Ladies and Gentleman, welcome to the greatest programming idea we ever had. And by we, I mean frequent guest and friend of the pod Erik. Every week during the month of March, the crew will be pitting two Nicolas Cage movies against each other. This week the pairing is horror/comedy, a genre that allows Cage to really exemplify the batshit (pardon the pun) craziness the actor is best at. This is a great episode, and we're excited to dive into the mind of one Nic Cage as the month goes on.

This week, the crew gets deep and sad in their discussion of the latest Hulu release Nomadland. The film engages with heavy topics like loneliness, purpose and purposelessness, the victims of capitalism, death and grief, and more... and the hosts follow suit. Caleb isn't able to make this one, but filling in is Alicia's friend Rahul. It's a good discussion- probably the heaviest episode to date.

This week, the crew (minus Arjun, plus Devin) takes on the newest HBO Max release Judas and the Black Messiah. We speak on everything from the direction to the performances to the politics of the film. Upon editing, I realized that we never spoke on the score & soundtrack... which rules, in my (caleb's) opinion.

This week, the crew decides to play a game, seeing as how The Little Things wasn't quite up to snuff. After a quick 20 minute discussion of the new Denzel Washington, Rami Malek, and Jared Leto vehicle, we play variations on the Cinephile game to test which one of us is the one true cinephile. I had to edit multiple jeopardy themes into the pauses. Hope it was worth it lol.

The crew tries something new this week, as they play a "game" of sorts where we each give a "gift" of one of our favorite films to a host who hasn't seen it. The topic was loosely defined as being "a film by one of your favorite filmmakers that your person hasn't seen," but Brooke broke the rules, because of course she did. Fake film person tbh. I wonder if she ever reads these descriptions. Brooke, this is YOUR test, just as Erik and Jehan were tested in this episode. Anyways, we discuss Park Chan-wook's The Handmaiden, Albert Brooks' Defending Your Life, Elaine May's Ishtar, and Denis Villeneuve's Arrival. It's a fun episode! This week the crew dives into One Night in Miami, the new film on Amazon Prime that tells the story of one night in which Cassius Clay, Malcolm X, Sam Cooke, and Jim Brown come together to discuss their thoughts and philosophies regarding race, capital, entertainment, and religion. It's a rich film with many ideas presented, and the crew tries to touch on what they got out of it. It's safe to say that we're all excited to see where Regina King's directorial career goes from here!

It's that time of year again! This week, the crew reflects on the strange movie year that was 2020. Brooke admits she hasn't watched any new movies at all, even the ones we talked about on the podcast (she's really great at fakin' it till she makes it). Alicia has an existential crisis live on air. Caleb accidentally skips over Sir Steve McQueen and apologizes profusely. Arjun expresses his love for lists and hatred of Rise of Skywalker. Plus- every guest (except for Devin) we've ever had chimes in on their faves of the year!
