Mariam immigrated from Morocco in pursuit of her studies. She faced her biggest challenges after college while working in the corporate world in marketing and advertising, as an immigrant and woman of color. Mariam struggled to adjust to a different culture and a way of life.
We discussed how corporations can help immigrants, by being more human, and understanding that there is much more that defines people than just their job . Mariam stressed the importance of not judging people by their accent and letting immigrants bring value to the corporation with their unique perspective.
Mariam also spoke about the power of community, and shared tips on building a community as an immigrant. In her career, Mariam felt that its better to work hard for herself than for a company. To save her own mental health and wellbeing she left the corporate world and launched her own advertising agency. While on her healing journey she started a side hustle to encourage women of color to take care of their mental health- I See You Wellness. The side hustle turned to be her full time job.
I See You Wellness has products that help calm your nervous system, and if you are in Brooklyn, NY you can join healing sessions that include sound baths, and reiki. You can also become a member in the virtual sanctuary.
