutionized the genre, StarCraft tells the story of three warring species on the far edge of the Milky Way Galaxy.
Join us as we talk about that magic Blizzard touch for great stories and characters wrapped in a well-designed package, James recalls how he first played StarCraft after being dumped in a computer lab at a summer job, and Elyse reminds everyone that she is not good at this game.
Our next episode will be August 14th, when Elyse shows James The Apartment from 1960.

Welcome to another episode of I’ll Show You Mine! This week, Elyse is showing James Tombstone from 1993. This early 90s Western revival tells the true story of Wyatt Earp and the gunfight at the OK Corral, and everything that happened in between in Tombstone, Arizona in the early 1880s.
Join us as we marvel at the moustaches on display, lament the lack of compelling characterization for female characters, and realize this may not be a prestige western, but it’s definitely a lot of fun.
Our next episode will be July 31st, when James shows Elyse Blizzard’s Starcraft for PC.

Welcome to another episode of I’ll Show You Mine! This week, James is showing Elyse the late 90s classic, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. A skateboarding sports game that lets you play as your favorite professional skateboarders, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater was emblematic of an era when skateboarding was at the center of a counter-culture taking the world by storm.
Join us as we talk about James’ traumatic past as a bookish child forced into the high-octane world of Tony Hawk, the game’s button-mashy controls, and of course, the iconic soundtrack.
Our next episode will be July 17th, when Elyse shows James Tombstone from 1993.

Welcome to another episode of I’ll Show You Mine! We’re taking a bit of a break from our normally scheduled season to highlight modern Black filmmakers and game developers. Over the past few weeks, as protests against police brutality, racism and violence have spread all over the world, people are doing what they can to direct attention to anti-racism efforts and funds for the victims of racism and violence across the country. We’re just a couple of small-time podcasting nerds but we figured, the least we could do would be to turn our gaze toward some recent releases by promising Black creators, show them some love, and remind you our dear listeners to do what you can to unlearn inherent biases, speak out against racist institutions, and support Black art and culture in your communities.
This episode was a bit awkward for us, we’re a very liberal pair and have always believed in equality but we sometimes struggle with feeling like we don’t want to speak and take up room. However all the people coming out over the last few weeks to add their voices to the chorus demanding change has inspired us to join in and at the very least make it clear where we stand. Maybe we come off a little corny, but that’s okay.
The movie we’re watching in this episode is Selah and the Spades, released in 2019 and directed by Tayarisha Poe and starring Lovie Simone, Celeste O’Connor, and Jharrel Jerome.
The game we’re playing is Treachery in Beatdown City, developed by NuChallenger and released for PC and Nintendo Switch in 2020.

Welcome to another episode of I’ll Show You Mine! This week Elyse is showing James a big beautiful musical from France, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg from 1964.
A bittersweet love story told in stunning visuals, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg is a wall-to-wall singing musical which tells the tale of Geneviève and Guy, a pair of young lovers torn apart when Guy is drafted into the Algerian War.
Join us as we get swept away by the romance, music, and color of it all, and can’t stop talking about how pretty Catherine Deneuve is.
The truth is we plan episodes ahead of time and wondered, given the current state of the country and the media landscape, if we should not release this episode and do something else instead. The Umbrellas of Cherbourg is a candy-coated musical that Elyse chose to show to James as a bit of a pick-me-up in the middle of a pandemic, but given the news of rampant acts of racist violence, police brutality, and protests for justice happening all over the country, we didn’t want to be silent in the face of it. We’re releasing this episode as normal, but we’re also going to be dropping a bonus episode this month, to highlight Black creators and do our small part to honor Black lives and show solidarity with those fighting for a better future.

Welcome to another episode of I’ll Show You Mine! This week, James is showing Elyse one of the lesser known Nintendo franchises, Pikmin. The pet project of renowned Nintendo director Shigeru Miyamoto, Pikmin was inspired by the sight of ants walking in unison in his garden. A game unlike many of the others in the Nintendo canon, Pikmin nonetheless spawned several sequels and continues to have a dedicated fanbase.
Join us as we talk about the unique controls and mechanics of this game, how it feels like nothing else that was out at the time, and how dang CUTE it all is.
Our next episode will be June 5th, when Elyse shows James, “The Umbrellas of Cherbourg” from 1964.

We’re back to our regular schedule and back to our old tricks as Elyse shows James another Don Bluth film, The Secret of NIMH from 1982. “NIMH” tells the story of a widow mouse, Mrs. Brisby, who enlists the help of a group of intelligent and mysterious rats to move her family out of the farmer’s field in which they live before plowing time, without moving her sick son, Timothy.
Join us as we talk about the beautiful animation in this movie, dive back into that special darkness of Bluth animated films, and talk about what made this movie so memorable to a lot of children of the 80s and 90s.
Our next episode will be May 22nd, when James shows Elyse, “Pikmin” for the Nintendo Game Cube.
