Why do we need discipline? I'd say everyone reading this knows why but, how many people actually allow it to perform its actual purpose?

Someone recently asked me if due to stressors from my youth led me to having issues expressing myself angrily. The answer is yes, yes, yes!

Charles Bukowski has a paragraph from his book, Factotum, which has become a well known quote. Most people post things like this & then just move on after the likes pile up. I wanted to take a little bit of time to break his words down, from my own perspective.

No matter your age you should be actively seeking out mentors. While they may or may not change as you go through the many phases of your life having them is one of the best decisions you could ever make.

In the middle of this pandemic and the ensuing depression we need to learn how to combat the chaos. How do we, as men, do this in an honorable way? Through perseverance, but what does that mean?

I believe that a man should strive for power. No in the way that may have struck you when you read it but in the way I hope it does going forward. The power to improve yourself, power to think deeper, the power to communicate better. There is a power in reading and I think it can help shape you into a better version of yourself, if you select books that focus on the areas you're striving to improve on.

Men are all raised differently based on many factors however, one of the things that tends to be common across the board is thinking they're too tough to talk about feelings. Sometimes the situation needs a strong, stoic man who is willing to push through the pain. Others times that same strong, stoic man needs to talk about his troubles.

The simply stated definition of the word, duty, is; a moral or legal obligation, a responsibility. 

Simply stated but deeply personal for all of us. If you do not feel a deep sense of duty in your life, I hope you're able to find it because it is both vital and fulfilling.

A few years ago I met Robert Burgin through the sport we both love, rugby league. Since that time I have had the opportunity to get to know him, the man, much more. He is an author, journalist, athlete and traveller. He's also a good example for men who are struggling and are wondering if they're all alone in their thoughts.

When we think about tough times, tough training, etc. we often resist it due to how hard it will be to get there. If we think of what a finished product from a blacksmith looks like though then we can learn to appreciate the hard work  required.
