:Too often we forget that discipline really means to teach, not to punish. A disciple is a student, not a recipient of behavioral consequences. Discipline for discipleship will involve pursuing grace so that no “bitterness … causes trouble”.Like God, parents must ask what physical and environmental needs are behind our children’s behavior, in order to teach and help them grow in every area, including spiritually.

As parents, we sometimes worry that we focus too much on the physical to the detriment of the spiritual. However, we prepare our children’s whole person for success by making sure we are meeting physical and environmental needs, along with the spiritual needs.Like God, parents must ask what physical and environmental needs are behind our children’s behavior, in order to teach and help them grow in every area, including spiritually.

Our greatest model for loving others is the way Jesus loves us (vs. 2), laying down His life for us. When we die to ourselves, we are obeying God and imitating Him.

As parents, we often guilt ourselves about whether we are spending enough time with our children and giving them the right life balance. But as believers, we can be freed to focus on presence over perfection.

Genesis shows us that God parented us rightly from the beginning, but every relationship—including parenting—got harder when sin and shame entered the picture.

The Tower of Babel describes a story of human work being done for human gain. Genesis 11:3–4 says, “They said to each other ‘Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.’ They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar. Then they said, ‘Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves.” We see humans using their gifts and talent to build and create for their own pleasure and gain. We see all the nations of the world turning their backs on God. Why are we going to work? I owe, I want, I need, etc…

Our walk as believers brings a renewal to every room we enter. When we realize that work is frustrating we must stop and have the perspective that work is affected by the fall, and yet Jesus has brought new life.
