In the Cab with Dream Queen

My friends and fellow radio hosts Hawt Diggity & Little Queen Trash Mouth join me to talk about Palantir’s broad launch of Gideon: an AI threat detection software reserved exclusively for American law enforcement. On his website, Peter Thiel said it “…signals the entry into an era of algorithmic pre-crime policing.” Starting this week the software will scour websites including Reddit, Discord, gaming sites, “fringe blogs” and others 24/7 as a means of “threat detection.” It will flag certain language and sentiment among U.S. citizens and report to law enforcement. The room gets hot and giggly. We fit the description ya'll, catch us while you can. We also talk about Gavin Newsom’s new MAGA-like merch and troll line.

Lilly Whiteswan is known by many in the village of Madrid, New Mexico as a traditional healer, spirit worker, actor, poet, singer/songwriter and loving mother figure. I have been curious to learn her story and hear tell of her deeds first hand, as most of what I know of Lilly’s work has been from the people she’s helped. We've interacted many times, but never sat down for an in-depth talk. This week we finally take the opportunity and invite you in. Lilly shares with me how she got her name, her spiritual seeker journey from Methodist youth minister to coven Witch to Curandera, the time she died during transdimensional travel, and how Love and management of the chaos within ourselves will help us change the world without. She also graces us with an original song. I really had nothing to offer. This one is Lilly’s show. It’s a treasure. Tune in.

Bad DJ joins me for a conversation inspired by a life’s journey toward restorative relationships. She weaves together her life experiences and bell hooks’s book “Communion: The Female Search for Love.” Bad DJ says this book is good learning no matter what one’s gender identity. We discuss restorative versus punitive relations, the “multiplicity of self,” how abuse in the home manifests in our larger societal structure, managing individual trauma so as not to perpetuate it, a commitment to love and kindness, and of course a bit of metaphysical chit-chat about the nature of the Mind and science’s pursuit of God. Michael and Travis join me for a casual chat. Topics include the metaphor of life as a stew and evolution involving cultivating the ingredients; how we mirror potential and care vibrations; which “likes” matter; decolonizing as we collect from the past to move forward. I also touch on the new ITC Book Club selection: “Mutual Aid: Building Solidarity During This Crisis (and the Next)” by Dean Spade.

Documentarian Wendy Young (www.wendyyoung.net) and her daughter, my cohort, DJ Little Queen Trash Mouth (host, “Hatch Attack Hours”, KMRD-LP Fridays 10a-12p) join me to talk about the history and present day manifestation of White Nationalism in the U.S. Wendy has done extensive documentary work on the subject, and both Wendy and LQTM grew up in the American South. We discuss the “Long Slow Surrender,” Confederate monuments and flags, internalized racist programming, the “paradox of tolerance,” the movie “Sinners”, and our vision for the future. I appreciate the levity and grace in our approach to difficult subjects. Please join us for an educational and fun story exchange.

In this episode we close our book club conversation about Kahlil Gibran’s “The Prophet.” Travis and I read the final chapter, “The Farewell” in its entirety. It’s a bit of an emotional sendoff. Al Mustafa says to the people: “We are the seeds of the tenacious plant, and it is in our ripeness and our fullness of heart that we are given to the wind and are scattered… I go with the wind, people of Orphalese, but not down into emptiness; And if this day is not a fulfilment of your needs and my love, then let it be a promise till another day.”

We continue our analysis of “The Farewell,” the final chapter in Kahlil Gibran’s “The Prophet.” “We wanderers, ever seeking the lonelier way, begin no day where we have ended another day; and no sunrise finds us where sunset left us. Even while the earth sleeps we travel.” Kelly Ann returns to unpack this quote and talk more about dreams, death, the soul’s journey, interconnectedness, these tryin’ times and more. Kelly Ann is host of “Midnight Ideas,” which airs Monday evenings 7-8pm MT on KMRD.fm

On this Juneteenth I asked Travis to join me to share more about his experience as a White man in Jamaica, and he provides. Authenticity, cooperation, mutual respect and shared values were key, as much as a love of the music and culture. “Food, clothes and shelter got no politics,” is a line from Mutabaruka’s song “Any Which Way… Freedom.” Another inspiring story-time conversation. Join us.

***NOTE*** In the unedited version of this broadcast, Travis reboots “T’s Takeover” with roots reggae selections from Peter Tosh, Bob Marley, Mutabaruka, Breeze, & Damian Marley.
