Indecisive Podcast

Have you ever tried to make homemade fudge? It is a very challenging confection to not only attempt but to perfect. Most fudge is hard and crystalline. But once in a while, you find a fudge that is so smooth, it literally melts in your mouth. I found this much sought-after delicacy at, you guessed it, the Garland Farmers Market at Firewheel. Just when I thought I had tapped it out of interesting folks making extraordinary things, I meet John and Martha with a little candy shop called Batch Made in Heaven. So many unusual flavors of the smoothest fudge you will find around - banana split, sinful cherry delight, and slap yo mama, just to name a few. And they also have cashew toffee bites and pralines. And there is way more to these two than just candy. They started their entrepreneurial journey with a company called "Get Your Stuff." So join me as we talk trial and error and how to choose the next great flavor on this edition of the Indecisive Podcast.

Good day dear listeners, today we have a fun interview with Kizzy from The Confectionist Factory. The Confectionist Factory offers some of the most eye-catching and mouth-watering cupcakes, cheesecakes, mini-bunt cakes, fruit bowls, cakesicles, dipped strawberries, and the list goes on. Kizzy has been making confections for years and her creativity and passion show in every one of her delicious offerings. I was 1st tantalized by the Samoa mini-bunt cake. It was gooey with caramel and chocolate and accented with shredded coconut -Unbelievably fantastic! I ordered one of her pineapple fruit bowls that had strawberries, pineapple, and chunks of cheesecake and it was tremendous. And while your listening to Kizzy's amazing story, jump on over to The Confectionist Facebook page and place an order. Thank you for joining us on the Indecisive Podcast.

Have you taken a look at the salsa aisle at your local grocery store? There are so many choices it can be as overwhelming as trying to choose the right BBQ sauce to go with your chicken tenders. I think it's because here in Texas, salsa is one of the major food groups.  We consume an enormous amount of chips and salsa and the Dallas area is no slouch when it comes to the amount of Tex Mex food we make, order, and share. We love the stuff. Could you eat so much salsa that you would ever consider making it yourself? Most people would see this challenge as one they would rather pass on. If you've ever tried to make a new recipe then you know, it can be a messy and expensive undertaking.  But today we are visiting with the Graves family who owns and operates Lilo's Salsa out of the Wylie, TX area. Ms. Graves started making salsa out of a way to save money due to the massive amounts of salsa her family was eating every week. Crazy, right?!? But that's not all, she is not cutting any corners. Only fresh, in-season ingredients go into Lilo's Salsa. All 20+ varieties. And it is amazing. So grab your favorite chips and salsa and sit back for an interesting story of practicality leading to a growing salsa empire. Then check out their FB page for all the details of where to order or find them at the Garland Farmers Market at Firewheel every Saturday and some Sundays. They also feature at many other local events so get some today and try it out!

Stayin' Alive by The Bee Gees Official video https://youtu.be/I_izvAbhExY - Do you have a song that gets you in a great mood and feeling like you could do anything? The song that would play over the PA if you were a fighter entering the arena. THe herald that alerted everyone within earshot that you have arrived and are ready to get stuff done! What about any old ideas you got rattling around in your imagination? Any hobbies that you can really get into the zone when your working on them. Is it something that you could easily put into action because you've gone over it so many times in your head but just haven't had the 15 seconds of courage you needed to jump the gap from thought to action. Well if you're anything like me, your Indecisive about the whole thing. So let's see what we can determine in this episode of the Indecisive Podcast.

The Rooster unplugged by Alice In Chains - https://youtu.be/jUahBnEkIw8 - A new day will dawn for me tomorrow. I have been freed from the torment of the nightly sheiks and squawks of the banshee that has shattered my slumber for oh these many nights. I think the sound of concrete blocks being tossed around in a cement mixer would have less strain on the ears than the optical nerve piercing timber of this hell spawned cockerel. Sparkle, may your days on the new farm be filled with green grass, bugs galore, and more hens than your little cock heart can handle.

Ms. Hunter has an amazing menu of creole delights like etouffee, seafood gumbo, and boudin balls as well as turkey legs and fish baskets. If I only had the Nerve from the Wizard of Oz - I've always loved the Wizard of Oz. It is a timeless classic that I could watch anytime because it has so many lessons to share. Like, watch out for poppy fields and flying monkeys. Follow the path to your destination and don't trust men that make a big show because they might be full of just hot air. And, if we stick together, no matter what our difference, we can overcome terrible odds, and sometimes all it takes is a little water. Well, today's episode has nothing to do with any of that, but it does have a close call with our 4th amendment, a chance to will $ 1 million dollars if you live in Ohio (or free beer in Jersy), and an attack on the spirit of the Wild. So grab some popcorn and chillax for a bit with the Indecisive Podcast.

Strange Fruit sang live by Billie Holiday - I was first introduced to Billie Holiday's music at around the turn of the century. A very good friend of mine had suggested I check out a local AM radio station that played 40's, 50's, and 60's music. Doo-wop songs like 1954s "Sh-boom" by the Crew cuts or big band classics like 1939s "In the Mood" by the Glenn Miller Orchestra. I loved every one of these songs for the upbeat feelings I'd feel and catchy lyrics I'd sing. Then I discovered Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, and Billie Holiday. I was never the same. Their voices had power and authenticity I had not experienced. I was now coming to understand that not every song is about a happy time. There are songs about suffering and tragedy as well as good times and celebrations. There were messages being sent that I didn't understand because they described a world that was unknown to me. But still, I only knew about what the songs said in their lyrics. Songs about love, hope for tomorrow, and better days to come. What I didn't know then is the lives that these artists were forced to lead because of racist policies and ignorant, hateful people. The United States vs. Billie Holiday shows just how perverted and twisted the minds of men can become. And when those rotten minds become men of power and influence, it portrays how horrible and cruel they can become to another human being for no other reason than the color of their skin. If you enjoy Billie Holiday's music, any black artist for that matter, you should watch this movie. Billie was not a saint, she was as human as anyone else. She struggled with how to deal with the things she had seen and experienced and what was happening all around her. That did not give the Federal government reason to track her every move and even attempt to plant drugs on her to get her arrested. They did nothing but add to the stress of her life. The beauty of the art is appreciated in another way when you understand from what source it derives. Could Ms. Holiday's music have been different if she had an easier life? The movie has some embellishments but there's evidence of the harassment she endured by the FBI. The way our country has treated people of color is deplorable. It has been ignored for too long. The current climate of awareness of our past is the only way to allow healing to begin and progress to continue. This episode covers a lot of topics, but this movie is at the heart of it as it's been on my mind since I watched it. I hope you enjoy this episode. Let me know what you think.
