  • 9/11 How Recruiting Works with Denver's Matt Brown
Around this time every year, dozens of parents of high school prospects ask IL's Terry Foy some version of the question, "How does recruiting work?"

In an effort to round out that answer, he's interviewing a series of DI men's lacrosse coaches about their process, continuing with Denver coach Matt Brown.

Now in his second fall since taking over for Bill Tierney, Brown relates his experience of getting recruited to Denver, how the program built a roster based on three Cs — Colorado, Canada and California — how he evaluates box players' projection to field lacrosse and wonders what recruiting will be like as the game expands farther internationally.

  • 9/9 How Recruiting Works with Bryant's Brad Ross
Around this time every year, dozens of parents of high school prospects ask IL's Terry Foy some version of the question, "How does recruiting work?"

In an effort to round out that answer, he's interviewing a series of DI men's lacrosse coaches about their process, continuing with Bryant coach Brad Ross.

As one of the youngest coaches to be featured in this podcast series and entering his third season as the Bulldogs' head coach, the conversation examines what Ross learned about recruiting at each stop: as a player at Duke, as an assistant at Brown, Bryant, Ohio State and Navy and how he has aggregated all of that into his approach as the head man in Smithfield.

Christopher Newport coach Mikey Thompson and McDaniel coach TC Dibartolo join to answer a bevy of questions to shed light on the process for families and recruits.

  • 8/30 How Recruiting Works with Penn's Mike Murphy
Around this time every year, dozens of parents of high school prospects ask IL's Terry Foy some version of the question, "How does recruiting work?"

In an effort to round out that answer, he's interviewing a series of DI men's lacrosse coaches about their process, continuing with Penn coach Mike Murphy.

Murphy's conversation is one of the most wide-ranging in the series. With respect to Penn and his personal philosophies, it stretches from the role of the Wharton School of Business to its urban campus to why the Quakers land so many big middies to poaching. With respect to being the father of two (soon to be three, and potentially maybe four) college athletes, he shares how his experiences inform the empathy he feels to recruits and their parents. And as a leader within the men's college coaches' association, he discusses how the trendlines have informed policy.

Check out this last one before Sept. 1.

  • 8/28 How Recruiting Works with Notre Dame's Kevin Corrigan
Around this time every year, dozens of parents of high school prospects ask IL's Terry Foy some version of the question, "How does recruiting work?"

In an effort to round out that answer, he's interviewing a series of DI men's lacrosse coaches about their process, continuing with Notre Dame coach Kevin Corrigan.

One of the longest tenured coaches in Division I, Corrigan has overseen the development of a program from non-scholarship to scholarship, from making a memorable run to the Final Four to swooning afterward, to establishing itself as a title contender, from moving from the GWLL to the Big East to the ACC. He touches on all that and more, while focusing on issues like promising playing time to recruiting his son to what changes when a program wins a championship.

Then, Whipsnakes rookie TJ Malone joins the show (30:02-44:50) to talk about his fit quarterbacking the Maryland offense, what it's like playing with former Terps at the next level, and how the group chat stays engaged during an off week.
