Some of us are all perfectionists who, failing perfection, have gone to the other extreme and settled for the bottle and the blackout. At times we wallowed in extreme emotionalism and had mistaken it for true religious feeling. This self-centered behavior blocked us from forming a true partnership with our fellow man. Overcome your self-will run riot with Toby C. and prepare to transcend the dramatics that block happiness. Prepare to examine your own moral fiber and “soundness of mind.” Recover and heal – now.
Contempt prior to investigation. Unfair judgment. Sound familiar? How true it is that today we live in a world of ignorance and misunderstanding. Those unfortunate of us have used this stupidity and its related compulsions of self-will to sacrifice others on the “alter of intolerance.” Come engage with Toby C. in one last argument, asserting principals, spiritual in their nature, as a bar against all this blindness that we use as an instrument for our own destruction.
King Baby… It took a lot of hard knocks, hammered out on the anvils of experience that we finally come to a place where we can grow and mature. We stood at the jumping off point - either we grow along spiritual lines or die. Come grow up with Toby C. and prepare yourself for an experience you must not miss! Imagine paying attention to the suffering and watch them recover, to watch them help others, to witness their loneliness vanish and to finally have an abundance of fellowship and friends. Imagine that you had a part in that miracle! Your distorted drives have now been restored to their true purpose and direction.
And as we grow spiritually, we find that our old attitudes toward our instincts need to undergo drastic revisions. Did you know that nearly every serious emotional problem can be seen as a case of misdirected instinct? Come join Toby C. and stop working against your deepest instincts. Imagine a state of calm within you – an overwhelming sense that everything is going to work out. Be prepared to surrender to a faith that will allow you to cave into the concept of personal powerlessness. You are now ready to transcend self-destruction and harmonize with your instinctive desire for self-preservation.
How are we going to feel today? This feeling of being at one with God and man or this feeling of loneliness deep in the bitter morass of self-pity? What is our choice going to be? Change your attitude and recover with Toby C. - simple but it’s not easy! For many of us, it happens at or near the “bottom.” During our most desperate moments we become as open minded to conviction and willing to listen as only the dying can be. We are prepared to let serenity enter us by calmly opening ourselves up to the light of reason. We can now experience the physic change of an immediate and overwhelming "God-consciousness" followed at once by a vast change in feeling and outlook.
It’s probably clear by now that our neurotic lives have been driven by hysterical thinking or advice. This fear was the chief activator of our obsessions and worries and threw us into a self-centered panic. A raging inferno of lonely terror that nothing could extinguish. In desperation, we drowned these phobias with alcohol and other indulgences only to get really burned! Come cool off with Toby C. and dip into a realm of peace, contentment, and gratitude. “I think I can tell you exactly how to relax. You won’t have to work at it very hard, either.” The nightmare is almost over.
An identity crisis driven by low self-esteem can turn a neurotic into a perfectionist. This intolerance drive us blindly making us willfully demand that others supply us with more satisfactions or pleasures than are possible or due us. Step out of the circus for a moment with Toby C. and get ready to give yourself a break. Come to a point in your insecurities, with the help of others, where you can recognize the perfection of God and be able to raise your eyes to, and be able to walk, in that direction. Give yourself a break and stop playing God.
Psychiatrists and psychologists point out the deep need every human being has for practical insight and knowledge of one’s own personality flaws. Examine with Toby C. why so many in recovery, who obtain a profound wisdom of themselves and others, cannot stay sober. Lest we use this knowledge to win over the entire confidence of another sufferer within a few hours, very little if anything can be accomplished. Sobriety is fitting ourselves and applying ourselves to work with others. Are you really sober or are you doing just the bare bones minimum to elude your deadly obsessions? Are you really happy? You decide!
There is an ambush predator lurking in the dark corners of our soul. It’s called FEAR and our entire existence to some extent is shot through with it. Sometimes we react with an unruly sense of urgency – it’s called DESPERATION. Left unchecked, this fear will make your life and everyone around you miserable. Come engage with Toby C. on an adventure into open-mindedness in order to develop something called balance. That image that soon, your neurotic hysteria will cease, and your subconscious spirit will calm and continue to heal.
The name of the game is to stay away from shame. Criticism from others is quite often the source of that dreadful and hopeless degrading judgement. Challenge Toby C. as to why, in the midst of our instinctual drives for more security or love than is due to us, we step on the toes of others and they retaliate. Sometimes we unwittingly set ourselves up. In 12-Step recovery, when we clean house and calm down, many of us discover that those who mistreat us were often irritable, restless and discontent, too. Love and tolerance of others is our code.
