Welcome back to Intellicast! Brian Lamar and Producer Brian are joined by COO, Beth Teehan to give an overview of their experience at the UGA MMR Future of Insights Summit Conference last week.
They discuss some of the aspects of this program and conference that make them so special including the strong network of alumni and the ability to watch graduates as they progress in their market research careers.
Brian and Beth give an overview of some of the presentations at the conference and the unique topics that speakers touched on as well as a panel discussion from leaders in the industry including Mary Drumond, Melanie Courtright, Dan Foreman, and Gregg Archibald.
After that, Brian discusses his presentation on the commoditization of sample. Brian Lamar is an MMR graduate and was able to speak at his alma mater along with several of his former classmates. His presentation walks through the history of sample and the differences between panels with examples from our research-on-research. He also shares his experience of bringing his dog, Bonnie the Bulldog, to the conference. Fun fact: UGA’s mascot is a bulldog!
Anyone in market research should attend this conference. It’s a unique conference in the industry and has a real “kumbaya” feel to it, as Beth would say.

Welcome back to Intellicast! Brian Lamar and Producer Brian have another news-filled episode for you (although it’s filled with plenty of other topics too, trust us!)
The guys take the first segment to fill listeners in on some current events including recent and future travels.
Kicking off the rest of the episode, the guys give a preview of the Future of Insights Summit later this week. Brian Lamar will be speaking on the commoditization of sample.

In the second and thirds news stories, they discuss DISQO’s debut of a new product called “Outcome Lift” and IRI and NPD’s complete merger.
In their final and possibly most interesting industry update, the guys take a closer look at concerns raised by the Senate Appropriations Committee regarding the US Census’ plan to create a probability-based panel for tracking public opinion, claiming it lacks transparency. Brian and Brian give a shoutout to Howard Feinberg, the market research industry’s lobbyist advocating against this. You can learn more about the proposed Ask US Panel Project here.
Beyond market research news, this episode includes Harry Potter-esque basketball courts, conferences as vacation destinations, and how fate can ruin an anniversary trip.

Welcome back to Intellicast! On today’s episode, Brian Lamar and Producer Brian dig into the latest news from around the market research industry.
The start of the episode is a bit more personal than normal as Producer Brian talks about how his son (Blake) broke his wrist over the weekend by falling off the monkey bars. He tells how Monday was a bit of a whirlwind finding out that his wrist was broken and getting it casted, leading to some serious storms that hit the Cincinnati area that evening.
Brian Lamar then gives a full recap of the Scurry that he, Producer Brian and 2 others from EMI participated in a couple of weeks back. They reflect on the types of activities they had to do, their competitive spirit for it, the results, and the team building that took place.
The guys then turn to some market research news.
First, the guys discuss the news that Dynata is acquiring Branded Research. Brian gives his thoughts on the acquisition and how he sees it fitting into the overall Dynata ecosystem.
Next, the guys talk about the new funding GroupSolver got to expand its platform and go-to-market strategy. They also talk about the new Human Experience Partner Program launched by Forsta.
Then, they talk about the news from Ipsos about their 4-year growth plan. They talk about how the plan tied back to the conversation they had with Steve Schlesinger a couple of weeks ago around their acquisition strategy.
In the final story, the guys discuss the news that a long-awaited (and much hoped for) national data privacy bill appears to be on the fast track. They talk about what it can entail, and what it can mean for the market research industry. Also, during this discussion, Producer Brian’s son makes an appearance on the video stream.
Thanks for listening!

Welcome back to Intellicast! On today’s episode we are joined by a couple of powerhouses in the market research industry; Steve Schlesinger and Ted Pulsifer of the Schlesinger Group. Steve and Ted join the guys to clear up some of the questions the guys have had about their acquisition strategy and their goals.
The interview kicks off with Ted giving a bit of detail on how life has changed since he was last on, specifically around joining the Schlesinger Group family and what it has meant to him and the former MarketCube business. Ted talks about how one of the benefits is how he can really drill in on specific items rather than having to wear multiple hats.
We then turn it to Steve. Before we jump into the talk of acquisition strategy, Brian and Steve talk about Steve’s recent experience at SampleCon in Los Angeles. Steve gives us his opinion as a first-time attendee, and as someone who has traditionally spent most of his career in qualitative research.
Next, Steve gives some perspective on the strategy he uses when looking for and acquiring companies to add to the Schlesinger family. And family is the term Steve uses, which Brian Lamar and Producer Brian found super interesting. Steve details what he looks for in a company, some of the inner workings of how a deal may come together, and also how they manage company culture integration.
This leads to the guys discussing what kind of opportunities Steve looks for in companies that may be of interest to him, and who does the first contact of sort to start a deal path underway. It is really interesting to hear how this gets started.
In the last part of the interview, we change gears and get serious on a topic that is of interest to everyone: cereal. Steve, Ted, Brian Lamar, and Producer Brian talk about their favorite cereals. Steve gets into some deep details about how he mixes cereals and the kinds of cereal you can find in his kitchen.
This is a great episode with 2 awesome guests!

