Noirvember continues with an examination of Hitchcock's classic noir Vertigo paired with the neo-noir Nightcrawler. Brooke is on leave, but Professor Evan Price deftly stepped in to help us out! We start out with a quick discussion of Alien, then move onto Vertigo, Nightcrawler, and then a discussion of the two films together. Then members start to leave Willy Wonka-Style until it's an intimate final 5 minutes with just Evan and Caleb.

In our second Noirvember episode, we discuss Touch of Evil and Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion in an intimate fireside chat between Devin, Brooke, and Caleb. The theme of this episode is ACAB, as both films feature dubious policemen whose questionable morals puts them at odds with truth and righteousness in one way or another. Despite Caleb's continual brain fog, this episode's a good one thanks to Brooke's bravery in the face of unstoppable video freezing and Devin's propensity for coming in clutch when the pod needs it.

Welcome to Noirvember! This month, the crew will each pick out a classic noir film to discuss, and another host will pick out a neo-noir to match. This week, Caleb chose to discuss Nicolas Ray's 1950 masterpiece In a Lonely Place, as he wanted to fill the blindspot. Arjun selected the Coen Brothers' Barton Fink (1991) to pair with In a Lonely Place; fitting, as the two films both deal with screenwriters teetering on the edge of a breakdown involved in grizzly murders they didn't commit. We finally break away from the monotony of mid in this special episode... happy Noirvember!

Another Netflix movie on the docket as this week we're thinking of watching The Trial of the Chicago 7, the newest Aaron Sorkin docudrama starring a slew of big name actors taking the courtroom. We have another guest on this week as Julia Gibson helps us tackle some of the historical and cultural context surrounding the real-life events in Sorkin's script. 

We get into the limits of crowd pleasing Oscar biopics, our mixed feelings on Sorkin, propaganda, and a host of other interesting topics surrounding this movie that is sure to have a lot of buzz for the rest of the movie season!

It’s that time of year again- time for all of us to take a break from the horrors of reality in order to escape into the horrors of fiction. This week, however, we’re thinking of watching the best kind of Halloween movie: the horror/comedy. We’ve got our first ever double feature for you all today: Hubie Halloween and The Wolf of Snow Hollow. Devin fills in for Brooke and makes sure the others feel bad for not hating Hubie Halloween, and Arjun takes the gloves off to express his problems with Wolf of Snow Hollow. Caleb and Alicia enjoyed both!
