E3 Coverage and Wrap Up
The event wrapped this week in Los Angeles after a slew of big announcements – and just in case you missed anything, we have the cream(s) of the video game crop gathered here.
This year was all about progress: From big open-world games breathing fresh air into established franchises to VR everywhere, games, hardware and Star Wars.
Microsoft dropped not one but two new systems. First, the Xbox One Slim, a smaller faster, harder better, plus 4K Ultra HD video support. It’s available in August with prices starting at $299.
Second, the super secret Project Scorpio, aka Xbox Two or 2017 Xbox. The next-gen console, due next year, will also offer 4K support, VR capabilities, and thankfully backwards compatibility with older games. No release date or price.
There’s a really cool looking Spider-Man game to look forward to! Insomniac Games announced an in-development Spider-Man title slated to be exclusively for PlayStation 4.
Lots of VR to snack on. Bethesda announced they’re developing virtual reality HTC Vive experiences for both Fallout 4 AND Doom, and lucky E3 attendees saw demos of what the experience looks and sounds like – it seems like it’s progressing fast. Keep your eyes on VR.
And of course, Legend of Zelda changed all of our (well mostly Michael) lives. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild stood out in a sea of trailers. Coming to the Wii U and Nintendo NX next year.
Despite Microsoft announcing two new platforms, no word from Sony on the PS4 Neo but Sony did announce Resident Evil 7 for PlayStation VR, The Last Guardian, Death Stranding and Days Gone. These all look tasty.
Much more in the video and podcast below on exciting upcoming titles like the new God of War and Horizon: Zero Dawn.
Finally, gamers who favor Star Trek and/or Star Wars fans have a lot to look forward to – Star Wars Battlefront 2 is in progress, plus an original Star Wars title from Visceral Games due in 2018, plus we saw a killer X Wing battle for PlayStation VR title demo’ed. Star Trek is coming to VR as well in Star Trek: Bridge Crew.

About Death Stranding:
Death Stranding is an upcoming open world action video game being developed by Kojima Productions and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 4. It is the first game by game director Hideo Kojima and his company following the 2015 disbandment of Kojima Productions as a subsidiary of Konami and subsequent reformation as an independent studio, and was officially announced at Sony’s E3 2016 conference. The game will be released sometime prior to 2019.
The game features actors Norman Reedus and Mads Mikkelsen, as well as director Guillermo del Toro, who are portrayed in-game via motion capture. The game’s title is a reference to the cetacean stranding phenomenon.
