  • Episode 37 - Getting Cozy

This episode we decided to take a step back from the heavy stuff and read something a bit more comfy-cozy. Kristia accidently re-read a book that Rachael recommended so we've got a lot to talk about. It's got classism, princesses, rebel attacks, and a fight for the Prince's heart. Rachael went truly cozy with a classic murder mystery. Does the main character own a bakery, a coffee shop, maybe an antique store? And can she solve the murder before the police? Listen in to find out!

  • Three Mini Spook Spook

Spook season is coming to an end and here is our final mini spook of the season. We saved a great one for last! It's the first (and possibly only) book we'll ever tell you to watch the movie before reading. Or live on the edge and read it first, we aren't your mom.

All the classics are there: witches, talking animals, glorious mornings, black flame candles, and virgins, oh my! But that's not all! There's even a sequel we didn't know we didn't need. We read it so you don't have to and we can confirm it's just a bunch of hocus pocus.

There's hidden staircases, evil townspeople, books nailed to trees, and creepy childhood drawings where they shouldn't be. Grab your favorite pumpkin treat, get cozy, and listen to Kristia struggle to say Leather Apron.

It's our favorite time of year and mini episodes are back! One that note we're reading some good spooky, creepy, murdery, or just Halloweeny books this month. Rachael is up first with a quick Audible Original about a 15 year old murder. It's just terribly unfortunate when a body washes up from the Florida Keys and buries itself in a grave.

  • Episode 32 - YA We Read Banned Books

Banned Book Week starts on the 27th this year, to celebrate we're talking about two recent books that have been challenged and banned multiple times. Rachael's book was published in 2007, and was the most challenged book of 2017. The book is centered around suicide, so we understand why people may think it glorified suicide, but we believe it's too important of a story to banned.

Suicide TW: If you want to skip this book, start at 33:00

Kristia's book was published in 2017 and spent the first two years in the top ten banned books. It's often challenged and banned due to it's "vulgar language," "racially-insensitive language," and for "being anti-police." This story is also too important to be banned, these books should be read and discussed by students so they can gain a better understanding of these tough topics.

    Books Discussed:

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
