I never liked the word “need” in relationships.
In fact, I’ve often taught that “neediness is unattractive.”
However, I’ve come to believe a little differently.
It’s true that for our internal needs, such as feeling good enough, we can’t rely on our wife. We need to find other resources for that.
Because if we do rely on our wife for these internal needs, we wear her out and never feel fulfilled.
However, we also have relationship needs.
We have needs from our wife. We need her to do certain things so that we can trust her, feel connected, and have intimacy.
And it is entirely appropriate to ask for those needs from her.
