I'm Getting Married

Natalie Klein is a real-bride, in fact - she was married two weeks ago. What that means, is that she had her wedding during the pandemic here in Australia - despite the restrictions which I know are causing people a lot of stress and anxiety - including the 'no-dancing' rule. Natalie split her wedding into 2 different days, 2 months apart. A small ceremony with close family, complete with photography, videography and styling in June, and a reception two months later in August, which was subject to all of the social distancing rules - including restrictions around seating plans, no dancing with guests and no shared meals.

Natalie talks me through her wedding planning journey - from the start of her planning when no-one had even heard the words 'cover-19', through to watching the updates change on the news, seeing other weddings postpone or cancel, and how thinking and acting quickly and confidently with her plans, allowed her to have an amazing day - despite being in the middle of a global pandemic.

I was lucky enough to be joined by the amazing Nas Campanella - ex-triple J newsreader, current ABC reporter, and today's real wedding guest. For many people, wedding planning is all about the pinterest boards and instagram inspo - but how do you plan your wedding if you have low-vision, or like Nas, no vision? Nas shares her wedding planning journey, all the details of her big day - including a to-die-for dinner menu, and how the wedding planning journey can be made more accessible for people with a disability.

This week's episode is a real wedding with a twist. We are talking to real bride Nouda Mahmoud all about her big fat Lebanese wedding! Think: 1000 locals celebrating you in your parents village, Lebanese pop singers having mini-tantrums at your reception, losing your bra before your big dress change and dancing the night away with more fireworks than you can count!

As a home baker and the office feeder at my day job, I take my cake seriously. And even though at first glance you may not realise what goes into making a dream wedding cake, trust me when I tell you it's a lot! So for today's episode I sat down (over a big bowl of red velvet cake scraps that I absolutely devoured) with the amazing Ash from Creme De La Cakes.

Ash makes the most delicious and beautiful cakes from her purpose built kitchen in Melbourne and is an absolute wealth of knowledge when it comes to what makes the perfect wedding cake.

We chat everything from how big your cake really needs to be to feed the right amount of guests to how to do it yourself if that's what you really want!

And here's a fun fact I learnt during our interview: in the industry, they call the wedding cake makers, cakers! How cute is that?

I was lucky enough to be able to sit down with the amazing wedding dress designer Georgia from Georgia Young Couture in Melbourne and ask her everything I have ever wanted to know about wedding dresses - from how far in advance to make that first consultation, her views on why you don't need to punish yourself by losing weight before your big day - and whether or not you should be shimmying your butt into Spanx under your wedding dress!

Georgia is an absolute powerhouse with an amazingly successful brand, who also happens to be an absolute ray of sunshine and a joy to interview. We had a lot of laughs recording this episode while sitting on the floor of her bridal dressing room and I just know you are going to love listening to her words of wisdom.

To help me tell the story, I brought in my sister/best friend/maid of honour Julia and we had an absolute ball. There are tears, laughter and lots of self reflection. I get real with money chat, emotional talk and all the ups and downs that came with my wedding. From being body shamed in the wedding dress store, to being yelled at by a priest, this episode covers it all!
