100 & Beyond Anti-Bullying Campaign - Post Pandemic Plan 

Bullying is becoming an epidemic in America, and social media has helped catapult it to an astronomical level where parents, educators, and those in a position to help do not know what to do. Studies show that half of workplace bullying and 40 percent of school bullying will go unreported. Bullying means a single significant act or a pattern of acts by one or more students directed at another student that exploits an imbalance of power and involves engaging in written or verbal expression, expression through electronic means, or physical conduct of a person or group. Bullying is aggressive behavior that negatively affects adolescents' academic, social, emotional, and psychological development. Bullying is often times a repeated frequently is, intentional and harmful behavior' of one or more students against weaker students. The victims of bullying can typically go from powerlessness and anxiety to isolation and physical ailments. The consequences of bullying can run a wide range of difficulties. Nevertheless, knowing how family members might be affected can help reduce the overall impact of bullying.

Curriculum Self-Awareness – of HBCUs.

In 2018, nearly one-third of African American students lived in poverty (32%), compared with 10% of white students in families living in poverty. The percentage of African American students who lived in households where the highest level of education attained by either parent was a bachelor’s or higher degree was 27%, compared with 69% of Asian students and 53% of white students. Fighting for the rights of African Americans led many abolitionists also to begin fighting for women's rights, which led to the women's rights movement. One of the ways we can continue to fight is by focusing on curriculum self-awareness in HBCUs. Improving Self-Awareness in the curriculum is more than just developing an understanding of African American's emotions and feelings. It is an awareness of the physical, emotional, and psychological self, which is vital to improving each student's cognitive and learning styles.

Nina Taylor: Who are some of the black women educators that one should admire and why?

Nina Taylor: This is a global question-Why should HBCUs focus more on the barriers to girls' education? Some obstacles are social: profoundly ingrained gender bias against educating girls, and others are related to support systems for teen motherhood?

Nina Taylor: How can HBCUs curriculum help improve their students' relationships locally, state, and societally for a more fulfilling life?

How organizational leaders should navigate internal sabotage within a company is a question that has been asked from ancient times until now? It is recommended that organizations should strive to engage in an "optimal level" of co-opetition.

Social Skills needed to make Intelligent Choices

There have been considerable times when we have taught children to say "No!" to friends who engage in behavior we do not like that causes harm or embarrassment. Some young people choose to maintain friendships at the expense of their core values and ethics. Raising teens includes helping them develop the skills to be clear about their values while still interacting with people who may have differing ones. We want our children to have expressive and healthy relationships in personal and school settings throughout their education.

Are you attending an HBCU next year? 

Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) were established prior to 1964 with the principal mission of educating Black Americans. These institutions were founded and developed in an environment of legal segregation and, by providing access to higher education, they contributed substantially to the progress Black Americans made in improving their status. Analysts are projecting four top HBCUs for 2022. 

Spelman College: Located in Atlanta, Spelman College is a small private, not-for-profit institution providing a liberal arts education to women. Spelman is not only one of the best HBCUs in the country, but it was also ranked as the #3 school in the Students’ Top Schools for Inspiration list by The Wall Street Journal. It is an excellent fit for students looking for a small campus and an equally small student-to-faculty ratio (11:1). 

Howard University is one of the oldest and best-known HBCUs. Founded in 1867, the school is a historically black college but accepts students of all races and genders to create a full student body of over 10,000 in the heart of Washington, D.C. Howard University is a good fit for post-graduates and anyone looking to continue their academic career beyond their four-year degree because the university produces more black doctorate recipients than any other nonprofit institution. The business school has also been ranked in the top spot of the schools for opportunities for minority students by the Princeton Review. 

Morehouse College is arguably the most famous HBC; Morehouse College was the academic home of Civil Rights hero and legendary activist Dr. Martin Luther King Jr as well as many other civil rights leaders. It is also one of only two HBCUs to produce Rhodes Scholars. Morehouse has an enrollment of over 2,000 students, making it the most prominent men's college in the United States. The small student body allows for an impressive student-faculty ratio of 13:1. Though it is a small college, Morehouse and Spelman College are part of the Atlanta University Center, ensuring access to wider shared resources. 

Hampton University is Based in Hampton, Virginia. This school offers a smalltown experience with a good size student body of over 4,000. The student-faculty ratio reflects both the small size of the school at 19:1. Although it is small, there is plenty of opportunity for high-level sports: Hampton is home to both NCAA Division I and II sports teams.

“Enough, We are Tired” Part Four

The influence of American culture continues to decline in that the United States is diminishing in power geopolitically, militarily, financially, economically, socially, and in matters of healthcare. As leaders, our single most important role is to be a zealous advocate for education. We must help reinforce the idea that all citizens must be educated to have a free, democratic society. All children should have access to effective educators and continuous opportunities to learn and improve. As I ponder these notions, I am reminded of the movers and shakers who March on Washington (1963): To encourage support of the passage of the Civil Rights Act in Congress, Martin Luther King organized a March on Washington. More than 200,000 people from across the country gathered to listen to speeches from King and others. King's most famous "I Have a Dream" speech was delivered there. Other names like Rosa Parks, Daisy Bates, George Raymond, Frankie Muse Freeman, Fannie Lou Hamer, Marie Foster, and Humberto "Bert" Corona led a nationwide civil rights movement that reshaped America’s Culture.

Education is healthy for the soul. However, helping students find support systems are vital for their souls and adolescent development. So we are dealt with teaching the whole child—this is why anti-bullying techniques are so important. Not only does bullying at school affect students' emotional and social lives, but it also directly affects their schoolwork and engagement in the classroom, suggests a U.S. study. Researchers found that students who faced bullying for much of their time in school had the most significant risk of low achievement and engagement. Furthermore, kids who were victimized only in earlier years showed gains in self-esteem, school performance, and how much they liked school after bullying. "Nationally, there have been high-profile suicides and school districts trying to implement bully prevention programs," Moving forward, teachers, parents, school administrators, and anyone who knows a school-age kid should understand the side-effects to victims of bullying.
