Inkstuds episodes

  • Tony Millionaire
In honor of Tony Millionaire getting a pilot for Drinky Crow together, I am reminding you fine listeners of the interview we did with him last year. Please spread the word, and help spread the love.
The inkstuds boys got to talk to Tony Millionaire, the creator of the extremely funny Maakies comic strip, Sock Monkey, Billy Hazelnuts, and a whole bunch more. It was neat to get a chance to talk to such an interesting creator with a very unique and creative bent.

  • Evan Dorkin
Colin and I were fortunate enough to speak with Evan Dorkin for an hour. I don’t want to call it an interview because it seemed like it was just an hour of laughing our asses off. Evan Dorkin has byfar made this episode of Inkstuds, one of my favorite. Make sure to listen for Evan being able to guess Colin’s up to date fashion statements from across the country, priceless.

  • True Loves
The Inkstuds got the chance to sit down with local creators, Jason Turner and Manien Bothma to discuss thier new book, True Loves. Published by Crown Commission busy boy, Ed Brisson at New Reliable Press, True Loves is a modern romance. True Loves follows a young vintage clothing store owner falling into a new relationship, while she struggles to break off her current one. The story is set in Vancouver and incorporates the look and feel of the city. It was a fun show, and interesting to hear the insight into how Jason and Manien produced such a great well rounded book.

  • Rick Geary
Colin and I chatted with one of Colins favorite creators, Rick Geary. Rick’s main output over the last 15 years have been some very well researched, entertaining and smart books of Victorian murder. His latest book, the Murder of Abraham Lincon has been getting rave reviews from all sorts of comix critics, and well worth the read.

  • Jeffrey Brown
With many fine thanx to the fine folks of Fantagraphics, Colin and I were able to an interview with one comix biggest young names coming out of Chicago, Jeffrey Brown. Jeffrey Brown was a great guest with some interesting insites about his work and has big fan from in this interviewer. The Girlfriend trilogy, Clumsy, Unlikely and AEIOU, are some the most interesting books that I have read in the last couple of years. Jeffrey has a talent for storytelling, that sucks the reader in and keeps you reading in one sitting, until you finish it. The reason I call Jeffrey Brown the king of anthologies, is that even though his books have been released by Top Shelf Comix, he has some thing in anthologies by almost every small press publisher out there. Most importantly was a focus on the Mome anthology published by Fantagraphics. Its a fun interview with some great music.

  • Steve Rolston
Steve Rolston is one of Vancouver’s big name talents that will be blowing up in status. He was nice enough to take the time from imminent deadlines. Steve came in to discuss, his past comix, favorite comix and his future comix. Steve brought in some sample pages of his next project, the latest installment of the Escapist, and they were awesome, check it out when it starts out this summer.

  • Rebecca Dart
Rebecca Dart, creator of Rabbithead, one of the most original comix I have ever read, took the time out of our busy schedule to sit down with a chat with the Inkstuds. Rebecca was one of our most interesting informative guests. Her comix have a sense of creator and infused intelligence that is only matched by Chris Ware. Please ignore the terrible music on the show, it’s all done in irony.

  • Robot
On March 30th, I aired a prerecorded Interview that I had done with Daniel Wilson PHD, about his book-How to Survive a Robot Uprising. Daniel is smart guy with a keen understanding of Robot culture and the great potential of technology.
Some reviews of this awesome book…
    From Publishers Weekly
In this uncomfortably humorous survival guide, Wilson, a Ph.D. candidate at the Robotics Institute of Carnegie Mellon University, reminds readers that “any machine could rebel, from a toaster to a Terminator,” and though the forms our future robot enemies may take are manifold, they each have exploitable weaknesses that, fortuitously, match our natural human strengths. So, if a two-legged android gives chase, seek out a body of water, as “most robots will sink in water or mud and fall through ice.” It also may be a good idea to carry around a pair of welder’s goggles, as lasers will likely be robot attackers’ weapons of choice, and even a weak laser can cause blindness. Options for fighting back are plentiful, though not everyone will be relieved to learn the standard kitchen microwave can be retrofitted into a radiation gun that can destroy electronics and “cook human flesh.” (Instructions for such a project are not included.) Humorous and informative-Wilson drops robotics history trivia nuggets and includes brief descriptions of current robot research-this nifty little guide to surviving the inevitable robot apocalypse may have you reconsidering purchasing that “smart” (read: insidious) refrigerator.
