Interesting ideas with Stan Hustad

Well the purpose of this little program is to help you better understand what's going on in Life in business right now. As one famous business consultant always asked, "What's up Doc"

The business media world is changing and it is true that it's hard to buy a real radio anymore just look it up. And many people are not buying books anymore or reading books anymore. That's just true!

And those people who often try to take in a movie every week seldom do that anymore and the theater business is struggling in many parts of the country.

And have you noticed as I remember that in the mall of America there were three big music record and CD shops... How many are there today?  Someone said with an ironic smile that the only record shops today are the antique and vintage shops that are selling old vinyl.

Well I encourage you to take 15 minutes to listen to what I think is a rather entertaining expos,e but a way for you to understand what truly is up and what is going on and what you can do about it to get ready for a new reality, and use this summer time to plan for a better life for those you love and for those who care for come 24.

 Many years ago when I was training to be in radio my wise old mentor said to me, "Mr. Hustad if you're fortunate enough to make it in radio you will never be allowed to celebrate a holiday ever again."  And in so many ways that was true. Maybe it still is because I felt led to fire up the microphone and tell you a story about a film that I saw yesterday which touched me deeply,

I think it's a film you should see even though I had never even seen it or heard of it before yesterday when I stumbled across it on Netflix.  And I got lots of emails from people trying to sell me stuff on the holiday, and I didn't paericularly care for that and I'm not gonna try and sell you anything here, at least notvery much, but I would love to tell you a story about how an old man is becoming more and more grateful that he is alive today,

 Well those are some of the thoughts and radio ramblings that I'm having with very many mixed feelings on this Memorial Day weekend in the United States... There are so many stories and memories associated with this holiday, and in many ways what could and should be a holy day.

And I remember the mentor who told me that there's something wrong with everything and nothing works all the time and that is led to the Hustad formula of the three "C's"  ... Cracks, Crap, Creativity

And finally since you're fortunate enough to be alive why don't you take the challenge to be full of it... Indeed some wild and reckless radio ramblings from Stan over this weekend.

 Well that's what this program is all about and I throw in some other stuff that I think will make you laugh maybe make you smile, and maybe just tick you off a bit but that's OK.  And as I recounted the stories from the past and from the present it finally hit me.  

There's a good chance when the Jesus entrepreneur started his enterprise he had to go about and choose people who we thought would be helpful and useful and powerful enough and strong enough to build a whole new world franchise.  

And of course he chose some rather interesting characters to say the least.

And could be that one of his best choices was a woman.  I think that may be sold and that's why I'm trying to find that kind of woman to lead a new venture that I believe will be fruitful and may be profitable and it's just the kind of thing that truly is a man's job but only a woman can do it.

So if you're smart you'll take 18 minutes to listen to my story.

 What did you learn over the weekend that will be new and useful to you.  Since I've been involved in radio and teaching and in business performance coaching for many many years I've just gotten into the habit of always looking for new ideas.  And this weekend I heard some things that might be useful to you too.

First of all let me challenge you with another AI robot thought for your career and future plan.  What skill do you have that a robot cannot do.  And now the challenge is that the smarter you are in the more you are involved in thinking and messaging and information there's a very good chance that a robot might be able to do it better than you.  

On the other hand if you're a world-class plumber there's probably not a robot around thqt can do what you can do and do it nearly as well as you can do it.  

And we need plumbers far more than we ever need philosophers.

And then I'm reminded of something yhat always hits all of us in the life of sales and marketing and making a living.  

That new customer, client, prospect you are seeking probably does not care at all about you and the offer you have and the deal that you're dealing.  So how are you going to deal with that. Well I think I can begin to help you because that's what I do and I do it pretty well.

 Here we go let's lighten up after a hard week and thank goodness it's Friday.  I once made people change their names for an exercise in a leadership workshop.  Let me tell you the story about that.

And let me ask you, how did you get your name and do you like your name?  How and why did you name your children and do they like their name?  By the way have you ever thought about changing your name and if you did what would you change it to? 

You see naming is very important and often today it is defining and you must be in the business of protecting your name and your reputation...  

Indeed there's more to when you think about this name game and I think will entertain you and perhaps actually help you get ready for the rest of your life in someway small way!

Because that's what we do and I think we do it pretty well.

By the way this is episode 300 in interesting ideas maybe you should go back and listen to some of them again sometime.

I don't like being lied to. But from time to time even though I don't like lying I do a little bit of lying.  And probably so do you. But indeed some lies are really bad and we all were lied to really bad and a lot of people were hurt by the lies.

Those are really bad people. So let me talk about that briefly today and then suggest some ways that you can start to be unique and creative in the world that is truly messed up and full of liars.

And that does not have to be you and no need for you to be so because the truth about you is better than any of the lies about you.  This is 18 minutes that you need to hear today on Wednesday. So please make time to listen to it and share it with others.

 During the weekend we took time to watch the latest Tom Hanks film called OTTO.  Of course Hanks is a great actor and he chooses only good shows to be in.  This was a touching film a bit of a tearjerker and for the most part I would recommend it.

However today Tom Hanks made the news by saying that AI is getting so good that he can make movies after he is dead.  You know what, he's probably right. And with a little help I can even be making radio programs after I'm dead.  

So let me tell you the story of how that can be and why you need to have lots of practice coming up with interesting ideas because doing that every day may be the only way that you'll be able to keep the robots away.  There will be a lot of new jobs and there will be the end of a lot of traditional work that many people are doing these days.

So this program could be a bit of preparation for saving your job and saving your career by helping make sure that you are one incredibly interesting and unique individual.  There is no one quite like you and they can't make a robot as good as you.

All of this good stuff in under 20 minutes on a Monday evening.

And best and blessings because you and I will need it.

Part of my problem in life is I am quite old-fashioned and old school and as a result I am often way in the past and out of touch with what is going on now.

But I have another problem is that I often have many ideas and things that I put together and create that are too far out there and there's no interest in it yet. My ideas and I am out there in the future but nobody else is out there with me.

And a number of years ago I got in trouble because I suggested to some significant people in some organizations that they might wanna go a little bit easy on this Mother's Day and this Father's Day celebrations, and marketing and selling stuff.  

I was roundly criticized for such an idea and people could not really believe it.  And when I explained sometimes they got it but mostly not,

But now the idea is here and of course we get all kinds of Internet announcements from companies asking us if we want to opt out of any ads or commercials or promotions about Mother's Day celebrations and products.

Well I have some thoughts on that that I think could be helpful and useful based on my long life of experience with such things and I think you'll enjoy the stories a tail and no matter what you will be respected and it might bring a smile or a tear or perhaps just the comfort of knowing that you're not alone and that life is what it is.

So whatever blessings on you this weekend.

 You should do what I'm doing right now, using my voice to tell a good story, to challenge people including me to be more humane and thoughtful and brave and bold; and sometimes funny and make mistakes and be very human.

And even if you never record that speech or share it with others it is vital to your personal, professional and often emotional and spiritual development.  This is especially true if you are like our family and many others who have children and grandchildren who have special needs for their social and academic success.

So may I share a story with you of a brave bold, and she finally admits that she just about was too late, in speaking up and having a strong voice for her child.

This is a story we all need to here so please take the 20 minutes for me to tell it to you and perhaps share some challenges with you.
