This week Dave and I realized that although we touch on therapy in every episode, we never really level-set what that looks like for us. As long as you can sit through my many digressions, you may get something out of it! It’s wild to think that we’re already on our 25th podcast and haven’t run out of things to say to each other. To quantify that: if you put Dave and I in a room together for a day and made us talk to each other the entire time, we would definitely end up either fighting or screwing or maybe both. Maybe that’s a terrible way to quantify that, but it’s nice to acknowledge milestones like the 25th episode of a project where we set out to let dudes know that no one has it all together and how we cope with not having it all together.

Having said all of that, this week we’re discussing Trauma! What it is, how it can manifest, how it can be treated and the degree of trauma I would experience if Dave did an entire episode in an old-timey radio voice. So buckle up because this one is a bit heavier than Episode 24.

This week Dave and I see if we remember how to do the truffle shuffle while flying on the back of a luck dragon. Let me rephrase that: Dave and I do some reflecting while looking back at movies we watched as kids and discuss how our change in perspective has altered the way the movie hits. Hopefully it’ll inspire you to go back and take a look at the films of your youth and realize how completely f’d they were!

Happy Monday! Yeah, it looks like you guys prefer us on Mondays, or if you’re anything like me, don’t have as many podcasts to listen to on Mondays. This week we have an interesting conversation with Alicia Laszewski from Kind Ethos about “mobbing”. Don’t worry, I didn’t know what it was either, but it’s definitely one of those things that you’ve known about your whole life that didn’t have a name. I’m sure there’s an all-encapsulating German word for it.

USA! USA! “Mobbing” is definitely a better word than “Bossing”.

Anyway, this doesn’t just happen in the workplace, and most likely you’ve experienced it in your personal or academic life. So take a listen, because a lot of this may hit close to home and now we have a word for it.

This week Dave and I sit down and riff on the concept of the “3rd place”, the place that isn’t your home or workplace where you like to spend your spare time. As we discover, it can be anything from a coffee shop to a strip club - as long as you feel like you can relax and be yourself there, it’s a candidate for your 3rd place. With the diminishing of the social club and continuing digitization of the town square, it is now very crucial for a guy (or a lady) to find somewhere to hang out, get to know folks outside of your inner social circle and not think about the stressors that are ever-present in our day-to-day lives.

In this episode we go on location to Dave’s house to discuss the positive effects of non-destructive hobbies on your mental health. I say non-destructive because if you’re a Dahmer or Epstein, your hobbies are probably not good for anyone - I mean, even O.J played golf to unwind…So yeah, we discuss how a good non-destructive hobby like playing an instrument, playing a sport, doing crossword puzzles or even playing video games can bolster your mental health, and how. We also discuss why men seem to not find time for their hobbies and what they can do to carve out that time.

Crucially, you’ll find out where I was last week that I couldn’t post this and marvel as Dave discusses his vacation that he’s currently on and why there probably won’t be an episode next week.

Yes….This is Dave and I was in Alaska (and Canada for a little bit)! My hobbies on the trip included "peopling”, eating, exploring, working out and basking in the cold weather (I live in South Florida where the lows are usually in the high 80’s this time of year).
