Sharon Riff Ackerman passed away 1/1/2020 from Parkinson's Disease and her son, George, has been on a mission ever since to honor his mother through the movement his family created, Together For Sharon.

Their mission is to raise awareness of Parkinson's Disease in hopes of a cure. George is making headway by connecting with caregivers, organizations, and Government officials to elevate the urgency, to spare other families from losing a loved one to PD.

Several years ago I began doing an end-of-year reflection and have learned it has brought tremendous value in several areas of my life. In this episode, I outline my process. Why do this?

First, you will find that you got more done than you realized. Often we are so caught up in the day-by-day, and lose sight of how much we've accomplished over time. I took 2 trips to CA to see my Dad and had 2 mini trips with my Mom to KC. That's a lot! We need to pause and celebrate, not just keep plowing forward towards our goals.

Second, you will discover what felt good over the last year and want more of in the coming year. What lights you up? You'll also figure out what didn't work for you and need to cut out.

Third, you will be living an intentional life and not feel like life is just happening TO you. Reflecting on the last year will help you set your intentions for the coming year. What do you want more of? How can you be sure to support yourself? Did you make it to the doctor this year or do you need to get that colonoscopy scheduled?

We're all in this together!

I'm so grateful to have had this year with you, thank you for sharing time and space with me, it's truly a privilege to walk this journey with you.

Their mission is to provide human-voiced information choices to individuals who have disabilities that prevent them from reading.

RTBN programming includes: readings from 17 Nebraska regional newspapers, including the Grand Island Independent and Scottsbluff Star Herald as well as live daily readings of the Omaha World Herald and Lincoln Journal Star; weekly regional grocery and department store ads; current information from over 70 magazines; and more.  We recently added programming including: Mind Your Business, featuring Midlands Business Journal and Strictly Business; Nebraska Virtual Newsstand highlighting online news sources like NOISE, Flatwater Free Press, Nebraska Examiner, and Nebraska Sunrise; and Southeast Nebraska Newspapers and Sioux City Journal to our newspaper readings. 

Additionally, The Listening Link program assists blind, visually impaired, and learning disabled students in eliminating educational barriers they face by working with area schools and colleges, providing human-voiced recordings of textbooks and other course material required for degree completion and academic success. 

Volunteers provide over 2,000 hours of recorded textbooks and other educational materials that are not already available commercially or through such sources as the Library of Congress or Recordings for the Blind and Dyslexic.

Michael McGregor has been a Physical Therapist for 22 years and works with people to help them identify risk factors that can contribute to a fall and potential injury. His goal is to keep people at home and independent for as long as possible!

He has experience working with patients who have complex health profiles and works with people who needs a higher level of care.  Chronic conditions such as vision and hearing loss, arthritis, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease are associated with an increased risk of falls and require a specialized approach.  

Working with Michael, people are able to regain strength, flexibility, and mobility, thus enhancing their ability to perform tasks such as getting up from a chair, climbing stairs, and walking independently.

Michael shares specific warning signs it may be time to have some strength training and strategies to prevent a fall so your family member can avoid injury.
