21 January happens to be the birthday of one of my all-time favorite comedians, Alfred Hawthorne Hill aka Benny Hill so I thought it would be fitting to do a tribute. I have very fond memories of watching his show as a youngin and just laughing my ass off and the lingerie wearing ladies were a nice bonus ;) . His style of comedy definitely hit the mark for me back then and I did a quick rewatch of a few episodes and to me, they still hold up. Slapstick and physical comedy is a very difficult style to keep funny, and the master Benny has a 40+ year career of outstanding performances in both music and TV shows. I had the extreme honor to spend an evening with some pretty fun folks on one of my trips to Denver. I was searching for a dispensary that carried a specific strain of CBD Flower and found it at a dispensary called Rollup located at 4500 Washington St., Denver, CO 80216. The budtender there, Calo, was very helpful in filling my order. In our exchange, I invited him to the podcast and he over-delivered by setting up a fantastic group of individuals that really know their business. I was so impressed with not only their knowledge of their industry but also their dedication to each other. To be able to find a job in an industry that you like is very rare these days but it's good to see folks when they do find that rare opportunity to work at something they love every day.

As is the case now in the USA, the end of the year is time to choose your health insurance provider. If you participate in the Healthcare Marketplace as established by the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in 2010 open enrollment starts in November and ends on December 15. If you've been through this ordeal then I hope it was easier than my experience. After multiple phone calls and website visits, I have come to the conclusion that some things are made overly complicated on purpose. If people cannot understand something they tend to ignore it. And I think our colossal failure as a society to establish health care as a right and not a privilege is one of those issues. I have heard conservatives use an example of too many people in the boat and someones has to get thrown into the ocean scenario so many times in the past referring to socialized medicine. But that's exactly what our health care system has turned into now with profits being the determining factor. If the health insurance premiums cost as much as your rent or mortgage then I think there is a problem. Especially considering that the $1,300 monthly premium amount is for a health care plan that doesn't cover anything until you've paid the $8,500/$17,100 deductible. $15,600 in total annual premium and I still have to pay out of my own pocket up to $17,100 before my health insurance kicks in?!? This is insane.

I have tried to make this all as entertaining as possible. It is a boring subject but as mentioned above I think we have all ignored this for too long. People get sick. People get hurt. Our civilization has advanced to a place where so many physical ailments can be remedied but only if you can afford it. This seems very uncivilized to me. What do you think? Mountain climbing and trail hiking can be a very fulfilling way to spend a weekend. If there are not any mountains in your area, you can still get close to nature in a local hiking trail or neighborhood park. Enjoy some fresh air and listen to what nature has to share with you.

Lastly, the commotion that occurred at the federal capital on Jan. 6, 2021, was from what I have seen a coordinated and sanctioned demonstration that does more to widen the divide in this country than heal its wounds. Sadly, I think more division is on the horizon.

A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief - A powerful song of hope - Happy 2021! Have you ever been so glad to get through something that you felt this release once it was through? That's kinda where I am with 2020. Glad to move on. Don't get me wrong, I didn't have it nearly as bad as some. I had planned ahead a little and had some savings but we are not in danger of losing our home or wondering where our next meal is coming from. And that hits one of today's topics - the homeless and those living on the streets. I did find this article about a new camping area that just opened in December in Denver.
