Who we can be draft versions of ourselves with?

Having a beginner’s mindset, and how challenging it is to be playful without expectation

Can we learn to be ok feeling embarrassed, or is the goal to not feel embarrassment at all? (Either by being so good, or genuinely not caring what others appraise you as?)

Being envious of naïve people (i.e. those who think they are good but are actually bad). How are some people unphased by this? Why do we experience second hand embarrassment on their behalf?

What do we wish for our kids when it comes to avoiding embarrassment? How do we model safety in trying?

Whose ‘eyes’ do we trust? Who can we soften into being a learner with? When we need clearly defined roles of ‘teacher’ vs. ‘student’ and seek the safety of an authentic leader but reject those who are not capable of providing real guidance.

February 13, 2024The Art of Becoming Ourselves with Greg Alsop
Greg Alsop is the producer of In This New Season (and Kailea’s husband!). He has been the drummer of Tokyo Police Club since the band was formed in 2005. TPC has released 9 Top 20 Singles, received 3 Juno Nominations, and recently announced their farewell tour happening later this year. Greg has recently been signed by Spectra Creative Agency as a composer for kid’s television and movies. He has written songs for DreamWorks Animation, AppleTV+ and Nickelodeon.
In this conversation, Kailea and Greg explore:
Greg’s 20-year career with Tokyo Police Club, starting from what it was like to leave university for the band, the climb to fame, and what it feels like to be leaving the only job he’s ever had.

Greg and Kailea’s relationship path and how Kailea’s year at Harvard was one of Greg’s most challenging - where he experienced depression and loneliness.

How Greg’s identity was shaped by experiencing rapid success at a young age. With the band, all risk was shared – now he has more ownership over his work and this comes with greater pressures (yet the potential for greater fulfillment).

How Greg is creating success for himself on terms he can control (whereas his path to success with the band felt like a wild, uncontrollable dream).

How Greg is navigating starting a new career as a composer and all the fear, self-doubt and insecurity that comes along with it.

January 16, 2024Burnout: Why Does This Keep Happening to Me?
Britt Gaudio repeatedly finds herself in high-intensity roles where she feels overworked, unsafe, and ultimately burns out. With an incredible capacity to handle stress and turn dysfunctional chaos into efficient, effective systems, Britt has made a career as an Operations Executive in the GTA. She has observed a pattern in herself of leaving unhealthy environments, only to find herself back in another one. In this episode, she explores this pattern in herself and what she can do to change the cycle.
Exploring Kailea and Britt’s shared experience working for a non-profit in Toronto – both the incredible opportunities they were given, and the lasting effects of working in a burnout culture at an impressionable age.

How can we have enough confidence to say “this is too much for me” when your work culture breeds fear of being inadequate, lazy, or not pulling your weight?

If company leaders don’t set limits to protect us, how do we protect ourselves? What makes it challenging to say, “this is my limit” or “this is what I need”? Why do we tend to say, “the problem must be me” vs. trusting that our needs are valid?

What childhood patterns make us more susceptible to this and what happens when people repeatedly value our ability to “get the job done, period?” Exploring the benefits of having high frustration tolerance, while also examining how it puts us at high risk for overworking/burnout.

Bonny Scott is an Adult Child Relationship Coach. She specializes in working with moms to create a healthy, meaningful connection with their adult child after struggling with a strained or broken relationship. This is an incredibly eye-opening, vulnerable, and insightful conversation that millennials and baby boomers alike can gain a lot from. It left Kailea in tears and gratitude.
