After a 4 year absence, Abdul Smooth returns to grace us with a sampling of beats from the subcontinent and beyond.
Mixed live by Abdul Smooth, this richly textured set commences our 2013 series of podcasts!
As regular listeners will already expect, the mix is quite atmospheric – with textured tracks representative of a myriad of musical styles from artists all over the globe.
Originally recorded for Bestival, this 1hr mix comes from the alter-ego of ex-BBC Asian Network DJ Pathaan, spinning a selection of bollywood/funk/disco under his ‘The Guru’ moniker. Its a fun side-step to the usual selection of more serious music we publish and are sure you’ll enjoy it!
From Pathaan, aka The Guru:
“I have had this massive urge to DJ under a different guise called The Guru for a number of years. So when the invitation came from the lovely people at Bestival to create a Bestimix, I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to introduce The Guru to you all! And I have fantasised about dropping this kind of set on the main stage to get the revellers into a ‘party fuelled hedonistic state of mind’ at both Bestival & Camp Bestival before an act, after dark ever since the inaugural years. When you hear this mix you’ll get The Guru! Hope you enjoy!”
This 1 hour mix is a live recording spun by Abdul Smooth surveying some 2011 dubstep productions with classic dub tracks from producers in India and around the world. The mix ends with a mashup of Talvin Singh’s classic Jaan track (featured on his Seminal Anohka: Sounds of the Asian Underground album) – mixing the original with an excellent remix by San Francisco’s Janaka Selekta, 1 half of the duo Gods Robots, also featured in the mix.
This 1 hour guest-mix comes straight from New Delhi, India-based producer/DJ Praketh Sunder – aka buffaPirate and covers a wealth of glitchy grime/dubstep.
Representative of a rock-influenced underground electronic music scene this mix is dark and features some of the most innovative dubstep producers from India – including Nucleya, B.R.E.E.D (DJ Nasha), Piyush Bhatnagar, Sickflip & Mental Martians – be sure to listen with the lights on and sub-woofer cranked!
The first episode of 2011, this mix is just about 1 hour long and features exclusive new material from Delhi 2 Dublin’s own Tarun Nayar as well as Six Degrees recording artist Karsh Kale!
A special podcast featuring a 2 hour mix containing over 100 tracks which was originally broadcast as the last episode of Electro East on the BBC Asian Network, hosted by Nerm. Expect an amazing up-tempo survey mixing key tracks from the show’s 4 years of breaks, drum’n’bass, grime and dubstep.
Back in the studio, Abdul Smooth delivers a live mix featuring a dub influence and comprised of tracks produced at various points in the past decade +. Featuring diverse artists such as New Zealand-based Scalper, the Suns of Arqa and Rachid Taha this is yet another unique episode from http://indianelectronica.com
