There are so many lessons to draw from Genesis 20, but our focus will be on verse 6. Here's Abraham and his wife moved to Gerar, a pagan land located into the region of the Negev. At this point, Abram's name is changed to Abraham and Sarai is named Sarah. God has made Abraham father of many nations, and promised Abraham a child through Sarah, his wife.
We also know, at this point, God has established His covenant as an everlasting covenant between Him and Abraham and his descendants after him for the generations to come, to be Abraham's God and the God of his descendants (Genesis 17:7). Abraham confirmed that covenant with God when he and all male in his household underwent circumcision.
Things were going well for Abraham, yet, when he got to Gerar, he convinced his wife to lie to the people of that land about their relationship. The king of the land, Abimelech, took Sarah with an intention of making her, his wife. I mean, the lady was 90+ years old. How wicked can a man be to be attracted to a 90 years old lady? Not only that, also, he had plenty of wives already. And, the woman had passed a child bearing age. Nothing makes sense except sin.
Genesis 20:6 reads, Then God said to him in the dream, “Yes, I know that in the integrity of your heart you have done this, and I also kept you from sinning against Me; therefore I did not let you touch her."
These things were written to us for our instruction (1 Corinthians 10:11). So, in this episode, we will discuss how we should respond to this verse. I pray this lesson will uplift our prayer life and ascribe glory to God in our christian walk.
1. How would the world be if God did not restrain sins?
2. How would my life looks like If I was left to sin anyhow I wanted?
3. Why doesn't God restrain all sins then?
4. How should I respond from what I learned today?
