  • EP 164 How to Worship Part 1 06-25

Are you tired of the music wars in churches? Of what value are they? In this message, Dr. Betters turns our attention to something far more eternal and states, “I want my children and my grandchildren to learn that the worship of God must never be approached casually and that true worship is the non-negotiable essence of their spiritual development in their relationship to God.” What is the heart of worship? In this three-part series, we learn that the ninety-fifth Psalm is one of a series of psalms which the Israelites sang together as they went up to the temple in Jerusalem to worship. This is a liturgical prophecy Psalm that starts with a call to worship sung outside the sanctuary, followed by acts of praise inside the sanctuary and then ends with a prophetic warning. This series of worship hymns and instructions begins with the ninety-third Psalm and concludes with the one hundredth Psalm. Each of these is a demonstration and exhortation on how to worship. Worship is more than ritual. It is a relationship that we must pass on to our children and grandchildren.

  • EP 163 The Cause and the Cure for Doubt Part 2 06-23

Dr. Betters assures us that God is not afraid of our questions but the antidote for doubt is in looking back at the facts of our faith, events that cannot be erased from history. We see how focusing on what we do know about our God, that He kept the promise of our Messiah, encourages us to trust Him now, when life throws us a curve. Where do you turn when life throws you a curve, or crashes in a way that seems impossible to process? The Psalmist runs to his God and demonstrates that doubt is not a sign of weak faith, but can often be a place of great growing in intimacy with our God. Join Dr. Betters as he wraps up this two-part message on the Cause and Cure for Doubt. The focus on sound doctrine and its importance in our life journey will equip you to walk by faith when the lights in your own life go out.

  • EP 162 The Cause and the Cure for Doubt Part 1 06-21

Is doubt a sin? Does God frown on us when we question His goodness or purposes? Dr. Betters says that he wants his children and grandchildren to learn that doubt is an integral part of faith building and that they must honestly and openly confront such doubts, but only in a Biblical way. In this message, the listener will see that God is not afraid of our questions and that the Psalms, especially Psalm 77, offer exquisite comfort to those of us who are shocked and hurt when disappointments enter our lives. In the 77th Psalm we have a report of a man who almost lost his faith, but who found his way back eventually to greater faith and trust in God than ever before. He tells us just how he did it. This message will not only comfort the doubter, but equip the believer for those times when the lights in our lives go out. The opening verses of this 77th Psalm record for us the emotional distress the psalmist experienced when he faced a very troublesome problem in his life. He was heading toward a total loss of faith but he cries out to God, pouring out his heartache and anguish. How does he get to a point of resting and trusting God once more? How do we? In today’s message, Dr. Betters assures the believer that God is not afraid of our doubts and in fact, such doubts can lead us into deeper intimacy with our God.

  • EP 161 When God Hides Part 2 06-19

In the sermon When God Hides, Dr. Betters states that he wants his children and grandchildren to learn that life is not always fair and there will be people who mean them harm. But our God who, although at times seems distant, is keeping score and will weigh all matters in the balance. Psalm 10 frames the question we all ask when such unfair things happen, “Where is God?” We learn this is not a blasphemous question, driven by pain that is magnified when we think God is absent. If you or someone you love is asking this honest question in response to the broken places of life, this message will encourage you to experience God’s love in a new way.
