In this episode, Roshni (@betigrewup) (She/They) shares what it means to be a self-worth coach and drops some golden nuggets of truth about our core limiting belief that we are not enough. They talk about how specifically Black, Indigenous and other people of color and LGBTQ+ folks are constantly told by society how we are inherently lacking because of our identities and bodies, and it is so important for us and EVERYONE to really work on our self-worth. Roshni goes into detail about how they use tarot as a tool to assist them in finding which particular limiting beliefs or recurring thought patterns or challenges their clients are living with in order to coach them as if they’ve had multiple previous sessions on their first time meeting. March 18, 2021 Non-linear Healing, Identity, and Spiritual Activism with Gray Matters
In this episode, we talk to Rikki and Sharmeen from Gray Matters (@graymatterstheblog) about our nonlinear processes of healing, identity formation, and acting in allyship. In our white supremacist, colonial, capitalist society, we are often pushed to find the quick fix to our struggles and be results-oriented, but healing and self-care do not have finish lines. We also talk about how this results-oriented mentality has transferred into dominant notions of what activism means, and the surge in what Gray Matters calls “activism for clout” (i.e. posting Black squares and selling/buying rainbow flags) which is performative and not actually helping those it claims to help. We also get into what spiritual activism is and how it fundamentally juxtaposes “activism for clout” by starting with cultivating the inner world and internalized systems of oppression.

March 11, 2021 Reimagining Education with Creativity, Mindfulness, and Social-Emotional Learning with Cait Goss
In this episode we talk to Cait (She/They) (@formyfellowdaydreamers) about their work in the school system and how the inequities pushed them to reimagine an alternative education. Cait shares their current projects, including mindfulness and creativity-based curriculum as well as a new Children’s book about Monica the rat who meets some insect friends. We also discuss what social and emotional learning is and how it relates to our art-making processes and to mindfulness practices (which can be the same thing!). Cait also shares their dream of an education system where we prioritize play and imagination for kindergarteners!

Raechel is the author of the memoir Rust Belt Femme (Belt Publishing, 2020), and the editor of The Prison Arcana Tarot Zine, written by her incarcerated pen pal, CL Young. She discusses her inspiration to make the revolution irresistible. Raechel shares the story of starting to work with CL Young and shares more about the creation and production of The Prison Arcana Tarot Zine. We also discuss a little bit about our journeys with the misconception around “the secular left,” and how spirituality has deepened our capacity to continue our liberation work.

In this episode, we discuss how we are learning to spend money on the things that bring us pleasure by releasing the guilt and shame that have prevented us from finding genuine joy in material pleasures in the past. We are investing in ourselves and our futures while trusting the universe will have our back and provide the resources necessary for our joy.

I think the way that society sets us up it's kind of like we don't get to make our own choices about how we spend our money because we're so busy trying to avoid shame. (8:29)

I guess, I want to talk also to the audience who's like okay that sounds good, but like I don't have money to spend on the things that bring me joy like cuz I remember being there. (10:41)

How did you go from that mindset [of I can’t run out of money because I have no support] to like I’m okay with spending money on starting a business, even though I don't know exactly how much it's going to cost or when I’m going to be getting this money back and I still can't depend on my parents (that's still not safe)? (16:27)

At this point, I guess, I just really feel like if this is something i'm supposed to be doing, then the resources will come. (22:11)

Lali “I think one of my biggest goals for 2021 is to move out and get our own place” (3:51)

Samara: “So this feels crazy and for a long time, I was like not letting myself want this, but I really want to have a six figure year in my business.” (4:44)

Lali: “Another goal I have is just feeling my feelings... Usually my go-to is to smoke weed and I'm realizing that has been helpful in the past, but I don't think it's a solution.” (5:18)

Samara: “Gradually, I came back around to like setting a goal in a way that felt safe and supportive and exciting rather than putting up expectations for myself, and if I don't meet them, that means something bad about me.” (16:01)

Samara: “At this point, I would say, I am in the process of figuring out which goals are authentic to me because, for me, having a goal so that I can tell people I've achieved the goal, is not it.” (19:23)

1. Lali: “I'm wondering if you would be able to tell us about what caused you to transition from being a professor to being this multifaceted creatrix.” (6:44)

2. Emily: “Yeah, that's why when you're playing when you're making your goals when you're designing your life when you're choosing what you create in the world, you have to take out the security factor because that's what she's worried about. She's saying I can't make art because I'm telling myself that I need security and I don't believe that making art can give me that, you know, like, and so I'm stuck in the like time for money kind of mentality.” (29:21)

3. Emily: “There’s the philanthropic tendency to want to share it. I want everyone to know this! But so that this is sustainable for me, so that I can keep doing this, so that I can pay back the tradition that a lot of my teachings come from, I have to ask for an exchange in order to do that.” (58:14)

4. Emily: “You have to go through a process of learning what your voice feels like and sounds like to you, testing your voice in the world, letting the messages come to you, taking action on them, seeing which work, which don’t work, figuring that voice out from the voice of your anxiety…” (64:33)

5. Emily: “I noticed that I would achieve my goals and there wasn’t even a pause. There was literally just like a hunger for the next goal. (68:50) ...And then I was like, oh my god, I feel so good all the time. Does it matter if I get the goal?” (69:59)

1. Lex: “Folk magic is this intertwining of the magic of an individual with the magic of the land on which they live, and the magic of their sort of context, right, like their ancestors both literal blood ancestors and also ancestors of affinity and identity.” (05:16)

2. Lex: “From my perspective, the place where the physical realm and our ability to interact with the non-physical realm intersect is like where we should be working. Yeah, where we are working within that realm, where we have agency, where we can choose, like, that's how we take action, make change, and make magic as physical beings.” (12:49)

3. Lex: “As I have thought more about my gender, I don't really personally understand myself to have one, and so what I do with the [Tarot] court cards is I look at them as their elemental aspects. (23:16)

4. Lex: “Something that's like given me a lot of trouble in tarot in general is the hierarchy and until this summer I was still calling the major arcana the major arcana and the minor arcana the minor arcana, even though I hated it.” (28:54)

5. Lex: “I was thinking about how Saturn is like these external like non binary transgender, gender fluid right these categories that we use to present ourselves to the external world, and then Jupiter as this like sort of expansive joyful, but not so easily described bubble way of like understanding ourselves. And so, like, them coming together in Aquarius as being like how we interface the self to the collective.” (34:40)
