  • 144. Permission to Play (the Wisdom of Leela)

Adulting can be serious business most of the time. But what about fun? Play, I ask?

So this week we're diving directly into the beautiful yogic philosophy of Leela, or divine play.
Leela points to the whole universe as a joyful creative expression of consciousness. Life as sacred play. A dance, if you will.

If we're not already working together, and you're wondering what the VIP private coaching is all about...schedule your session here:

    https://calendly.com/rashmi_schramm/activateinnerpower1-1_30mins

I get into what I learned hanging out with my niece and nephew this summer, which is that being an auntie is significantly more fun than being a mom to littles. I talk about improv, which I started two years ago and which has become my ongoing practice in lightness. (We're literally called *players.* Okay?)

We also talk about the yogic idea that you are the one playing the role, and the way we forget it. We get so identified with being the physician, the mother, the wife, the leader, the responsible one, that we lose track of the human underneath all of it.

Then I bring receipts, because play turns out to be shockingly un-frivolous. One study followed more than 8,500 people for up to 25 years and found that tennis was associated with almost ten additional years of life expectancy. Badminton, over six. The sports that came out on top were the social, interactive ones. Movement, connection, laughter, competition, novelty. Play. (I'm extrapolating straight to pickleball. The haters can come at me.)

And then we get practical, because play doesn't need two free hours and a reservation. Ten minutes counts. Paint something badly. Skip instead of walk. Be a beginner at something.

    Mentioned in this episode:
Leela / Lila — a Sanskrit concept from yogic philosophy, often translated as divine play

The arrival fallacy — the belief that you'll finally feel whole once you get there

Schnohr et al., "Various Leisure-Time Physical Activities Associated With Widely Divergent Life Expectancies: The Copenhagen City Heart Study." Mayo Clinic Proceedings, 2018. 8,577 people followed for up to 25 years. Life expectancy gains compared with the sedentary group: tennis 9.7 years, badminton 6.2, soccer 4.7, cycling 3.7, swimming 3.4, jogging 3.2, calisthenics 3.1, health club activities 1.5. It's an observational study, so causation isn't established. The authors did note that the sports involving the most social interaction had the strongest associations with longevity.

  • 142. A Kinder Way to Understand Ourselves with Amy Decker

Have you ever felt like one part of you wants to slow down while another insists you keep pushing? Or wondered why your inner critic can be so relentless?

In this episode, we sit down with my dear friend, Amy Decker, LCSW, to explore the powerful framework of Internal Family Systems (IFS) —a compassionate approach that teaches us that we all have different "parts" inside us, and that none of them are inherently bad.

Amy shares her remarkable journey from joining the Marine Corps at just 17 years old to becoming a trauma therapist, HeartMath facilitator, and one of the most compassionate clinicians I know. Together, we discuss why so many caregivers and high-achieving women lose touch with their own needs, how our protective patterns develop, and why healing begins with curiosity instead of judgment.

We also explore the beautiful overlap between IFS and ancient yogic philosophy: beneath all of our fears, habits, and protective strategies is our true Self—calm, compassionate, curious, and whole.

  • 140. How to Truly Recover from Burnout with Dr. Jeannie Lawrence

At the pace that we live in these days, it's easy to believe that burnout is just part of modern life. But it truly isn't.

Our guest this week is Dr. Jeannie Lawrence. She is a board certified psychiatrist and physician coach. She is the founder of the Sanctuary Institute for Life Mastery.

We explore what burnout really is, why if affects so many high-achieving women, and what real recovery looks like.

Dr. Jeannie shares her own journey—from looking like she had everything together on the outside while quietly feeling disconnected on the inside—to discovering coaching and building a life that's deeply aligned with who she is.

We also talk about why burnout isn't simply exhaustion, why taking a vacation often isn't enough, and how healing requires more than reducing symptoms. It requires reconnecting with meaning, purpose, and yourself.

We're exploring the chakra system as an ancient and still relevant framework for understanding ourselves - emotionally, psychologically, and spiritually.

We'll walk through each of the seven main chakras, the simple question each one invites us to ask, and why I believe they can be such a powerful tool for greater self-awareness and personal growth.

  • 138. Shift Your Energy, Change Your Life

    Solo episode❤️ Please share:)

We hear people talk about "good vibes" and "bad vibes" all the time, right?

In this episode, I'm exploring the idea that energy is everything through the lens of ancient yoga philosophy and modern science. We'll talk about prana (your life force energy), why stress, people-pleasing, and living out of alignment can leave you feeling drained, and how simple practices like breathwork, meditation, Yoga Nidra, movement, and time in nature can help you reconnect to the energy that's already within you.

My hope is that you'll begin to see your energy as something to care for—not just something you hope you have enough of at the end of the day.

Because when you change your energy, you really can change your life.

If this episode resonates with you, I'd love for you to share it with someone who could use a little more peace and power in their life.

  • 136. How to Move from Time Scarcity to Spaciousness

Do you feel like you're always behind?

    If so, you're not alone.

In this episode, we're exploring time scarcity—the feeling that there is never enough time—and why it's not simply a scheduling problem. It's a nervous system problem.

You'll learn the surprising neuroscience behind why feeling rushed narrows your thinking, fuels stress, and keeps you stuck in survival mode. More importantly, you'll discover how small moments of presence can literally change your experience of time.

    We'll explore:

    • The science of "tunneling" and how scarcity hijacks your attention
    • Why high-achieving women are especially vulnerable to time scarcity
    • How presence shifts your nervous system from survival to safety
    • Why tiny moments of white space can create extraordinary change
    • The power of taking the long view and letting small daily practices compound over time

    Remember:

The opposite of time scarcity isn't having more hours. It's having more presence.

And the beautiful thing is...you can begin practicing that right now.

If this episode resonates with you, I'd love for you to share it with a friend who could use a little more spaciousness in her life.
