Many people today, emotionally and spiritually, are searching for something in their life... they’re searching for love, hope, joy, peace... all of this can be found in one gift, but unfortunately, the majority are settling for imitations and cheap substitutes that will never satisfy! What is the “real“ gift that will forever satisfy? Where do you find it? Is it easy to find? ARE YOU A SURVIVOR?... not physically, but are you a spiritual survivor in an anti-God culture that’s trying to brainwash you and change the way you think, make decisions and live to match the times?

How do we survive spiritually around such a constant influence from a God-less culture? How do we help our kids survive? How we encourage and help others survive?

The motto and theme from the show “Survivor” was “outwit, outplay, outlast”. A similar theme could be claimed spiritually, although this is not a game! To be a “survivor“ spiritually, we must “out- trust, out-stand, and out-live“!

What does it look like when we make a stand like this in a God-less culture? How does God use it for his glory?

WOLVES IN SHEEPS CLOTHING...the Bible told us they would be present among us, and in this biblically deviant culture combined with the increased greed, pride and deception in the heart of man, especially amongst those who call themselves pastors, they are more prevalent than you think. In fact, they are often undetected and even popular/glorified in our culture...so why aren’t they called out for who they are and what they teach?

The big problem is, many people who call themselves Christians today are being duped and deceived themselves by these false teachers, most of the time because they do not know what the Bible says, so they can even notice when somebody has deviated from it. This has left the door wide open for Satan to use these false teachers to lead people astray, either following a false/fabricated Jesus that’s made up in their mind, or leading people away from a life of sanctification in Christ and into more worldliness in the culture.

Here is how Satan uses a false teacher to deceive,...he is often filled with 90% truth, and 10% lies! Do you know God‘s word well enough to raise red flags in your heart and mind when that 10% is touched on?

How do you know if someone is a false teacher? Are there false teachers in our world today that need to be identified so people can stay away from them?

ARE YOU THANKFUL?... not just when you’re reminded, or when somebody brings it to your attention, but is your heart’s cry one of gratitude and thankfulness to God who has given you every single thing you have, realizing that you cannot take credit for any of it, or do anything to definitively ensure that you keep it?

Are you thankful even in the midst of hardship, trials, difficulty, adversity and less than desirable circumstances that happen in life?

What if the opposite of being thankful, was not just being unthankful, but was a sign of idolatry? Is there possible idolatry in our heart such as materialism, greed, covetousness, pride, self regard and promotion?

How do we ensure an attitude and life of thankfulness, and not idolatry...thus moving away from its evil and destructive grips...manifesting a life of Christ likeness that has an eternal focus?

What effect does that have on our life?

ALCOHOL...one of the most highly used and abused drugs in our society.

Any major event or venue in our in culture is expected to have alcohol present and available...it was just deemed essential by our society during the height of a pandemic where the ABC Store remained open while other businesses were commanded to close, even churches.

Nothing affects people’s lives across the spectrum (marriage and relationships, mental and physical health, employment, etc) like drugs and alcohol. Over the last 20-30 years, and especially in the last 1 1/2 years during the pandemic, alcohol consumption has increased in society and in the church.

So what does the Bible have to say regarding this issue? Is this a “grey” area in scripture, so therefore relative truth can take precedent?...or is there absolute truth from God’s word that can anchor us and guide us in all of our choices and decisions regarding alcohol consumption?

God is not the author of confusion and would not “leave us hanging” on such an issue that potentially causes so much harm in society and the enemy uses to destroy people’s lives.

Many people have opinions and feelings on the subject...but we know opinions and feelings don’t matter...only truth from God’s word does...so, with no opinions, legalism, or false narratives of man...what DOES the Bible have to say? WHO CAN TAME THE TONGUE?

Is the old saying, “Sticks and stones can break my bones but words will never hurt me”, a truthful saying? Or can our words hurt others, and even ourselves, scarring us and others for life?

We live in a world where the words from the tongue of people are used to hurt others, gossip, slander, lie, tell coarse jokes, curse...we hear it at work, on TV, in locker rooms, in music...it’s everywhere we go. So, how are followers of Christ to speak?

Does the Bible have anything to say about how we speak and use our tongues as believers?...many people do not know.

Do the words we say matter to God?

DOES THE BIBLE ADDRESS ABORTION?

Where should a Christian stand on the issue of abortion?...is this an issue that has flexibility for relative truth and varying beliefs in the church?...or is this an issue of absolute truth from scripture?

Is this really a social issue?...political issue?...or is this a theological and moral issue?

EVER HAD SOMETHING STOLEN FROM YOU? How did it make you feel? If someone was planning to steal something from you, your family, or your friends...wouldn’t you want to expose them so they would not succeed?

There is a “thief” on the loose, and he is stealing people’s identities in various ways, causing a lot of pain and harm to individuals, families and society.

WHO ARE YOU?... Male or Female?...does this even matter?... Is this decision up to you, your feelings, your psychology?...or is this something that is hard-wired in by your creator by design for a greater cause and purpose in your life?

What does the Bible say about this?

At the core of your existence and life here on earth is the concept of who you are! You were created with specificity and uniqueness, with a plan and purpose to accomplish something greater than yourself that God wants to do through you...don’t let the enemy come and steal that design and destroy who God has created you to be!

HOMOSEXUALITY... if Jesus were walking the earth now, as he did during New Testament times, when he so often talked to the disciples and the culture, teaching them all things...what would he say on this subject?

How can we as the church, speak the truth in love on this subject? How do we respond and share God's truth to friends and family members who are in support of or are living in this lifestyle, and bring light to the topic without heat?

THE BIBLE REFERS TO OUR BODIES AS “ THE TEMPLE” OF GOD...what does that mean? What is the context of this application and why is it important?

We are continuing our sermon series this week called “ Counter Culture” and we are taking a specific look the next 2 weeks at the expectations of sexual purity in God's word and in our culture...there is a huge difference! Who do you follow? Many would say God understands the culture and time we live in now and it is okay when we “give in”? Is that true? Can we have our sin and Jesus too? What does the Bible say?

Does God really expect us to honor him with our bodies?, especially those who call themselves Christ-followers?

One of the best ways we can resist our enemy that seeks to destroy, and in turn, honor God with the lives and bodies he has given us, is to live a life of sexual purity...even in the midst of living in the most sexually charged culture in history!
