  • Write the Vision and Make it Plain
Today’s guiding Bible verse is Habakkuk 2:2. The part of the verse I hone in on for this episode is “write the vision and make it plain.” As Writers, when God shows us a vision for our writing or our lives, whether it be in dreams, mental images, or symbols from the Bible, we need to write these visions in our journals, so we can follow God’s calling for these visions, even when we don’t know what they mean right away. Join me as I share my own personal discovery of what this phrase means in my writing life.

  • Faith and Healing are Integral Parts of the Writing Process
Faith and Healing are integral parts of the writing process. In today’s episode, my special guest Douglas Weissman shares the story behind his writing process, and how faith and healing have been vital attributes of his call to write.
Douglas Weissman is a Los Angeles native who moved to Simi Valley in 2021. He is a published novelist and travel writer who loves food, new experiences, and hiking. His seven previous books were for young adult and new adult audiences. He has lived in Italy and San Francisco, and traveled the world before returning to Los Angeles with his beautiful wife, anxious dog, and judgmental cat. He can always be swayed by a good cookie or bad ice cream because even bad ice cream is pretty good. By the time you read this, he will probably have another cat.

  • Teaching Children About Jesus Through Storytelling with Esther Bandy
Children are more open to learning about Jesus than adults. This is why My special guest Esther Bandy and I write for children, to teach them about Jesus through the art of storytelling. Be sure to have a notebook and your Bible handy as you listen to this conversation, because there are a lot of good, Holy Spirit filled nuggets that will bless your soul.
When Esther Bandy was five, she heard the gospel in a Good News Club and received the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior. That was the most important day of her life. Since then she’s worked as a nurse, a missionary, a Spanish teacher, and a director with Child Evangelism Fellowship. She’s been published in the anthology Treasures of a Woman’s Heart and in the anthology Triumph from Tragedy. She also writes for the online devotional Faith on Every Corner. Under the Tangerine Tree is her debut novel.
Esther is a widow now, but she’s grateful that her beloved husband is with the Lord and he’s no longer suffering from cancer. She’s also very grateful for the wonderful son they were blessed with.
Under the Tangerine Tree is an inspirational historical middle-grade novel set in 1963.
Twelve-year-old Angie lives with her parents and her five-year-old brother, Joey, in New York City. After Papa is killed, Mama moves with Angie and Joey to Granny’s house on a country lake in Florida. How can Angie cope with missing Papa, moving to Florida, being the new girl at school, and living with her angry teenage cousin at Granny’s house? Will Angie and Joey survive the mysterious danger that lurks in the lake? With all the changes in Angie’s life, will she ever be happy again?

  • The Story Behind the Button Boxes with Temple Kinyon
Button boxes have buttons, and each individual button has a story to share. This was the concept that inspired Temple Kinyon to write her first Middle Grade Magical Realism novel, with historical settings. Listen in as she and I talk about the inspiration behind the book, her freelance writing and how God initially called her to be a Kingdom writer.
Temple Kinyon is a freelance writer currently living in Las Vegas. She spent her first three decades of life appreciating “small-town America,” growing up on an Idaho wheat farm. Her dream of becoming a published author came to fruition when she left her career of event planning jumped in as a contributing writer for BLVDS LV Magazine, where she also served as an assistant editor. She self-published her first book, The Button Boxes, in 2019, and is currently co-authoring with the University of Idaho president The University President’s Crisis Handbook: How a non-traditional president at the University of Idaho took the institution from near insolvency, a global pandemic, and an internationally followed capital crime to prosperity and sustainable success. She’s almost finished co-authoring her dad’s memoir about his life as an Idaho farmer. Her fiction and non-fiction contributions have appeared in Home & Harvest Magazine and Idaho Grain Magazine.

  • Draw Closer to God Through Poetry with Lauren Medina
Today, as part of my Walking with God as a writer series, my special guest Lauren Medina talks about how poetry helped her express her feelings and draw closer to God. Listen as we share our thoughts about poetry, our faith walk, and being inspired by the world around us.
Lauren Medina is an inspirational poet, Christian speaker, educator, and nature enthusiast. The Birds Persist to Sing is her debut poetry collection. Lauren uses her creative work to open up the door to conversations about faith, hope and healing.
Lauren’s debut poetry collection is entitled The Birds Persist to Sing: Poems on Pain, Heartbreak, Faith, and Healing
Why isn't God answering my prayers?
How can I believe that He is trustworthy after all I've been through?
    Will things ever get better?
If you've ever grappled with these questions, you are not alone. The Birds Persist to Sing is a collection of poems that capture some of the emotions we face as we struggle through suffering in our lives and wonder where God is in the midst of it.
In the spirit of the psalms, the poems honestly engage the themes of lament and doubt, while ultimately arriving at a place of deeper hope and trust in the goodness of God's love.

  • Rio Timberlane Discusses his Writing Process through Life Experiences and familial relationships
In today’s episode, my special guest, Rio Timberlane and I talked about his writing process, and how he stares at a blank page until he gets into his creative zone. We also discussed how life experiences and the relationships we have with our biological families and the connections we make through our writing groups, clubs and other community building efforts shape the way we write.
Rio Timberlane is a Relationship Scientist and Author helping others recognize how their subconscious mind influences their day to day life often causing fear, anxiety and worry.
For two decades he has worked with thousands of people helping them reprogram their mindset and rebuild their Belief-Systems to create healthy relationships.
This transformational work is now available to the masses in his book The Joy of Lucid Love.  It offers a toolset for the reader’s own transformative Paradigm-Shifting adventure into Healthy Human Relatedness. In this book he examines the line between healthy and unhealthy; the Line between Lanes on the Highway of Life, in an easy to understand format.
Timberlane’s passion for this work grew out of deep challenges in his own life and his desire to shift the way he related to others. When his internal system of checks and balances finally fell apart, he had to face the fact that his marriage had failed and he was addicted to sex, anger, and control.
His whole system of beliefs had gotten twisted up in conflicts between how he grew up, military perspectives, religious teachings and modern philosophies. For Timberlane, this failure was a parallel to nearly flunking High School; at forty years old he had flunked Life. Realizing that controlling himself, to be acceptable to others, had caused his addictive behaviors, he resolved to whitewash his belief system and start all over.
His life tragedy set him on course to discover how Paradigm-Shifts happen, and how to intentionally cause them. After cleaning up his own brief system, no longer an addict, now able to remain healthy in virtually all relationship circumstances, free of stress, worry, anxiety, and a host of other emotional ailments, Timberlane sought to develop universal transformative tools others can use in their lives regardless of their background.
After twenty years of research and development Timberlane has begun sharing his treasure trove of truths with the world. He now focuses on teaching this new Science and Art along with providing one on one sessions for Clients who seek to make major life transformative changes to their Belief Systems.
He is now traveling the world observing various cultures in search of more truths.
