  • Ep 50 Talking Turntables and Twitch with DJ Mish!

It must be pretty empowering to be at the turntables with thousands of people vibing to the songs you are playing.  Well, that’s what DJ Mish does for a living.  Mish was building a name for herself in 2019, but then the pandemic hit. She survived by DJing live on Twitch where she built up a loyal group of followers called Squishies.  Now that live sets are back, Mish is playing all over the US, including a set at Coachella this year.  Haley and I had a great time talking with Mish, and we really hope you enjoy listening too. Thanks so much for listening in!

To see where Mish is playing follow her over on Instagram @_DJMish_   and watch her live streams over at Twitch https://www.twitch.tv/djmish  Or you can hear her Coachella live set on SoundCloud

  • Ep 49 Chatting with Two of the Creators and Stars of the Hulu Show Creamerie!

You know we get excited about Asian representation in media here at the InfatuAsian Podcast.  Anytime we see Asian Americans in Movies, books, or on television we get a little hyped.  But, perhaps one of the best examples of Asian representation in media isn’t from America but comes from New Zealand.  Four Kiwi Chinese Women of the production company called Flat3 have been uploading short web series episodes to YouTube for almost 10 years.  , They’re mostly silly, outrageously funny skits depicting life as young Asian women living in Aukland.  But, in 2021 they produced an apocalyptic dark comedy on network television, called Creamerie.  Creamerie went on to win the best television drama award in New Zealand and got picked up by Hulu and is now streaming worldwide on their platform.  We had the immense privilege of chatting with two of the creators who produced and starred in the show, Perlina Lau and JJ Fong. Hope you enjoy listening to our chat it was a really fun time!

Watch Creamerie on Hulu!  Or on SBS Australia or TVNZ On Demand if you’re in that part of the world. You can watch their web series by searching FLAT3 Productions on YouTube.  Follow Perlina @perlinalau or JJ @the.jjfong on Instagram.

  • Ep47 Catching Up With Catherine Your Miss California 2022!

There have been many positives to starting up this little podcast, but by far the best thing about it has been meeting new people and telling their stories.  Back in April Madi and I had a great time chatting with Cat over Zoom, and it was obvious back then that she is one of the nicest most gracious people. Well, fast forward to June 2022, when Catherine was headed to Fresno to represent San Francisco County in the Miss California competition… and well, you can probably guess by now, Catherine won!  So we are doing a little catch-up with our old friend who happens to be Ms. California, this time in person in my classroom!  Hope you enjoy hearing more of Catherine’s story, and as always, thanks for listening!

  • Ep 44 Cecily Wong’s Book Kaleidoscope Takes You Places You Don’t Expect!

We have our final pick for our InfatuAsian Summer Book Club, Kaleidoscope written by Cecily Wong!  Emily and I enjoyed speaking with Cecily about this fantastic read.  It’s so moving and deep. The relationships are so tightly intertwined and complex, with changing perspectives and undetermined outcomes. It's partly a deep dive into familial relationships and part travelogue. Loved the book and loved our chat with Cecily!

  • Ep 43 Failing High School Biology, Video Game Art, Brain Tumors and Carving at 60mph on A Electric Unicycle with Hayden Wu!

Hayden is the first and probably the last guest on the pod that I gave a failing grade to in biology. Despite that, we've kept in touch over the years and it was fun chatting with him for a few hours this summer.  Hayden got recruited to develop games for Rockstar games and worked on Red Dead Redemption for over 5 years. He's since been doing all kinds of other digital art for himself and others.  He got into riding personal electric vehicles a few years ago and got a concussion from a hard fall, an MRI revealed that he had a brain tumor, and life hasn't been the same since. This was a roller coaster of an interview with lots of laughs and some deep reflections too.

You can see more of Hayden's art and videos on his Instagram @haydenthewu or @the_float_pack

Hayden's infatuAsian Jane Ng can be read @thatjaneng on Twitter.

Today we are discussing superfake designer handbags, fussy toddlers, and confronting the model minority myth, when we talk with Kirstin Chen author of Counterfeit!
