Small Town by John Mellencamp - This song has always given me a warm feeling, like riding in the back of a pickup truck slow through the downtown square on a sunny day waving at the folks walking by. Kids playing in the park and the smell of BBQ cooking on a grill. And look, there's a farmers market set up! Booths and tables full of baked goods, handmade crafts, and jar after jar of salsas and pickled everything. The most vibrant vegetables and fruits, all in the peak of freshness and flavor. There are so many things I love about a farmer's market.

So I was visiting our local farmers market and meet some really amazing people that are doing so pretty incredible things. I was inspired to interview a few of these up-and-coming entrepreneurs. Our story begins with Tim, the manager of the Garland Farmers Market at Firewheel. We talk about the origin of the market, some of the great vendors that offer their specialties, and some pretty amazing products that Tim has to offer. I have a passion for local artists, crafters, and designers of culinary delights. Our communities can really be strengthened and unified through these markets and events. I hope you enjoy these interviews and maybe get inspired to give that idea of yours a try.

In this movie, a young and kinda goofy looking guy is determined to become a great singer. He doesn't have the support of his family because they think he is wasting his time. When he 1st asks to sing for a band he likes they laugh at him. But this guy was determined. He was committed to his dream. And he didn't take no for an answer or let others frame his reality. The evidence of his success speaks for itself. All I'm saying is that we are surrounded by story after story of people overcoming seemingly overwhelming odds yet we continue to play it safe and just get by. I am not saying that if you think something hard enough it will become reality but if you are in a bad situation and want something to change it has to start with you. You really can do anything you put your mind too you just have to see the chains that you allow to bind you and decide you've been chained up for long enough. Now break free and start moving. No one can stop you now!

But for the purposes of this episode, it relates to the movie that I highly recommend called "Warrior" starring Tom Hardy, Nick Nolte, and Joel Edgerton. I do not recommend you watch the trailer for this movie. I did not and I feel like it was way more effective the less I knew about the movie. Mixed Martial arts fighting is a major part of the plot so if you are averse to watching two men beat the crap outta each other proceed with caution. The dynamic between the three main characters, Paddy, played by Nick Nolte, as the recovering abusive alcoholic the trained his youngest son Tommy, played by Tom Hardy, as a fighter in his youth. Paddy's wife finally had enough of his abuse and leaves him with their oldest son Brendon, played by Joel Edgerton. Tommy goes on to the military and the three men are estranged from one another for many years. Check it out if you get a chance.

Let's face it, it's getting harder to stretch a dollar for most of us. So how in a time when people are losing their jobs and savings are corporations reporting record profits. Why is it that most of the entry-level workers in the United States are unable to earn enough to meet even the most basic of needs and are subsidized by the American taxpayers through government assistance? Yet corporations report record profits and the shareholders rejoice. But what about the ones that report to work every day, through bad weather, illness, transportation issues, a global pandemic, and living in scarcity? The ones too afraid to ask for time off to attend PTA meetings or their children's extracurricular activities because if they don't work they don't eat. "Get a second job," they are told by people that have never had to live in a life of scarcity not by choice but by design. We should be able to work to live not live to work. Life was meant to be lived and I don’t think working your life away for less than a basic living seems like the best way to spend it. And don't get me started on the homeless population on the rise. So grab your favorite snack or focus on the road while we discuss just a few of the issues facing our modern industrialized and digitized society.

Having been raised in a construction family and eventually pursuing a career in the electrical industry, I am not a stranger to unsafe work environments. 30 years ago when I was first starting out the construction industry, safety was not as high a priority as production. I recall being in so very sketchy situations but I was a very young and naive teenager with a go-get'em work ethic so I just did what everyone else was doing. Especially when deadlines were fast approaching, it seemed like safety was not even a consideration. But as the years passed the construction industry has made great advances in the prioritizing of the workers safety. Many companies have entire safety divisions and regular safety training with their employees. The problem becomes when management says one thing but expects the opposite. And that is still the case today and appears to be one of the issues with the Amazon warehouse in Alabama. While working conditions from the 1920s was much more hazardous to the workers, there are still working conditions today that may not be as dangerous a mining but still takes a toll on the workers physical, emotional, and mental conditions. Repetitive movements, lifting, stacking, sorting, extreme temperatures, exposure to the elements, and the list goes on.  

If you are experiencing unsafe conditions at your workplace, talk to your supervisor. Complaining to your fellow employees will mostly just frustrate you. So take it up with those that are in charge. If your direct supervisor doesn't seem too concerned, take it to his superior. If that doesn't work, check with your state employment agency. 

Here in Texas that is the TWC or Texas Workforce Commission. Every state should have one. 

And if the conditions are so bad and safety is blatantly ignored by your employer, contact OSHA. Your safety is important. Thank you for listening and make it a great day. Cheers.

Today is my Mother and her twin sisters birthday. My Mom graduated from this life in 2003 from Cancer. She had beaten it once before, but it came back for another round. She was a kind, caring, and creative lady. I often think about what she would be doing if she were here today. Probably creating crafts and visiting her grandchildren. She dedicated her life to raising and teaching children from toddlers to teenagers. I love you Mom.

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Today we have a spotlight episode for a cannabis dispensary in Denver called The Healing Treee. Hello Indecisivians,

I find myself more and more overwhelmed with the amount of our lives that are spent on the internet. Working online makes it especially easy to get stuck in a screen for hours on end. And with that, we must find ways to navigate the dangers that lurk by keeping up with an array of login and password information. And then you change computers and all your saved login information is on the old computer and you have to go through the forgotten login and password tango. And then one of the websites you frequent decide to do a complete overhaul of their website for whatever reason. This causes you to have to now take the time to learn the new website layout in order to continue to interact with that entity's website. 

I shudder to think of how much time we waste on such seemingly endless obstacles we must overcome every day. There must be an easier way. Join me as I express my love/hate for our everchanging digital world.