Welcome back to Intellicast! Brian Lamar and Producer Brian are both super excited about this episode. Joining us today is Tim Cornelius, Director of Audience Operations at QuestionPro and the CEO at P3 Technology. Also joining is EMI’s own Angelica Jump, who is not only a Research Manager, but lead’s our Diversity and Inclusion committee.
Tim joins us today to discuss inclusivity and accessibility of market research, particularly for people with disabilities. (If you attended IIeX this year, this should sound familiar, Tim presented on this topic there.)
The episode kicks off with Tim discussing his background in market research, which naturally leads to how he became so passionate about making research more inclusive for people with disabilities, and how it led him to found P3 Technology. Tim and Brian get into a bit more detail about P3 and what they bring not only to market research but to the business world at large.
When Tim talks about how he became passionate about this topic, he tells us a great story about when he has his “Ah-Ha” moment that probably every researcher can relate to. He talks about finding the perfect respondent based on criteria, but she was disqualified. Tim came to find out that she was deaf and was getting disqualified because she was failing a quality check question based on a video that had no closed captioning by default and no way for her to skip or go back in the survey.
Tim then gets into why it is important for businesses and researchers to make their studies inclusive and accessible to everyone. Knowing that some of the most important decisions a business makes are based financially, he talks about the buying power people with disabilities represent, and the number of people in the US that may have a disability, whether they are ones you can see or not.
The episode then takes a bit of a personal turn as Tim discusses his own experiences and how it ties back to his passion around accessibility. Producer Brian then talks about his color blindness (that’s right the marketing guy is color blind).
In that last portion of the podcast, Tim, Angelica, and the guys discuss what researchers can start doing to make their surveys more inclusive, as well as some best practices for not only surveys but for their business in general.
This is an eye-opening episode you don’t want to miss!
Thanks for listening.

Welcome back to Intellicast! On today’s episode, Brian Lamar and Producer Brian are back with special guest Jill Kushner Bishop, the CEO of Multilingual Connections.
Kicking off the episode, Brian and Producer Brian talk about some upcoming events in the market research community, including SampleCon, the UGA MMR conference, as well as the upcoming Cincinnati Scurry they are both participating in to benefit mental health.
Then we jump right into the interview with Jill.
It started off with Jill discussing her background as a linguistic anthropologist, and how she ended up in market research instead of being a high school Spanish teacher. Jill then gets into how she started Multilingual Connections, and how being a language consultant for Chipotle after 9/11 led her to start her own company. Jill also talks about the path and the evolution the company has taken over the years.
Next, Brian and Jill discuss how language plays into market research, starting from a US perspective, then to a global perspective. The discussion also hits on why native language is so important in research.
After that, Jill talks about some of the trends she is seeing within market research and language.
In the second part of our interview, we have Jill answer the four P’s. Jill turns one P around on us and lets us know that instead of a hidden talent in the kitchen, she admits she is not a good cook. She also lets us know that she started fostering puppies during the pandemic, her favorite indulgence, as well as what she likes to do in her downtime.
This is a super interesting interview that you don’t want to miss!

Welcome back to Intellicast! On today’s episode, we recap all three spring conferences that happened back to back to back in April. To help provide the recap on the conferences, Brian Lamar is joined by Andrew DeCilles and Tony Brown. (Associate Producer Emma also makes an appearance as Producer Brian was at graduation)
The episode kicks off with Tony and Andrew briefly talking about the recent reorganization of the sales team that happened. As part of this, they both shared their new sales team names.
Then Brian Lamar and the guys jump right into the conference recap. Brian kicks it off with a quick recap of the Insights Association Annual Conference that was in Philadelphia.
Andrew is next with a recap of the goings-on from Quirks Chicago. He talks about the energy that he felt, some of the items he noticed, the quality of the content, and the food.
Tony and Brian then tag team the recap for IIeX that was in Austin. They both comment on how they noticed people seemed excited to be there in person, as well as the diversity of the crowd. They both mentioned how the crowd seems to have changed over the last 5+ years and that they both liked it.
In the second half of the episode, the guys discuss some of the trends they noticed at individual conferences or ones that seemed to span across multiple. These included diversity, navigating COVID, growth of innovation and funding in our industry, data quality, and much more!
If you missed any of the conferences in April, you don’t want to miss this episode!
