Many people, and I can and have been guilty of this, seem to think in absolute terms. Oh, this is wrong, this is right. While this is admirable, I will show you that using a different system to deal with, and label reality is easier, and more accurate for you and others. This is because polarities like good, bad, accurate, inaccurate, while useful, are only half the picture. For instance, you hear someone on the radio saying something you know to be wrong in your mind. How wrong is it? 80 percent? More? Less? Using percentages instead of absolute statements is how you can get closer to your truth, and how to find out your own motivations, feelings, and opinions, and finding what is right in what others say and adding it to what you already know. This also applies to things you do as well. Many, as I've just demonstrated think in statements of absolutes, and this is no different with doing things as well. For instance, you hear a technique that says share your feelings, and thoughts to others. Your immediate reaction could be, but that's insane, no one would like me if I shared my thoughts and feelings all of the time. But no one, or very few say that you should share your thoughts and feelings all of the time, only when you feel appropriate, or when you know your reaction will not be to strong. For instance, if someone annoys you, you may think wow, this person's an asshole. It may not be a good idea to share your thought and feeling of that person at that time. Disgression is a necessary process here. Also, most tend to think in terms of blanket goals. For instance, I am going to meditate for a year. Instead of doing that, or similarly openended statements like this, say, I am going to meditate now. I will try, or will meditate later, and you can pick a time for that if you wish. This frees your mind of excess worry and strain.
